@ParanormalRob Yeah, it was unusual compared the VideoCipher scrambling pattern. It was a Jerrold box. VideoCipher was used simultaneously on our cable system actually, but that PPV channel was only available on addressable boxes. All the WWF PPVs would actually air on both channels, the non-addressable boxes on channel 15 using this system and also on channel 62 using the other method. This channel typically passed a black and white signal but I was able to tune it in better.
@rlt152 Yeah, typically there were two types of PPV -- either achieved through an addressable box (call the PPV # and order, shows up on your TV) or through a positive/negative trap (go down to cable company, get the descrambler trap, attach to your TV and to the cable line). The addressable channels were usually the classic 'scrambled' look, while the channels accessed via traps looked like my clip here.
OH and ANOTHER plus is THE SOUND even though it was scrambled, YOU COULD HEAR IT, so it was like radio. CANT DO THAT SHIT ANYMORE. Damn thats another reason i hate the new age of tv. I used to listen to all the old wrestling shows, i never had money to order, and when i did get lucky and it came in it was nice, but it was like radio to me. SAD i miss those days
IM a wrestling nut, so that was nice. ANYWAYS, with todays digital stuff and satelite TV, those days are gone. NOW the channels you pay for you get and the ones you dont are no longer scrambled, THERE is no more scrambled TV. No chances to get lucky and have it clear. THE CABLE BOX that i had obsolete. NOW if i go to a channel i dont have its a blue screen. Sad OH WELL, if i could relive my childhood id be happy, i had a lot of bad, but the good times ill always have. ESPICALLY the free ppv luck
@RavenMichaels And yet somehow for me, it's less enjoyable now then it was just watching it scrambled then haha :) I guess that's the nice part about being a kid.
They ruined TV now that its digital. im poor ok, always have been always will be. It sucks i make ends meat but barely. As a kid we always had basic cable plus. We had about 55 channels. That was more than enough, and the premium movie channels and ppv were scrambled. IT was nice to sometimes get lucky and those scrambled movie channels would come in clear. I remember one weekend, Viewers choice was clear the whole weekend. Lucky for me it was the weekend of Superbrawl 1993.
@TombstoneInc Great posts! I am glad you got some enjoyment out of this -- nothing was quite as fun as discovering this stuff when you are a kid. It was like stumbling into paradise.
The only time Viewer's Choice ever came in clear for an extended period of time for me was for an airing of the movie Maverick haha. It lasted about an hour of the movie. Parts of Summer Slam 1991 would come in clear randomly through the scrambled signal I remember.
Interesting encryption, almost like they filtered the signal so you get snow. What kind of boxes did you have back then?

That is some pretty good quality for a scrambled chanel, I used to occasionally get other Premium Channels in that quality but never a PPV Channel

@TombstoneInc You've got the internet now, though. It's easy to find streams online and they are always clear...
