And now, well, I tried watching it again, and it pissed me off because of the hippie mentality, and I just find the songs so mediocre. Angel was the only reason I didn't shoot the tv.

And I read that Jonathan Larson died opening night, which does give it kind of an "aww" kind of feel. However. That doesn't mean anything when it comes to a play being good or not. Personally, I thought the lyrics were sloppy and really kind of dull. And although it was cool they tried a "rock opera", which is kind of a new thing...it was still only mediocre to me at least.

What kind of idiot doesn't get not only the seriousness of it, but the wonderful chance of learning about it through a musical performance? I'm not trying to be insulting, but I just don't understand what you mean about how you "don't like the hype"?
