Actually, he doesnt say that Jews werent crucified. He says that, for the crime supposedly committed by Jesus, the penalty was lapidation. It amazes me how hard is for Catholics to accept irrefutable truths like the fact of Earth being round, but how easily they accept that a box contains Jesus remains. a) Some Jews were crucified

b) Some Jewish crucifixion victims were buried in traditional tombs.

I haven't read Onfray's book, so I cannot comment on the rest of your comment, aside from saying that pretty much all *normal* Christians do, in fact, believe that the Earth is round and that pedophilia is wrong.

Ok, you believe that the earth is round. Have you ever wondered at what cost? Giordano Bruno was tortured for 8 years (can you imagine?) by defending these ideas (when they were not accepted). Was then burned alive. By whom? That's right, by the Church itself. When knowledge becomes impossible to ignore, they rewrite history and minimize such events. How can they ignore these deaths? However, it's not fair to write-off Christianity because of the failings of the Roman Catholic church - in exactly the same way one shouldn't write-off Atheism due to its failings in Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao, to name a just few.

Now, on the topic of blind following: Christianity teaches *against* this (1 Thess 5:21), so your point appears to be moot. I, for one, never disengage my brain when reading the Bible, at church or not.

Confirmation of mundane historical details like the method of execution and burial of people in the Bible, by independent historical evidence, doesn't necessarily corroborate the miraculous events, which justify the worship of Jesus. Your arguments are not convincing. You guys have to "dissect" Bible into Old and New Testaments, and only than put argument about facts of Jesus' existence. Son travail ne m'intéresse pas et je m'en fout un peu d'Onfray en fait, je demandais l'argument par principe. C vrai que déconstruire le christianisme en 2008 c'est vraiment... vraiment... à la masse. On a bouffé du cureton pendant 2 siècles faut passer à autre chose maintenant. Exemple : quand Onfray tente de démontrer que Jésus ne peut pas avoir existé en narrant la scène de l'interrogatoire mené par Pilate. Il postule que Jésus ne peut pas avoir rencontré Pilate, que ce dernier ne peut pas avoir interrogé un simple individu tel que Jésus. Que Pilate ne devait parler que le latin et que Jésus ne devait, en tant que juif, ne parler que l'hébreu ou l'araméen. Que la communication aurait été impossible entre les deux.

Donc, en niant ou en occultant la vraisemblance selon laquelle Pilate connaissant le grec (langue internationale à l'époque) et Jésus le...grec (langue...internationale à l'époque), Onfray ment. Et il ne s'arrête pas là.

En déclarant Jésus prisonnier de droit-commun (page 172 de son livre d'athéologie format poche), il ment. Jésus était poursuivi par les autorités religieuses juives pour blasphème. Cela étant, les Juifs religieux voulaient condamner Jésus à mort.

Bref, tout ce qu'il relève comme fictions sont l'expression de son incompétence. Il reprend des théories à son compte et extrapole à s'en montrer ridicule. J'adorerais de le voir en débat face à un historien comme John Meier. Je veux même bien être son interlocuteur dans un débat.
