I had the pleasure to meet the inventor, back in the 80's, in Big Sur! We carried his instruments at the Phoenix shop, at Nepenthe...there were all different sizes, the smaller ones sounded like dolphins, and the bigger ones, like whales. Awesome and amazing instruments, I'm glad to see them still around! =)
@tuuexx Yes there are copies of the original Waterphone, but if you really like the instrument you must be aware that they are not as good. I know, because I have been playing the Aquasonic Super Mondo for a year before buying a Waterphone MegaBass by the inventor! The copy just cannot stand the comparison with the real Waterphone. The craftmanship, the sound, the richness of the timber, all is so highly superior on the real Waterphone by Richard Waters!...
@theduckdaffy -thank you.you are so right...i have been soaking up all info i can find, and can tell from listening to the dif. instruments, the sound quality.the harmonics, etc, are so ...deep. i love soundtracks of the strange,scary,sci-fi sorts, and love the soundtracks of 70,s shows ,like Night Gallery, that made wonderful use of this soundtool.it even does my "#2 pencil over spinning bicycle spokes " sound.guess i,ll start saving $
i saw this instrument being played on tv,and was blown away ! !...i love it.i collect sound effect tech. , and have to get one. the piece i saw said one could find copies for around 100 $, but i havent checked.i love odd noise, and once took a auto-harp,took off the fretting stuff, put a pick-up in it,and got alot of cool noise,s,suitable for sound track stuff.thanks for this vid.
at 2:35, the sound came out of my computer, and then somehow bounced around my head from left, to right for about 4 seconds... I'm now convinced that I must own one of these someday.
:-? Could you play, moonlight sonata for us and show that it's a real instrument

Wow, that's amazing. It sounds like something that should be coming from a synth keyboard, not an acoustic instrument!
