Since when is music only about composition? Why does music have to be organized and be pigeonholed and fit into what is considered "normal?" You act as if music theory came first, then music. Music is something that can be interpreted in any way or form. There are no set rules. It can be as much of a physical thing as much as it is a listening experience. Noise isn't really something that can be experienced through watching a video either...
Also, are you saying that noise and experimentation isn't music? Have you heard of Otomo Yoshihide? Keiji Haino? John Zorn? Fred Frith? These are all highly talented musicians who know their instrument, yet CHOOSE to dabble in experimental music. Making noise isn't just fucking around and not knowing how to play. To know how to make noise you need to know how to play an instrument, as to know how to step away from the traditional sense of playing, if that makes sense.
"some pretension, some bullshit and some rhetoric" isn't that all that you've asked for so far; you aren't listening to the emotional qualities of this music at all and yet you continue to stay here asking for an answer and trolling this thread, so the only thing that anyone here can assume is that you want pretension and rhetoric so that you can feel safe and in your comfort zone. I love Stravinsky and I love classical music but there's places they can't reach.
Composition is fine and dandy but it's not the be all end all of the musical world. There is high culture and low culture but both are significant to the world around us and truly I believe the marriage of high and low culture is the most beautiful of all.
For instance, who cares what type of classical categorization this music fits into, conchettas' observation that it is process music utilizing free improvisation microtonality is fair description of what this music is (all three words of said description are in one way or another highfalutin musical traditions), but that doesn't matter and obviously is just a convoluted label regardless. This is creativity, really, that's all you need to know about it. Listen some of these bands solo recordings.
If you actually 'understand' this why don't you give me a musical analysis? What's your favourite harmonic progression here? What contrapuntal techniques make this piece unique?
my favorite harmonic progression was where these artists decided this was a good idea to make a huge noise collaboration with friends and actually left their bedrooms to do something fun with other human beings.
The difference between what I do with my friends and what you do with your friends is that I don't dishonestly claim it to be of as great a musical signifigance as Stravinsky. You have delusions of grandeur.
personally i think stravinsky sucks, i think all classical music is for morons trying to not be morons. but what does it matter what I think? it doesn't...so this delusion of grandeur..or at least the feeling you have that we think this is just as insignicant to me as my opinion of stravinsky and classical music to you. if you don't like it leave it alone, we'd preffer you not be mixed in with our culture anyway.
LAWL . . . tool . . . I know plenty about your bullshit classical music but that doesn't make me stuck up about noise either . . . in fact I'm a big fan of classical music that uses noise . . . er you just don't know what the fuck you're talking about is all revoltz7 . . . get out of here, don't talk about things you know nothing about . . . you can have your opinion but don't spread one that is misinformed
I'm sorry, but can you be more ignorant? I see in your profile you have favorited various classical composers, so I'm sure you're aware of Stravinsky. The first time he played Rite of Spring there was a riot because of how much people loathed it. Today Rite of Spring is not controversial at all. It was simply ahead of it's time and was not understood. Noise is ahead of it's time and it is misunderstood. People like you don't understand it, and to be honest, I could give less of a shit
So anything is ahead of its time if people don't like it, simply because one piece of music caused a riot and eventually became a part of a tradition? The riot had a lot to do with what was considered to be obscene choreography.
