  • se preocupa mas por la tecnica del nunchaku , que por sus propios pasos que mal

  • I don't feel that there is anything about this that is Bruce Lee or Old. The Uniform maybe. definately not the foam chucks. OK form.

  • nice but you need to practice your kicks more

  • It not old nunchaku kata!

  • nice moves - I'm sure these morons who complain have been in numerous nunchaku fights(rolls eyes).

  • 1. training chucks let you hear that slappying noise.

    2. same moves over and over

    3. never swing above your head cause your body is open for blows... u get my point yet?

  • nunchucks are cool

  • he is spankin him self man.

  • All arm, no hip integration in the strikes. This is what youd expect of someone with no traditional kobudo training, all flash.

  • He's swinging a lump of wood at 50 miles an hour - how much hip integration does he need? At most, hips would simply increase his reach, but given the nature of the weapon, that benefit would be negligible. It's the old argument; speed vs power. In this case, give me speed every time. And let's not get teary eyed about "traditional" kobudo - they were Okinawan peasants for god's sake!

  • Apparently you've never seen hip integration done right.

"Traditional Kobudo" is a path to "become one" with your tool, not the only path.

Good instructions, correct practice, and lots of love for your arts will get you there some day.

  • Yeah, guess I've wasted 35 years learning to put my hips into the equation. Damn Matayoshi kobudo has apparently screwed me all up on the whole power generation subject. Suppose I should be using those little foam nunchaku too, huh?

  • this is jeet kun do?

  • It depends how you look at it. JKD is the concept. If you have it in you then anything you do is JKD.

As for the physical parts of it, my nunchaku moves are from when I trained in JKD some 10-17 years ago while the pattern and foot works have more resemblance to Shotokan kata.

  • Yeah, guess I've wasted 35 years learning to put my hips into the equation. Damn Matayoshi kubudo has apparently screwed me all up on the whole power generation subject. I should probably pick up a set of those foam nuchaku and start all over huh?

  • This is an awesome and functional kata. Thanks for posting it.

  • to those of you who are thinking traditonal katas; these new schools that have been popping up for years, the ones that teach aerobatics and flips and all the flashy stuff. I am pretty sure that what they believe to be traditional katas are entirely different than what we believe to be traditional. Their's come from established katas created by any one (or more) person in the schools lineage; which could have been very old. While ours come from the true roots of Japan/Okinawa/Wherever.

  • thank god a video i can learn from, i knw his aint like som stuff but seriously this is sorta wat i self taught me self i hate that twirly stuff it dnt work, i practicie on a punching bag with my nunchuks n if u do a twirly thing it jst falls out of ur hand. so ggod video man

  • Lol of course it wont make a punching bag fly back but its creating momentum and speed for your initial strike and if you strike someone in the face with it or leg or body or arm or anywhere itll damage

  • jesus those kicks are sloppy

  • cool , bruce lee way, and your black belt

  • Nice. A kata with actually strikes and preparedness, not like that baton-twirling 'freestyle' garbage.

  • looks pretty flashy, but i dont think this is the old nunchaku kata. this looks like something bruce lee would do. Bruce lee was awesome w nunchaku but nunchaku is a japanese weapon. so there is no way bruce lee could have his own nunchaku kata. you have to be a master to develop your own kata.

  • Yes, I made it up at the spot : > The idea is to mix nunchaku with some of karate stepping pattern. The word "old" is just for the old film effect I added to the clip.

  • nunchaku is actually frim china however it got the most popularity in japan so ppl assume its japanese but its actually really from china

  • That Is Pure Skill With a Nunchaku and by the way dont let the fools who dont know a thing about nunchaku put you off or let you down because you will always be in my good books

  • i agree with shihansensei on this matter, a traditional "old" kata would use only movemnets that are suited to actual combat, i saw very few that i would actually use in a fight. and you used very little blocking techniques which is not typical for a traditional kata that is taught to be used against another weapon

  • yes, but the point is that the kata is good. not whether it's traditional or not. The fact of the matter is that the traditional thinkers and the new thinkers have a stupid rift between them, and it is very ridiculus. Arm yourself with some semi-traditional karate.

  • hey dude i see u alot you go to shinkyu shotokan karate tourneys see you sunday

  • VERY GOOD EXCELLENT!!!

  • I viewed the kata and have a problem with it being called an old kata. I see a little Japanese Karate in your geri waza but old kata typically do not use kicking when doing Kobudo. This "kata" appears good for handling the nunchaku & speed and such, but not effective for kumite or actual combat.I have studied in Japan & Okinawa the actual art of kobudo since 1973 and karate-do since 1965. I do not know it all by any means but this appears better suited for "open karate."

  • dammit, man! Why do you got to get all smart on us?!

  • lets see how many broken ribs you'd have with wooden chucks

  • at least he aint just a cheerleader and actually does strikes

  • if you put bruce lee's name somewhere make sure that it's the brucee lee's way and don't wear a karate-gi dude

  • Sorry man, I wouldnt consider Bruce Lees way of nunchaku as old. And Bruce Lee didnt use kata, he didnt like them at all.

  • Kata means "way of", so yeah Bruce Lee did have a kata, eg Bruce Lee style.

  • The way he runs off at the end and the flawless performance all of this seems very Napoleon Dynamite to me...

  • keep up the good work dude! go for 11th dan!

  • I am confused megachristel13 you are one belt away from black? and you don't know if your style even has weapons? You either need a new school, or you are not very observant. In most traditional schools Kobudo (weapons training) is reserved for Dan (black belt ranks). And yes by all means buy a set of traditional wooden octogan nunchuku and swing them hard and fast without training ;)

  • im a white belt and ive allready been tought a basic kata for nunchuku, so its not allways the blackbelts taht only get tought the weapons

  • hahaha u can hear urself running to the camera to turn it off lol. dud put a nice old japanese theme instrumental. love the kata

  • hey megachristel313. if you want to learn nunchaku. then lern nunchaku. buy some nunchucks. and practice, every day. and soon you will know how. don't just wait for someone to teach you.

  • hey, this is karate right? I do karate and am currently one belt away from black, its shotokan karate but was wondering if in shotokan we will get to use wepons such as nunchucks. I acually do have some but am beginner.

  • if your shotokan school is directly associated with the JKA or the nipon karate association I doubt that you will get to learn kobudo shoto is like TKD in is sport orientation just pure kumite or fighting and empty hand katas, now if is under a different organization like wkf or wuko you'll get to do kobudo so far there's no world champion in kobudo kata...let me refrase the last comment it depends on your teacher and school curriculum if you're in the miami area I can point out who does.

  • nice form, very stiff and classic karate combination. The movements were like ping-an 2 fused with nun chucks.. i love it. i will try to copy his movements later.

  • really nice

  • Yes, awesome, such concentration.

  • Nunchucks owns! check out my nunchaku video too if you have time! =)

    5/5*

  • hand him some wood chucks hed do the same thing! nice job

  • very good... good technic and ideas, but clearly its not a wooden nunchaku ;]

  • So what if its not wood, its noth the instrument that counts, but the skill!

  • Very nice form, Sangsuwan. I loved the combination of old style kata walks and turns with modern nunchaku spins. It flows nicely and I agree with Master Lee Barden's comments wholeheartedly! Well done!

  • Thank you. I like Mr. Lee Barden's clips a lot too.

  • Heheh nice vid great hits.

  • EXCELLENTY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice form

  • Да они из поролону. Фигня.

  • very good nd very inspirational,, nunchuks rule

  • my comment was aimed at crackerwacky XD but yeah if that was you it looked real good, enjoyed watching it.

  • This just shows the lost art of practical use, not fancy garbage like you see in most cases Thanks

  • His strikes from underneath the arm (and his kicks come to that) wouldn't knock out a fly! Real techniques? Uhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm. Looked very weak to me. He looked like he had no control over them and was happy that he didn't hit himself. Didn't look like he was really content in his technique. Why did he bow with them still under his arm?

  • "wouldn't knock out a fly!"

    I like that :)

  • its kata... your not supposed to go all out.

  • When your chuck is under your arm, you're in position to do anything. Anyways, I'd like to swing a nunchuck from under my arm and hit you in the head. It's not going to feel good.

The weight of the nunchuck alone is enough to hurt someone's head. Any sort of strike would just do more damage.

  • clean and simple yet effective and deadly...

  • "Old" just meant I use the VDO effect to make it looks old. The kata is from me.

  • "Old"? Do you mean the video or the kata itself? If the kata I would be interested to know where it came from.

  • Excellent demonstration. Thanks for holding them right and striking. It is refreshing to see real techniques on this youtube.

    Lee Barden

  • That reminds me of a movie from long time back. A taichi sword master defeated bunch of foes with his bamboo stick.. what a show off. No authorities back then stopped him from using his sword.

  • In France, it is still possible to hold a not well know but yet efficient weapon: the "cane".

Combat cane was developed in the 1700's and was widely used by "savate" practitioners. At the time people got mugged very often, and cane de combat remains a very street effective armed self defense weapon. The interresting part is that it is NOT forbidden to hold a cane. (or, why not, an umbrella!)

Somebody practicing fencing may also be a good fighter with such a tool.

  • I'm in California and am learning with the wooden ones - as long as you're in a dojo, you're convered. I just wonder if I walk home if the local PD will stop me because I am holding a 6-foot long bo and then wonder about gig bag with not only my gi, but several forms of weapons: "See, the kama have no edges, they're just for practice!"

  • those chaku are padded...

  • That's right. I trained with real chucks until moved into California. It's a felony here.

  • i see..

  • it is?

    uh-oh......

  • i tried that with sausage links and a shoestring...my clothes smelled like pork for a week.

    -thing of itself.

  • Take a bite at each end and see if it swings better.

  • hmm...thanks..if that doesnt work then i'll switch to turkey links. (they weigh less)

  • nigga u gay an dstupid not in abad way

  • nice.

  • Wow, that was fuckin' dope.

  • Very skilled practitioner
