Love the fact that he started playing sax to strengthen his lungs after he had childhood polio. I can't remember how many times I've seen David Sanborn in concert. The last time was at The Blue Note in the Village. He was so close I could touch him. My ears were ringing for a few days but it was worth it. Had almost every cd he made, even the old albums they transferred to cd. Camel Island is my very fav. The whole Close Up cd is fantastic. "MAN, YOU CAN BLOW!"
Marcus Miller wrote & produced, all of Sanborn funkiest songs. Actually, every song that has made Sanborn a household name Marcus wrote & produced for him.
You do realize lou2cv that this is one of his signature funky songs right up there with Maputo? I have been listening to dave for years now (41 yeras old) and have nothing but mad love for this cat.
The sound is good, but the performance is a bit labored. But for anyone to belittle David Sanborn's ability and legitimacy as an artist of versatility is going a bit far.
This man has been in the vanguard of jazz, funk, fusion, latin, pop, and rock for years. As musician, I am often inspired by the freedom he allows other performers around him to contribute to the sound.
I'm going to be honest, I don't like half of the songs sanborn has composed. I just like listening to his featured solo's in other composers songs. He has great phrasing, tone and rythm

David Sanborn is not in his element here... He would be right in some pop are Funk, but this music is a kind of latin music...

Not in his element... You dont have a clue... Jazz, pop. funk, latin, rock... He has done it all and you have missed it..

I meant he still sounds way better (for my ears, it's my opinion and I respect yours !) on pop or funk.
