just bought me the black lion audio sparrow adc and the microclock mk2 to pair with my digi003 and my avalon 737 i kid u not my sound is unreal just doing a mic check blows me away these dudes got skills although the interfaces aint as pretty as other name brands these items go toe to toe with protools hd for sure... i heard the pre is bananas

I just had a question, so if you have a firewire interface, just adding the microclock mk2 and the ADC converters can bring in a noticeable change as good as the signature mod?

It shouldn't be too difficult to make a 002 sound better. They're horrible, veiled sounding converters and the mic pres are just about the thinnest I've ever experienced.

Didn't know anyone did this sort of mod. I may look into it.

The HD software and engine is superior. The interfaces all sound much the same (192s, lynx's, SSLs, RMEs, impossible to differentiate), so it's down to the mic pre's.

So you're saying the slightly upgraded parts in a budget digi interface are superior to any mic pre on the planet, and somehow eclipse the dedicated A-Ds and D-As of this world, which until this point all sound the same?

I'm sure they're good, but don't buy into the bullshit.

@Malc180s I know this is an old post, but I just want to correct something. The mic, preamps, and ADC (in that order of impotence mind you), determine the sound going into your DAW. The DAW really has little to do with it, though the DSP that the HD hardware uses can make for some superior audio quality but that is debatable. BLA is bringing the hardware up to the level of the HD system to close the gap, which isn't hard to do as the DAC that Avid uses was always known to be it's weak point.

believe it or not guys or gals. I just got my Digi 002 back from Black Lion. A few days ago. I ordered the highest available services. "Signature Series" Protools HD can NOT compete with the Signature series. PERIOD. I've been an engineer most of my life. And I've used HD for a very long time and I'm still a fan of Digidesign's sound. But it cannot compare to Black Lion's Signature module. Neither can Apogee. Apogee is close to the sound. But Again.... Signature is much more BIGGER.

The cost guys! Its dirt cheap! Go to the web site and you'll hear by the samples that the difference this mod makes is amazing. I recorded and mixed on a 002 for years and this would have sorted so many problems I had in so many applications.

I now use a HD rig but I'm gonna get my old 002 modded by these guys.
