I like that Ellen mentions not lashing out as a gay person against anti-gay people, because - and this doesn't just apply to the issue of homosexuality - I find that too many people who bill themselves as "liberal" have gone to the extreme of not tolerating what they see as "conservative", therefore becoming conservative themselves, just on a different end of the spectrum of views. Openness should mean being able to accept that some people choose to ascribe to more traditional views too.
