I think it would have a tiny bit of cuteness, but not overly bubble gun rainbows, but still with darkness, blood, gore, silent hill feel, a lack of the main character speaking, though others may. Even if anyone speaks, there would or should be some insanity, the voices garbled, scrambled, and at the end, she awakens each time, recording more of the dreams. The ending to the anime may or may not end as the game did, with a just as dark concept, or slightly less!

if Yume Nikki was an anime, it should be totally silent, without any voice work.

... Yes, that would suck, but there is no dialogue in the game, keep it faithful, artistic.

Beside, this sort of giant silence, along with the dark music would basicly do the voice work for what there is to be said.

Although, maybe voice could be add in sort of flashback, give backstory, but doing so, would erase the fan theories.

I honestly don't know what the Japanese lyrics mean, but I enjoy the combination of music and video here. The sequence of images here is TERRIFIC - the combination of real-life images, game shots, and handmade stuff blows my mind. This is the perfect ending/opening for this game, if it were made into an anime. As Seiseii says, Yume Nikki needs a GOOD anime, one that resembles the creepy feel of the game. Not some kawaii cutesy bullshit.

@Abilden The reason why Yume Nikki works is through use of contrast; the kawaii cutesy bullshit conflicts with the estranged and horrific art style of the game. Ofc I don't mean that it should pull a Higurashi. Matsudoki is mute, therefore any speech in the anime would be unfaithful to the source material. It would find it's own ways to make her cute, in a way that would probably be similar to classic cartoons with mute animals.

@rayquaza2lover Eh...if you really think about it, it would never work. The reason the game is so wonderful is because of its ambiguity. You don't understand it, and it's supposed to be that way. An anime would HAVE to have some sort of plot in order for it to get anywhere. Yume Nikki doesn't have one. It doesn't need one.

It's not so much depending on whom you ask, but to what extent you examine the game. Ever wonder exactly WHY it was so freaky? No, not because KIKIYAMA just tossed in shit going "eh this looks creepy", but because the game was created to represent the lives of those who were different. It's a game of empathy.
