this is a subject to explore me. i wish it were in the main stream more. if black ppl eating in restuarant arguing, sexualizng waitress thats not dignified, respectful, or smart. august says its just racial. i think education will change that. basic psychology-thats a way to hurt people more than help,(to act like that at the waffle house.) MLK say judge by character not color, what kind a character is that? i think the black culture needs encouragement and they have all the riches n the world
number 1 who can prove what august wilson is saying is the actual rule. number 2 i dont know i forgot. anyway i like this interview. i think august wilson is chasing ratings in this. tyler perry changed the cosby show mentality. anyway irish people tend me to a little less elegant that those whites with the pointy noses. i never considered that it could be not a cultural thing, but a racial kind of distinction in genes, interesting theory to investigate. very intriguing enjoyable enterview
@titanicmusic14 to international white people as well. you ever been in harlem on a sunday afternoon? tour buses full of white people from all over the world. white people who value culture and appreciate the rich and diverse tapestry that is america that includes black culture. welcome to america my friend :-)
Who is this interviewer, or who does he think he is? It is so good to see a man able to articulate who he is and have definitive pride in his background. Amazing how it only has 3000 plus hits. I have read all of August Wilson's plays and seen a few as well. Absolutely fantastic. Great upload. Thanks
In other words August Wilson is simply saying that White Supremacy has dominated and killed the world and has influenced our world in such a negative way that not only african americans but other races and cultures of color over time has felt that they are below and beneath whites (caucasians), its the idea of the world being white and supreme to others!
The interviewer (Bill Moyers?) is very ignorant. What type of question is "aren't you tired of thinking black?" Wilson should have turned it around on him. Besides the stupidity of Moyers, the interview was great. Wilson is an admirable man.
@Raven7590 You waited long and waisted too much time being a cyber racist sitting in your moms basement in your drawls dreaming of things that you will never accomplish!!! You would need a whole lotta rope and heart to do that and the people that are trying to make your dreamm come true are not behind a computer. : )
Truly, this Elder was a great man. So well spoken, reflected and composed. Like a cooler, wiser, less sensational version of late Brother K. Muhammad - but equally pro-black. I am proud to call Elder Wilson one of ours. As I understand, today would have been his 66th birthday. May he rest in perfect peace knowing that we continue where he left off.
White man: Don't you grow weary of thinking black, writing black, being asked question about black?
@BrotherChimaobi I loved Mr. Wilson and had the honor of meeting him and then being friends with him and he was such and smart and sweet man. I basically saw him sitting at a table writing two decades ago and I ran over to him to talk his ear off. He told me to hold on a few minutes, he left and returned with a copy of Fences, he autographed it for me and we were friends from that time on. I was only a 21 year old aspiring writer and he could have just ignored me but he did not, nice man.
This was great. I just discovered August Wilson's work and I'm really glad to have run across this interview. He touched on a lot of important issues regarding Blacks and Black America.
'you can never transcend who you are.' Oh....shit.

Billy Moyers is usually such a great interviewer. But here he seems very inept, stupid almost.

@danHiroshi
It is. There's little of the late Mr. Wilson in conversation on film (video) . I was most grateful to find this. Thanks for watching.
