this documentary doesn't mention the monday demonstrations. At it's peak there were 500.000 people demonstrating in Leipzig and other cities. Every Monday... Apart from demonstrations being illegal and many getting arrested. 500.000 is almost 3% of population. In the US that would be 9 million. In a single city, regularly on monday, illegaly and without formal organisation. A few just started it and and it ever grew then. That's why they originally thought about allowing travel in the 1st place

I'll never forget those 2 nights, the 9th and 10th. They didn't play rock music, they played David Hasselhof :D. I still have a large chunk of the wall from just to the side of the Brandenburg gate, it fell into the eastern side after I knocked it off and a guard came over and handed to me with a smile.

@finnstralian I was there also-on Eastern side at a disco at the Palast der Republik. We get message from others and get get message from someone I know in Stasi and Volkspolizei that all DDR citizens may visit Westberlin. Everyone think it was a trick. Then Herr Krenz came out and announced that the Wall has open at certain checkpoints. Next day, I see Westberliner children giving flowers to Vopo and Border guards! What a wonderful moment! Now, the "Wessies" hate us. How times change quick!
