Also suspicious is the burglars' "incompetence." These were CIA spooks, not a bunch of hacks. After security removed the tape they disarmed the locks with, they re-taped the same locks. Sounds like they wanted to get caught.

And Barker went on a break in while carrying a "WH" phone listing? That sounds a bit too pat.

Some elements suggest that the burglars intended to get caught, possibly to topple Nixon. What was the real reason? Nixon was plain paranoid. A lot of it was also to quell the anti-Vietnam sentiment in the country, and the rest was to cover up Nixon's past crimes to get to where he was. I have no doubt this guy had something to do with JFK and RFK's murders. Along with LBJ, J. Edgar Hoover, E. Howard Hunt.

Howard Hunt himself said that Cord Meyer (who was one of the organizers of the JFK hit) went off the reservation and hired a French Connection hitman named Lucien Sarti. This has also been cooberated by another French criminal Christian David and another former associate of his. And it was all organized through lawyers so that they were bound by attorney client privilege and therefore never legally allowed to talk about it to anybody.

If you listen to the Nixon tapes 6-23-72 from 10:04am to 11:39am,Nixon is worried about the "Cubans" and the "Texans".Also the FBI seized the contents of Hunt's safe,Nixon told FBI director Patrick Gray that it was "political dynamite" and shouldnt see the light of day.Gray took the documents home and burned them in his fireplace.

Yes, it was definitely to sabotage the democrats, since Nixon was a bit paranoid and kept an enemies list about who to destroy. He had a lifelong inferiority complex and would have for once liked to be shown in better light. He was vice president before he became president and was well aware of the security apparatus at his disposal. So he went on and used it for his personal purposes. What gets me is that Watergate is, in some ways, what TV and film fodder is what Watergate was made of; it was totally nonsensical from beginning to end.

There was no Democrat who could have defeated RMN in '72; the party itself was in the state of disarray. All Nixon had to do was sit back and let the Democrats lose the Presidential race.

Sturgis claims that the Watergate burglars had been instructed to find a particular document in the Democratic Party offices. This was a "secret memorandum from the Castro government" that included details of CIA covert actions. Sturgis said "that the Castro government suspected the CIA did not tell the whole truth about this operations even to American political leaders".

Wrong: Harry Truman always stood firm in his beliefs and principles, although at times, he alienated people in his own party.

It wasn't about finding dirt on the Demos. It was about finding out what dirt the Demos possessed on the Republicans. It goes back to Howard Hughes' illegal donation money and eventually to CIA connections to the JFK assassination. The JFK hit, according to Haldeman in his book, is what Nixon was referring to in the cryptic statement about the "whole Bay of Pigs thing." It's no accident that the Wategate burglars were mostly anti-Castro Cubans and CIA vets like Hunt and McCord.
