  • I love the sound of yours <3

  • Sounds awful

  • any news as to where to buy one of these as i am to lazy to make one?

  • @medusasworldofstone Hi! Check eBay. I saw someone was selling them there a few months ago. (c:

  • Sounds awesome! Reminds me of Theivery Corporation...

  • my toaster makes a better noise than that

  • how you get it??

  • lol

  • groovy

  • not much ring to it though, nice try

  • What I've found from videos is that the drum doesn't have any attack. :( For really high notes, you need to hit them hard to actually get them to ring. And when you hit them hard, the sound from your thumb or finger or whatever overpowers the ring of the note. Have you tried using a mallet or 2 with the drum? I'd love to get a hang, but the hank looks neat, too. :(

  • @justinc18 It's not that you have to hit them hard, it's that people aren't hitting them right. Higher notes need to be hit closer to the edge to get a proper sound.

  • Cool!

  • jeeah

  • It's natural. But I used the knuckle of my thumb to get it. It doesn't come with just a finger tip.

    (c:

  • how did you get the note it the middle? or is that just natural on the tank? Good job by the way haha

  • i made one on my own and without any tuning at all and it sounds great! exept it took me about 3 jigsaw blades and 4 or 5 drill bits( whatever theyre called) thanx!

  • Probably jigsaw blades. I don't think you'd use a drill bit- funnily enough they go on drills lol

And you'd want to cut rather than drill little holes.

  • what a lovely sound!

  • Well thank you so kindly! (c;

  • if u like bucket drumming......type in Larry Write.....is he a beast!

  • Is there a site where I could learn how to make one?

  • Fairly easy! Do a YouTube search for "making a propane tank drum" user 'theliftedloraxshow'. Also search for "Dennis Havlena" who is the inventor. He has blue prints for the Hang on his main site. (Address available on his YouTube profile.) Good luck!

  • Wasinnyo!! How do you make these?

  • thank you

  • @nreich

    hey

where can you get an empty propane tank?

  • hey, I know the person who homemade these first was really good at how he did it, but don't you think you could replicate a real hang drum with something closer to the size and shape of a charcoal grill lid, the simple ones, they look just about perfect for the size and shape, and end at about 45 degrees... just a thought.

  • a nang drum is mae from a 55 gallon drum hammered out into the bowl shape or at least the steel pans are

  • Thank you very kindly! I hope you find the motivation needed to do the work. Well worth it!

    (c;

  • I just find the sound so soothing......I've seen all the utbe vids......I should like to make my own one....

    Nice one mate!

    x

  • ur drum out of tune...

  • True. Got some ideas how I can tune it??? I really do want to work on that.

  • having no experience with these drums, i cant say much, but you might try more rubber chords.

  • Heehee. That actually has a rubber chord around it already. I think I need to cut the tongues just a bit more, but I'm hesitant since it's a once way street. Maybe someday. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • You need to file the ends of some of the tongues, and make them more round. That will get more tone out of it. Then you will be able to discriminate between pitches a little better, so if you do need to lengthen one, you will be able to do so with a little more ease.

  • sounds like you mights get better sound on the base if you would use tip of your finger on it rather than the bony part of your thumb, sounds great!

  • Thanks! ..and you're right. I just like the volume of it tho. Danke!

  • this is tottaly awsome!!!

  • [grins] Well thank you very much!!

  • How do I get instructions on how to make one?

  • nreich gave a link to Dennis' profile. For his hank drum videos, the descriptions point to his website where instructions are found.

  • Even though this doesn't sound like a proper Hang, it still sounds great, especially from the 2 minute mark and is a great result :) This vid and Dennis's vids have inspired me to have a go at making one. Thanks and great Hank :D

  • Thank you very much! I think folks that criticize the hank by saying "That doesn't sound at all like a hang!" just don't get it... It's not a hang. If a $50 propane tank could sound exactly like a hang - hang's wouldn't be selling for $6000 on eBay. $6000 or $50; the hank is good enough for me. Good luck with your hank!!

  • this is amazing, im thinking of making hank (propane tank hung) i have the tank but just need to learn how to make do you think you could show me i would be very greatfull

    thanks from Dean

  • Sure. Contact me via YouTube and I'll be happy to answer questions. ...send pictures or video if needed. Regretably, I never video'd me making the hank but I can try to replicate if needed. Thanks for the comment!

  • how do you make these, whats inside?

  • that sounds hideous. nothing like a hang drum

  • duh

  • did you strip all the paint off the tank? it looks nice

  • Thanks! Actually, I tried stripping it down with a wire brush on a hand drill, but it didn't put a scratch in it. So I just took some Krylon flat black interior-exterior spray paint and hoped. It adhered very well!

  • Way cool! Nicely done too! Yeah, Dennis Havlena developed this version of the Hang, sometimes called the "Hank". He has many other instruments that he'sw developed and has plans for as well... check out his vids!

  • Thank you thank you thank you! "Hank"...hadn't hear that. Gotta start using it. E~x~c~e~l~l~e~n~t~!

  • Do you mean Daniel Havlena produced the propane tank version of the hang? Because the original was developed in Switzerland by Rohner and Schärer of Bern...nice job!

  • Danke!

  • very cool. Wish the one I Made looked as nice.

  • Thank you very much! Just buy a can of black spray paint and have at it. I'm surprised at how well it's staying on!
