Gas Mantles are not radioactive anymore :(

Most aren't. They replaced thorium with cerium because it's cheaper, not because it's non-radioactive. Some still use thorium though, and they're actually much better. They give a brighter, whiter light.

you can find those everywhere in the net, it's quite basic. High voltage generation and an amplifier, capacitively coupled. The problem is: where to get the damn tube?

Great project !! Good demonstration. Many people do not realise that gas mantles are radioactive.
