First of all, where does Kevin Spacey, get the "balls," to act, write and direct a movie, about a subject that obviously, he has NOT done ANY extensive, honest, reasearch on? In addition, must agree with the general public; this phony biography of the GREATEST talent that has ever lived, is an absolute DUD!! Will never see another movie featuring Spacey, again!!! Nice editing, I must say! As for Spacey's performance here, I'd have to say he doesn't come close to Darin's vocals or stage presence - compare this video with a live performance of Darin singing "Mack the Knife" and see if you don't agree. On the other hand, Spacey's performance of "Beyond the Sea" in this movie is remarkably good. His singing throughout the movie is like that - some of the songs he nails, others are just OK.

He agreed to do the biopic on the condition that he would not lip sync to Darin recordings but would sing the musical numbers himself, even though he was not an experienced singer. Sorry but this was up there with Jon voight's perfomance as howard cosell in "Ali". Darin died at 37, still a young man, Spacey is 50 and it shows. i know Spacey means well and his work i admire, but the film took a true original and turned him into 2nd rate lounge act. it was brave of Spacey to also do his own singing, but nobody can hold a candle to Darin's performances. when one admires someone to the degree Spacey clearly does, sometimes the best tribute one can give is to leave it alone!

Great video! I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, but I was a fan of Bobby Darin. "Mack the Knife" came out the same year I was born.

But I have to say that Kevin Spacey (a huge Darin fan) did an incredible job. His versions of Darin tunes are the only ones I can listen to, besides the originals. Kevin Spacey was incredible in this role.
