  • I really like PK. This is my fav solo of his.

  • He's so clean its ridiculous

  • that Phil Keaggy! LOL at the guy who got excited about it over the camera: though who can blame him!

  • I'll see you in June Dispatch!!! Keep with the great music

  • What's up with goofball in a dress?

  • @pytheus77007 It's so he can scratch his gentiles easier!!!

  • Phil is the greatest of all times!! Humble yet an absolutly amazing musician and person

  • i can't believe dude mispelled hendrix.

  • WTF!!! the man with the skirt.. LOL

  • check out "Jimmy McCarty" on you tube to hear blues rock greatness and passion

  • phil is an innovator just like hendricks. he definately has his own sound. i've seen him play many times and he never lets me down. amazing and blessed is all i can say.

  • Phil is better then Hendrix, because Hendrix is dead. LOLROL

  • @wmsharpe..Hendrix is not dead..He Lives Within me :)

  • is the other guy wearing a skirt??

  • @phillali Yes, I think he is wearing a skirt, But, HE'S playing with Phil Keaggy; so he must be good, so who cares?

  • @phillali YES. Yes he is. And that's why we love him <3

  • @phillali LOL... It does look like it, doesn't it!! :O)

  • Oh my god. Passerby + Phil Keaggy = Greatest sound I've ever heard.

  • Still don't understand why Dispatch didn't invite Phil to play those Madison Square Garden dates ??He certainly would have added something special to those shows.

  • Comment removed

  • Man, he's just having fun! :)

  • Hendrix acually said in and interview when asked how does it feal being the best guitarist in the world he said phil was the best thats amazing

  • I have heard that same thing. I even know a girl who saw the interview. I have looked for it however and never found it..The interview that is.

  • @Synion21-- Phil talked about it in an interview once, and he said he believes it is just a rumor that Hendrix said that because he can't find any proof from anyone that he said that. I too believe it is just a a lame rumor. But.....dare I say this?,,,,, Keaggy is better than Hendrix. Whoo boy, am I gonna get some mail now....

  • Why not 2 very progressive and innovative guitarists with talent on loan from God? Like Mozart and Beethoven and Bach...who's the best? I'm not sure we can even, nor should we go there. Par excellaunce is par excellaunce!

  • @pazzensutra - Phil says it was a misquote...Phil says what Hendrix actually said was "Phil was the world's shortest guitarist."....it's funny if you know Phil...he's not very tall...about 5'3'' I would guess...maybe 5'4''...Phil responds with this reply sometimes about the Hendrix comment. The better (true) story is about the poor gtr player that was being booed off the stage in a small club in the early 70's..said if anybody thinks they can do better come on up...Phil then took the stage

  • lol, it's true.

  • @Synion21 Never happened

  • I love his tone on the Parker. You dont see him playing it too often. I really like his On The Fly album from a few years ago. Really shows the versatility of the guitar and his playing on it.

  • yor grandma is also yor cousin!

  • Phil Keaggy is my grandma's cousin!

  • im pretty sure phil is like zeus when it comes to guitar gods lol...there are others but zeus birthed them all. =P

  • Birthed them all??? really guy

  • oh yeah.

  • awesome solo, but why is the dude on the left wearing what appears to be a dress?

  • he has his sweater tied about his waiste with his other shirt over it and he has shorts on . .

  • is he for real... how good is this guy?

  • Don't compare Keaggy with this band.

    Keaggy is for real.

If not the best guarist of all time.

    He is Christian.

    So beware of the freaks.

I listen to both secular and Christian.

    This band is Kewl.

    Keaggy,Awesomre guitar dude.

    If not the best

  • Jerry Hahn the guitar God!, like Phil too

  • thank you so much for sharing. i have been a keaggy fan for 20+ years and my kids like Dispatch. the only thing better would be for them to hit my home town.

  • i had never heard of keaggy till i watched this concert...he's the freakin man and they all look like they are having such a great time! :)

  • I'm convinced Phil can play anything!

  • he can lol

  • this blows my mind! i love dispatch, and phill keaggy is my inspiration. i know thats corny, but i dont care.

  • haha pete

  • Gotta love those Parker guitars

  • The guitarist is fabuluous.IThe guy is totally talented. beyond belieif.

    But the skirt guy?

Come on guys, what tradition is this?

  • Comment removed

  • OMG this is incredible. Two of my favorite acts, together on stage. I didn't know this ever happened. Seriously. I don't know how I didn't hear about this sooner.

  • All points bulletin is the name of the CD/ DVD set, if you didn't know. He plays a couple songs with them.

  • He is one of the best in the world hands down.....!!!!

  • dude is fucking nasty..i love dispatch

  • one of my favorite live songs by dispatch by far.

anyone who insulted dispatch is a complete idiot and should do a little research before making rude comments!

  • phil keaggy at a dispatch concert?? who knew?! amazing as ever.

  • Dispatch

  • any idea why that other guitarist is wearing a skirt?

  • yea why is that dude wearing a skirt? Thats wacked.

  • Ask a Scottish Man that and your foot would be stuck in your ass....???? Let your hair down and learn to have fun....

  • whats the name of the song??

  • passerby

  • the Dick Cavett show was where Jimi said that, suppossedly.

  • You commented 10 months ago, but I thought I'd share some information: PK claims Jimi couldn't have known anything about him because by the time Phil got it on Jimi choked to death. They started in '68 when PK was 17. I can't help but think that by age 19 (and not having made it yet) he wasn't the best of his career and he was probably never watched by JHendrix. Take care.

  • cant wait to get my fly!!!

  • clapper ruined it for me

  • Parker guitar!

  • Phil is just sooooooooo nice!!!! He had the bassman spazzing out, he's so nice!

  • Oh, btw, the part after keaggys solo is not a solo at all, just part of the song.

Once again, not trying to hate on keaggy, as hes amazing, but hating on dispatch without knowing their story (for example, the fact that this show is in front of 110,000 people...a bit of a feat for an independent artist), is a little unfair. Their strength is NOT in their musicality (unlike keaggy), but moreso in their songwriting and the ability to reach out to people.

Just saying, check Who Are We Living For

  • Hmmmmm, to say that dispatch, the band that redefined independent music as we know it....is a bunch of no talent goons...awful.

This was at dispatchs final show, after not playing together for about 4 years. Check em out, their music, especially during the times when they were actually playing together, is amazing.

PS: Loved keaggy with 'spatch during this show, its what got me into him. Definitely a different style than dispatch, but a pretty cool combo.

  • This is Phil slumming. Too bad about the quality of the backing band--but he shines. This guitar tone is surprisingly like Glenn Phillips at times. Great stuff--um, except for the backing band. But this is what happens when generations pass...

  • Was this a custom? A skirt?

Phil Keaggy Made this a masterpiece.

But the guy with the skirt?

    Could someone please explain?

  • Chad Urmston. Front man of State Radio.

And the backing band is the best folk/jam band ever: Dispatch. This way I also replied to kc7fys's comment.

  • dood.. they are PARACHUTE SHORTS. not a skirt. haha. and chads like the hottest guy on this earth. and he does not wear skirts :P

  • I can't believe the Galoot in the skirt tries to solo..after Keagy...and if they tried to play reggae like thta in Jamaica...they would'nt make it off the stage !

    Haha...I love it....sign these guys...

  • Comment removed

  • What's he doin' on stage with these no-talent galoots?

  • good solo, if only the camera man wasn't having a seisure.

  • Keaggy's still so unbelievably cool and fantastic - been following him since '75 - I hear a lot of Hendrix influence in Phil's old music (early to mid 70's)

  • dang he's lookin gray lol

  • Is the guy in the red shirt wearing a skirt?

  • yeah, chad wore a skirt/dress thing for the last concert. hardcore.

  • !!WwowW!!-->nice solo!! whats the name of this song??

  • passerby mann

  • thx!!

  • Keaggy's the man! Soooo awesome.

  • Christian gearhead musicians (like me) need heroes too! Ha ha, great solo Phil.

  • è mostruoso!!

  • Buckethead and Satriani could literally clean the floor with this guy. Flame me if you want to, but it'd be just because some Russian dude was right. They could clean the floor with him but Satch and Buckethead aren't those kinda guys.

  • you admit that you are flamebait, but look up Phil's acoustic stuff. Satch, Beck, Chickenhead and whoever else don't stand a chance with innovation against Phil. Yngwie is faster than all of them, but not the innovator that Phil or even Satriani is.

  • pfffff

  • Dave Beegle is another to add to your list of great guitarists, he has played with Phil numerous times. Beegles rock band, Fourth Estate, has some awesome powerhouse soungs too, like Dadgad and The Hammer Song among others.

  • Watching one live solo with a band other than his own just having a good time...sounds like a great way to judge his talents. Bucket and Satriani have nothing on PK's playing and innovation/imprompt playing. He's a master.

  • zach2313- you might get a few more hits if you spell Keaggy correctly in your tags list :)

  • mm whats this song called? and i love you phil :D

  • Passerby, by Dispatch

  • I agree about Keaggy's supernal, supernal and miles-ahead-of-his-time genius, but, as far as saying that he somehow or another made Hendrix the guitarist he was (rather than perhaps heavily influencing him), which is essentially what you are saying, I dunno.

  • what's more amazing about Keagy is how unknown he is - for all of that superabundant musicality and versatility relatively few know about him, although, I suspect, the heavy wieghts of guitardom do.

  • with no keaggy there would have been no Hendrix. Hendrix idolized him and learned from his concerts, Keaggy played "hendrix" style years before Hendrix ever appeared in the music world. Keaggy is king.

  • apparently when asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world, Hendrix said, "I don't know, ask Phil Keaggy."

  • Incorrect, Phil didnt even get his first record deal until Jim was dead. Phil himself doubts Jimi ever heard his music.

  • People confuse the fact that he recorded at Jimi's studio with Jimi endorsing him. Granted, I believe Phil to be the superior guitarist, but it is kinda hard to compare the two: Apples and oranges. I prefer Phil more often than Jimi.

  • He only recorded at Hendrix's studio AFTER Jimi died...

  • Ok, so where did I state he recorded before? Reread my sentence.

Record at Jimi's studio vs. Jimi endorsing him. People very confused.

  • untrue, Jimi and Eric Clapton went to his concert and were both shocked and in awe. People think Jimi was the inovator, when in fact Phil was the real goods. Jimi is good too >.> but he is no keaggy :D

  • I am a huge Hendrix fan, and I've heard no such thing.

    Jimi WAS the innovator though.

even if he wasn't THE innovator, he was the biggest innovator of a handful of innovators.

not trying to be a dick, I am genuinely interested in your source for this info.

  • long time in waiting: Jimi died before being able to be blessed by listening to Phil Keaggy. Keaggy can't be outdown when it comes to innovation/improptu playing, yes, but Hendrix (even according to Phil) had no way of knowing Keaggy's talents.

  • Phil himself says this is a myth. Phil got a lot of his inspiration from Jimi and Eric. I do believe that phil is head and solders above both clapton and hendrix in guitar ability and songwriting though.

  • you are correct sir! I agree!

  • I do too

  • I realize this is really old, but I had to comment. Hendrix died in '70. Keaggy began his career in '68 at age 17. PK himself says he's pretty sure Hendrix never even heard him play and believes the story of the comment is false.

  • Glass Harp was alive and famous while Hendrix was still alive......

  • glass harp was pretty much a local and unknown band in 68-69. Hendrix died in 70. how was glass harp famous in 70? what was their discograohy and what big show had they played at this time?

  • Phily Keaggy is one of the most versatile guitarists of all times...most guitarists that are that amazing at acoustic cant fuckin ROCK like he can.

    AMAZING.

  • hell no not like him lol

  • he deserves to be on the top guitarist list

    extremely underrated phil is

  • Why does Pete always act so damn gay live?

  • I saw him live last night. He kicks ass.

  • my dad knows Phil. Im not kidding, he lives in Nashville, Tennessee!

  • first time iv heard this guy, your so right!

    On a par with Santana

  • phil is my cousin :)

  • Old dude can SHRED. But seriously he picks his notes BRILLIANTLY

  • What?!! Are you an idiot? Before Spears was even a concept Jimmy Hendrix said that Phil Keaggy was of the best guitarists in the world. When you open your mouth you reveal your stupidiy.

  • That's a myth actually. But yeah otherwise you're right.

  • not really a myth jimi did say that but phil is confused as to why he said it because he never played with him

  • phil keaggy was the bass player for jimmy hendrix

  • where did you hear that?

  • you're right I heard wrong...

  • haha

  • The bass player for Jimi Hendrix was Noel Redding and most certainly not Phil Keaggy.

  • hendrix wasn't that great at guitar, btw. Yes, i acknowledge his revolutionizing the electric, but musical wise he wasn't the greatest. Perhaps one of the most influential, though.

  • That is your opinion.

Hendrix was an all around great musician and songwriter, entertainer. One of the best to ever play.

  • He was a great musician and songwriter.

But ever since his time, there have been many others who surpassed his skills. So Hendrix is not necessairly one of the best anymore, but your defintion of "one of the best" prolly differs from mine. But as I said, proabbaly one of the most, if not the greatest, influential guitarist.

  • What are you talking about?

  • i agree with octavarium23

jimi couldnt read music but he did have a great ear

    not the greatest guitar player

but one of the greatest guitarists

most of his music is really easy to play

but phil blows jimi out of the water

  • Okay, you can't compare Jimi Hendrix and Phil Keaggy. Their playing styles and musical styles are completely different. I think there is much Hendrix music you have probably never heard. To say most of his music is really easy to play is a ridiculous statement. To play it like Jimmy did, is not easy. I think Phil is a better guitarist, but If you know Phil you should ask him what he thinks of Jimi Hendrix. Unfortunately Phil's legacy will never even be close to that of Hendrix.

  • phil never really wanted a 'legacy'

he played guitar for the love of music and his religion not much for the fame

jimi did it for the love of music too but he wanted the fame

if phil wanted it back then he would have gotten a 'legacy'

phil is a far better guitarist

    just without a 'legacy'

  • yep, you summed it up perfectly

  • thanks

  • Haha, the bassist came over to Phil when he was doing his solo. I guess he was just too impressed.

  • Pete and Chad almost always come together in the middle of the stage and jam a bit together and usually jump around a lot. It's not much different than usual dispatch it's just that Keaggy was there in the middle.

  • Ive seen Dragonforce a few times and am a huge fan.Ive also seen Phil Keagy 8 times over the last ten years and let me tell ya,I've seen Phil pull off shit that would make Hermon Lee choke on his egg foo yong!!! Hermon Has got a long way to go.

  • dont ever compare anyone talented to herman lee, especially phil keaggy

  • herman li's style is totally different. U guys are comparing apples to oranges. Herman plays fast scales, and phil plays music. Phils fingerings are difficult, but herman plays wicked fast. They both appeal to different people, but i prefer phil =)

  • herman plays the same tempo through most if not all of his songs and thats not difficult at all to do

    but phil

changing his tempo so so much

listen to the album 'glass harp live at carnegie hall'

some of the best solos ive ever heard is on that album

  • +keaggy making history

    - annoying clapping

    +dear lord, that is sick

  • did not know he liked parker fly guitars.

  • I learned to play guitar listening to the Emerging record which has all but disappeared from the face of the earth. I wore out a lot of needles learning those chops. I know one other guitar player on that same caliber (who went on to fame a few years after this) and at a keaggy concert my friend played keaggy toughest licks. Keaggy said "You play my stuff pretty well, let's here some of your stuff now". . .. Burn

  • Who are you speaking of?

  • ooooohh that's a TOTAL burn.

  • I think my dad has that record, vinyl of course. It's a great album!!

  • that's Phil okay, he's very philosophical once you actually speak to him in person. And also, one is not a musician before he is playing what he himself creates.

  • no offense, but please dont ever think because some mediocre player can nickel and dime through a keaggy solo makes them a guitar player. just the name alone should be mentioned with the likes of page, hendrix, etc. TONE my friend, TONE and TALENT

  • your a fuckn idiot....its not about learnin a solo and playin it....its about doin it in the moment in front of over 120,000 people....and you obviously know nothing about playin

  • Oh, then you must know Li and Totman, from Dragonforce. It isn't just the technique that makes Phil's stuff hard to play...

  • I've seen my share of guitar players, but Herman Li is by far among the worst. He has bad tone, and his playing is very sloppy (I've seen kids that can do better) and unmusical. Phil Keaggy has both musicality and chops in abundance.

  • Why is his playing so sloppy, then? He is musically very limited (he knows a couple of scales and the minor seventh arpeggio), and he can't pull it off live. As Ron Thal put it, you need to be better than what you play, and Herman Li definitely isn't. He may not be the worst, but I have more respect for Jack Johnson than Herman Li. Why? He plays music that he can actually play (and he'd probably humiliate Herman Li on an acoustic guitar, anyway)

  • I agree with gk3278 but if these people can play that solo then have them post it on You Tube. Let's see it.

  • Guitar GENIUS for GOD !!!!!!

  • AMEN!!

  • Wonder-fingers Keaggy!! Been followin' his stuff since '74 - he keeps gettin' better, AND back then he was already the best versatile guitarist!! Thanks for posting this!!!!!!!!

  • he played at a high school by my house on thursday and he was so amazing... he isnt a bad singer either

  • Phil Keagy has always been a huge inspiration to me, since I was a wee lad.

  • God bless Phil, always an inspiration.

  • Go Uncle Phil. Greetings from your favorite Nephew Cameron

  • go cousin phil

    greetings from a cousin

    Andy

  • greatest guitar player ever.

  • i was there the show was amazing

  • do you realize this concert was in front of 120,000 people?

    Lasted like 3 1/2 hours.

People came from all over the world to see this band that you say is "crap".

Dispatch pretty much pwns your life.

  • man shut the fuck up

  • why? i'm just saying this music is poor, only keaggy save this...the number of people don't say anything, still a poor music with a great solo...

  • how is this poor?

  • in five minutes, anyone who play a basic of guitar can play this music (except for the keaggy solo) and you know that. if you enjoy, sorry...

  • I learned a number of songs in 5 minutes. Jimi Hendrix little wing, purple haze, I shot the sheriff, ect. Just because you can learn a song in 5 minutes doesn't mean its bad or that some dickhurt asshat like you can ever dream of making it up. Yes Passerby has an easy progression but just TRY to learn Bridges, or cut it ya match it.

  • i don't say its bad, just say it's poor, if this guys have technique to play some more, plz..do it.

  • also not all music is about "Crazy guitar solos" or "Speed metal". All it takes to solo is knowlege of a scale or two and some basic finger placement. However some of the greatest music utilizes strumming patterns and progressions. Dispatch is the master of patterns.
