I had dinner with Milt Jackson many years ago and we talked about these two sets, Soul Brothers and Soul Meeting. He and Ray worked out a thing where Bags would move to the piano when Ray moved to the alto. Seamless and joyjful beyond belief. Every cut in both albums is a gem
Ray was always awesome! One of the highpoints of my life was seeing him in concert at Arkansas State University back in 1969! My girlfriend made me take her back stage to get his autograph! (Yeah, I know how STUPID that sounds, but when you had someone as sweet as her you just didn't say "NO") So I actually got to meet him and shake his hand, if ever so briefly.
Who did the guitar solo ? As a matter of fact, everyone in this track did improvise so...cool, and so.....blue. Even the double bass was also....awesome.
@jazzfanjohn I own the album and just checked the personnel listed and it said that the guitarist's name is Skeeter Best. I've certainly never heard of him, but nonetheless that's what it says. I'm sure he'd be honored to know that somebody thought he was Kenny Burrell. I know I sure as hell would! :)
That reed-breaking heart-stopping note Ray hits on the alto at 6:39 has stayed with me for more than fifty years.

@ WindyCity JazzThanks for the correction - I remember the name Skeeter Best: there was another musician billed as Keeter Betts I think!
