This is the problem with some Shotokan teachers. Yes, you might be champion in competition but you might be poor in teaching in the arts of karate. These kids are too early for jiyu-kumite and you should know that better. They should be grilled in kihon and kata and should progress to kumite accordingly. It might be exciting to see a kid sweeping and flooring down an opponent but the kids karate skill is really just superficial.
