@donniesbrudder well, metallica was a million times better than this. anvil was pretty much just a decent garage/bar band. they weren't good enough to make it big time. the vocals aren't there, and the lyrics kinda suck. the riffs are ok, but are still very basic. the best member of this band is the drummer
Anvil was the bridge between NWOBHM and the Metal that was to become in the 80's. Their early contributions cannot be denied. There was a progression in their first 3 albums. Forged In fire was ahead of its time. At the time of it's release, it was widely panned, but with time, people were finally able to grasp and fully appreciate it's significance. There should be an official Heavy Metal Hall of Fame, and Anvil should be charter members! \m/

Anvil should re-record this song as "School Lunch" in honor of Lips' lousy day job. I heard he and Robb were able to quit their day jobs because of their current wave of success. I am so glad Lips still doesn't wear a S&M harness. The guy is in his '50s.

I thought the story of anvil was a mocumentary and it was so funny i watched it again and relized ther a real ther a real band. these guys are pretty fuckin good.
Since the commentary is mostly Anvil vs. Metallica, I'll chime in.
Metallica's first album was gonna be called "Metal Up Your Ass" but any of their recent releases could easily have been called "Daisies In Bloom".
At least Anvil has stayed true to their metal calling for over 30 years with the only exception being one show in Brooklyn, NY when Lips wasn't the front man.

if anyone has the anvil documentary, you have to see the lars ulrich interview in its entirety...don't be tempted to turn it off...because you will...and you would have thought that anvil came at the same time the earth was created...
Anvil's problem was that they didn't evovle noticably with each album. But you can't listen to this and then listen to Kill Em' All and tell me you don't hear similarities in style. You CAN hear the influence. And if these guys weren't a big influence, then Lars wouldn't have done such a lengthy interview for the film.
i think this band didnt make it cause iron maiden dominated the early 80's and metallica dominated the late 80's so bands like anvil and armored saint were overlooked, ground breakers like slayer were noticed though
As far as ripping the other off? Eh maybe yeah maybe not. They for sure were the two biggest at the time with the heavy metal + punk influence sound. The similarity is pretty obvious and it kinda sucks that such a kick ass band fell by the wayside while another made it HUGE. Metallica just marketed better or whatever and as a result, a group that should have had a big influence when metal was just a baby fell by the wayside. Anvil f-ing rocks but in the end, it is what it is =/.

Since the commentary is mostly Anvil vs. Metallica, I'll chime in.
Metallica's first album was gonna be called "Metal Up Your Ass" but any of their recent releases could easily have been called "Daisies In Bloom".
At least Anvil has stayed true to their metal calling for over 30 years with the only exception being one show in Brooklyn, NY when Lips wasn't the front man.
And don't forget...Robb Reiner is THE MAN!!

just saw them live. It will be the best most "Metal" show you will see. All those bands that ripped them off and made millions are pretty shit now and totally should have helped each other. Listen to their 13 albums.. they rock... and are all wicked fun metal not all depressing doom and gloom or angry shit.. ANVIL .. yeah :)

if anyone has the anvil documentary, you have to see the lars ulrich interview in its entirety...don't be tempted to turn it off...because you will...and you would have thought that anvil came at the same time the earth was created...

Anvil's problem was that they didn't evovle noticably with each album. But you can't listen to this and then listen to Kill Em' All and tell me you don't hear similarities in style. You CAN hear the influence. And if these guys weren't a big influence, then Lars wouldn't have done such a lengthy interview for the film.

i think this band didnt make it cause iron maiden dominated the early 80's and metallica dominated the late 80's so bands like anvil and armored saint were overlooked, ground breakers like slayer were noticed though

As far as ripping the other off? Eh maybe yeah maybe not. They for sure were the two biggest at the time with the heavy metal + punk influence sound. The similarity is pretty obvious and it kinda sucks that such a kick ass band fell by the wayside while another made it HUGE. Metallica just marketed better or whatever and as a result, a group that should have had a big influence when metal was just a baby fell by the wayside. Anvil f-ing rocks but in the end, it is what it is =/.
