  • Best Football fans in North America. This is looking like Football from Europe or Latin America.

  • How it should be done, at every American sporting event.

  • This is one football looks like in the great Pacific Northwest. Enjoy you stay ; )

  • This is why I love Portland.

  • The only thing better than a Timbers fan singing is my baby Justin singing keep it up fellas

  • Coming from a sounders fans trust me when I say I don't like the Timbers, but this is awesome. There's nothing wrong with this. I see this across the world where fans sing their national anthem, nice job timbers army.

  • Anyone who thinks this is a disrespect or "unamerican" in any way doesnt understand the culture of the sport and is quite frankly an asshole

  • Four Liberals disliked.

  • @thomaserossi More like 4 uptight conservatives who thought the Timbers were "disrespecting" the anthem.

  • @thomaserossi Buddy, this was in Portland. Odds are, the majority of the people signing then anthem were "liberals".

Your political views =/= your ability to love your country.

  • wooo go canada!!!!!!!!

  • I saw your game vrs Galaxy. I come from Costa Rica and I am jealous of your fan support... I am a soccer lover And I need to go there someday... It's terrific man. I went to Santiago Bernabeu and San Siro but I found the best place to support a team

  • @juandisoja23 Hey thanks man. It means a lot especially from international futbol fans. The majority of the US I've was lucky to get tickets in the Timbers Army section for two games this year and hands down best soccer/futbol experience in all of N. America. But I'm jealous of you, man ; ) I've always wanted to catch a match at Santiago Bernabeu huge Real Madrid fan.

  • Coming from an FCD fan, I'm utterly jealous of the fan support in the Northwest.

  • Ive been to a couple Timbers game but this one was defiantly the best!

  • goosebumps

  • fuck man why cant the USA National Team play here!!! we would get the best fan base!!!

  • whats with the scarf waving, I went to the exhibition game against West Bromwich Albion, being a fan of West Brom and English as we don't do the national anthem at the start of the game, we don't do this sort of thing

  • lyrics?

  • @Superbrajen Look up "star spangle banner" or the usa national anthem

  • Hi, I'm making a short documentary for a class at the University of Oregon and my interviewee talks about watching this, would you mind if I used a few seconds of it for my documentary?

  • I wouldn't mind at all. Just make sure you link back to this page or provide in the credits where you got the video. I am also a student at Oregon. What class is this for? @VencerlosconlaPaz

  • I wouldn't mind at all. Just make sure you link back to this page or provide in the credits where you got the video. I am also a student at Oregon. What class is this for? @VencerlosconlaPaz

  • Why is Rebecca Black the first suggestion for this video?

  • @jowitt09 lol I was asking the same thing RCTID

  • This is an expansion team? I've seen some other clubs that had sixty people in the stands and some jackass with a kazoo. This is how you do soccer in the NW.

    RCTID!

  • As a Union fan, I'm glad to see soccer really taking off in these new MLS cities. The world will understand how much this country cares about soccer!

  • portland has a soccer team? there is a big crowd? what is this madness?

  • RCTID

  • Glad to see the FOOTBALL passion growing in the US. Respect from Spain.

  • Gave me goosebumps!!

  • Coming from a Southsider...

    RESPECT.

  • Very, very cool!

  • @e081194eng They were hand painted banners by the Timbers Army or different landmarks in the Portland area. The flags were in the middle of the field

  • crazy this took place in the united states in a place where thered never been a soccer match before. This gave me goosebumps

  • @dayzedaway Uhh...Portland had a team in the NASL and for the last decade in the 2nd division of US soccer at the same place this game took place.

  • @dayzedaway maybe you need to watch espn more

  • @spee435 espn rarely plays anything that has to do with soccer. They dont even show highlights when united states plays a friendly and when world cup is on they barely give any air time to their games so i dont know what the shit you are talking about

  • I knew they'd all lose it and never finish the song at the last two lines...they all start cheering for whoever's singing and nearly ruining the 'Grand Finale' but forgetting that they're the singers. But great video. Going in favorites for sure!

  • what are they doing? like...waving towels? i cant even see it haha

  • @nessiii23 Probably team scarves, it's the big-foam-finger of soccer. Hockey does the same.

  • thats what be an American is about havent seen nothing that Patriotic since the post days of 9/11 Go America =)

  • WOW!!! What a great start to this game...wished more sporting events did this!

  • this just made me even more proud to be an American!

  • God bless America!!! Wait to go Portland!

  • @Davidchristancho it was on aol news article. i figured aol sucks watching video i clicked on the youtube icon to take me here.

  • OMG this looks freaking awesome! Looks like a killer place to watch a game too. Now if we can get this same motivation across the country

  • That's amazing <3 So much unity!

  • Welcome back Portland! Welcome back Timbers! I've missed you.

  • very nice but i don't watch soccer. hockey football and baseball only.

  • Soccer has arrived.........

  • the hissing reminds me of the Purple Cobras' entrance in the movie Dodgeball lol. v=g1UO6X0KRjc

  • This is pretty epic....never knew they were big on soccer in Portland.

  • @2KGrind09 Oh yes. This is not the first incarnation of their beloved Timbers.

  • I'm a DC fan 'til the day i die but this is amazing and you lot should be proud of yourselves and your club. Welcome to the MLS! (thanks for beating chicago, btw.)

  • Wow. From a TFC fan, the Timbers Army put the Red Patch Boys to shame. Excellent opener Timbers.

  • "If America is destroyed, it may be by Americans who salute the flag, sing the national anthem, march in patriotic parades, cheer Fourth of July speakers - normally good Americans who fail to comprehend what is required to keep our country strong and free - Americans who have been lulled away into a false security."-Ezra Taft Benson

  • @wmarcus1203 And, thankfully, Portland tends to be full of people who have CIVIC PRIDE, but not blind nationalism. When the Timbers Army sings the anthem, we really mean it.

  • @ehurtley I'm glad to hear that

  • @ehurtley Right on! Go Timbers! You were one of my favorite clubs going back to the NASL in the 70's. You should have had a MLS team all along.

  • America. FUCK YEAH.

  • I have never seen a crowd sing along to our National Anthem. I am not sure but the video makes it seems like the crowd actually started the anthem.

    Yahoo sent me here.

  • @Alpha0727 Yup. In America, before basically EVERY sports event, someone comes up to sing the National Anthem. For this match (the very first match of the team at the highest level of U.S. soccer at home,) it was chosen ahead of time to have the crowd sing, rather than some person at a microphone.

The left side of the stands is a group known as "The Timbers Army", basically the loudest/biggest soccer fan group in the U.S.

  • @ehurtley Thank you for the clarafication. I do know that in the USA, someone sings the National Anthem. I have been to a few sports games myself. I feel that this is what we should do for every game; have everyone sing the National Anthem. It has become somewhat of a custom to just remove your hat, maybe lower your head, and listen during the National Anthem. Sometimes people give you dirty looks for singing along. The rest of the US should follow what "The Timbers Army" does.

  • fuck man!

i wish i lived in the pacific northwest.... seems like soccer is catching on WAY more there.

  • Comment removed

  • football is cathing on here... im luvin it..

  • I bet Christina Aguilera was in the crowd and still messed up

  • 3 people are communists

  • @chaz1227 Nah, Portland (and especially the Timbers Army) is full of communists. :-D

  • That's awesome

  • It's amazing to finally see this sort of passion for Football - It's only a matter of time before the USA wins the world cup.

  • America, the beautiful. & soccer will take hold in the US. They just need some superstars to transfer

  • TFC fans would do our anthem better :) haha but no seriously awesome video

  • The Timbers jerseys are so ugly >_>

  • @BOSUProductions disagree ! I think they look great, I like the white sleeves with green torso.

  • That was pretty cool!

  • Now THAT is the way the national anthem SHOULD be sung - loudly and proudly, by we the people. Serious props to the Timbers Army for doing it right. :D

  • i'm proud to be an MLS supporter. this is what the beautiful game is all about! not a fan of the Timbers, but that was amazing! i got goosebumps just watching

  • Great job Timber Army!

Also, 2 people don't like this video and need to get out of america! that was awesome.

  • WELL DONE Timbers Army - from NYC.

  • WHOA! That looks like a PARTY! I'm gonna have to get my ass down there to see a game! Now, if only it wasn't already sold out for the season....

  • @valdez13 Go to the TalkTimbers web forum, someone can hook you up.

  • almost can't believe this is in the US, and I live here. Portland's awesome, good job Timbers fans. GO MLS, GO CREW

  • I think the "soccer will never catch on in the U.S." is sarcasm.

It's mocking those that said it. Sarcasm doesn't come through well on the internet.

  • I was there in '97 for US - Costa Rica. That was epic.

  • I wish I were a Portland Timbers fan. You guys are by far the best MLS supporters.

  • It was truly awesome to be there in person last night. As a season ticket holder in the TA for a few years now, I can honestly say this was the best sports event I've ever been to. When I root, I root for the Timbers!

  • how can anyone not like this?

  • On behalf of the Red Patch Boys (Toronto FC), my hat off to Portland and the Timbers Army. The league needed this.

  • @FluSH112 @InnocentXXBystander When TFC comes to town, we'll sing Oh, Canada for you, too.

  • TFC fan here..

    wow that was good..

  • This was INCREDIBLE in person last night - thanks for posting this! RCTID!

  • gives me chills... this is what should happen in brazil 2014! respect from NY

  • epicly stunningly beautifully done

  • @MANWORKER1: We'll sing Oh, Canada. For 3-4 years the TA has been singing the National Anthem, this was the first time there was noone of hte field with a mic, but many of us also sing Oh Canada when Vancouver (and this year Toronto) are in town.

  • @steeplechase3k I really did not even think about how the Timbers played Vancouver. You are all doing America proud by showing you're patriotism and respect for Canada by knowing the Canadian anthem

  • damn i just got chills ....

  • What will they do when they play a Canadian team?

  • @MANWORKER1 They play both anthems.

And the Timbers Army sings the Canadian anthem, too. (Only American sports fanbase I have ever seen that even KNOWS the words to the Canadian anthem, much less sings along...)

  • @ehurtley its good to hear that they can sing the Canadian national anthem. I think that it is pretty pitiful that alot of Americans do not sing the anthem whole heartedly. Of all the nations that i have watched a sporting event take place where the anthem took place Americans have to be the least enthused about it.

  • @MANWORKER1 the canadian national anthem? that's the american national anthem

  • @greenman1694 Im not a fucking idiot. You obviously did not take my comment in the context that it was presented. I was replying to another person who said that they would sing the Canadian national anthem when i asked what they would do when they hosted a Canadian team

  • This is legit. Ive been waiting for this day for a long time.

  • Awesome vid! Portland rocked that one big time. Much respect.

  • Respect from LA

  • Love this country and the Great People: Americans!!

  • That is so awesome! Good luck to the Timbers on their first season in the MLS. From a Rochester Rhinos fan.

  • Who needs some dumb random famous person to sing the national anthem when you have almost 22,000 football fans. Proud to be American!

  • @thetruenumber3 Im mexican and I sang :)

  • @PokemonNews03 why would you sing another country's anthem?

  • The one dislike this video has is Osama

  • This makes me so proud to be an Oregonian and American. The only time I have ever seen the National Anthem come close to being that awesome is at Blackhawks and Bears games in Chicago with the crowd cheering as loud as they can the whole time. Portland RULES and soccer is here to stay.

  • I was there last night... the crowd was epic... the game extremely satisfying. It's not that Chicago didn't show up, they did, they just lost :)

    Go Timbers!!!

  • Now this... This gave me Goosebumps! :)

  • best part about watching soccer at a stadium is not having to be directed and led by some stupid jumbo tron...that's why nba games aint what they used to be

  • unbelievable

  • I love how the fans of the newer teams are so much louder and excited than the already established clubs.

    UNNNNNNNNNION

  • @N0kel You wouldn't exist if it wasn't for us old timers. Show Some Respect

    ESC Represent!

  • @daceyny Uh, both Portland and Philadelphia have just as long a soccer heritage as New Jersey.

  • thats really cool. sure beats having someone famous like christina aguilera to butcher it as she sees fit

  • i am not a soccer fan. But this is bad azz!

  • You don't see a more united crowd in any sporting event. Football ( UK resident here) is magnificent.

  • @sblackt

Am I stupid where the fuck is this?

  • @sblackt look up "Canucks Vs Hawks - Game 1 Entrance & Anthems - 2011 Playoffs - 04.13.11 - HD" then try and tell me soccer is more united

  • @justincoolboy5 Seriously? That's competition?

Congrats, they sing ONE song together. Come back when they actually have songs sung during the game, without the help of the PA system. And this was a playoff game...we do this on the daily. Also note, they're in a dome, and still weren't as loud. And would live to see some tifo/banner displays...

Hell, look at youtube . f6_hPqgIJLc Arsenal supporters...in an AWAY game....while LOSING 7-2. No contest.

  • god damn it!! thats the way you sing the national anthem, great!!

  • way to go portland!

  • Haha no worries, kind youtube stranger.

  • It's in quotes because I'm not the one saying it. I am mocking those that do!

  • @wearebc Whoops...missed that one my bad!

  • @wearebc Are you for real? I am taking a roadie to a Timbers match just for that!!

  • @pibeinocente We'll be happy to have you! Let us know when you'll be here. You'll get the greatest hospitality that can be shown for as long as you're here (minus the 90 minutes of play.) :-D

  • "Soccer will never catch on in the U.S."

  • @wearebc Did you not watch the video? Ha. It might not catch on as big as it is in Europe but believe me soccer is here to stay in PDX!

  • @lpichett I think he was posting it as sarcasm haha. This is is sick, viva us soccer.

  • @lpichett I think the quotations imply that wearebc is mocking the people that say that.

  • @wearebc wake up, numbnuts! Soccer HAS caught on in the USA!

  • @billc756 @pibeinocente style is lost on the youtube masses. see: my other comments

  • @wearebc it won't, because it sucks

  • This seriously just made me teary. Proud to be a Portlander and can't wait to join the army. Xo, Sarah

  • This is the MLS

  • ¡Viva el fútbol!

  • Unbelievable! You would never see anything like that in NFL

  • @Mindis78 Actually it happened at a Detroit Lions NFL game last year. The mic went out on the woman who was supposed to sing it so the crowd and the players sang it

  • wow, i wish this happened at revs games

  • This is pretty freaking awesome...

  • Quakes fan here. Portland showed MLS how it's done last night. As for Sounders fans taking credit for how it's done, let's remember before Seattle Xbox joined MLS, it only drew (carey) about 2,500 per game. The Timbers in D2 were drawing 9K plus every game.

The TA just jumped to the top of the class in every aspect of the word. Kudos to the TA and the Timbers organization. I just moved to the Portland area and can't wait to attend a Timbers game to soak in the atmosphere.

  • I saw this, I watch European soccer, and when I saw this I was like "eh.." but I decided to stay, and it was a good game.

  • @dukenukem4lifeyo123 -- Oh, wow, you watch European soccer, video game boy? You must be really cool. So pleased you decided to honor us by watching little old MLS.

  • This is too fucking cool. Soccer city, Rose City!

  • Only proves me right.. there is no bigger fans than MLS fans.. great job Portland. Much respect

  • son of ben here. timbers army was really impressive. i'm glad to see a group like that come into the league to help push the others.

  • there's one thing missing here: THE FLYOVER! so sad they don't do the flyovers in soccer matches!

  • @crazypk40 -- save the flyover for the NFL. This was MUCH cooler.

  • @crazypk40 Don't think they'll do a fly over through downtown Portland, too many buildings and hills... gotta be an NFL stadium out in the burbs... BTW Awesome night. Go Timbers RCTID

  • Fantastic.

  • Neat to see Portland taking a cue from Seattle on having the fans sing the National Anthem. Classy move!

  • @bmvaughn I'm Seattle supporter. As true as you get. But tonight their version was much better than ours. That said, having followed the Cascadian clubs for years, I doubt they'll match this level again. It was the specialness of the night taking over.

  • @carella211 Portland is known for having the best fans in pro sports, look at the blazers and now the timbers. but i agree the opening night was spectacular but i do believe they will keep it up.
