If it had taken place between MGS2 and 4, the outcome would've been determined from the beginning, so they change it to take place after MGS4 to give them more freedom with story. But honestly, that's BS. Now it makes no fucking sense whatsoever. I mean they're probably gonna explain it in Rising, but they REALLY should've sticked with the story between MGS2 and 4.

I actually always liked him as a character. Snake's story is finished, and they shouldn't mess with it anymore. It's complete. but Raiden as a character still has potential. by Solidus Snake, who practically served as his father after he killed Raiden's parents. Solidus wanted a similar cyborg ninja to Grey Fox, and so Raiden's head and spine were removed from his old body. His new body was given artificial white blood and incredible mobility and athleticism. This is how you see Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 4.

FYI his katana is a high-frequency blade, simply meaning that it vibrates at increadibly high speeds so cutting through things is much easier.

First of all, the cyborg ninja from previous Metal Gear Solid games is Grey Fox, not Raiden. Grey Fox's true identity is Frank Jaeger, a former member of FOXHOUND. His body was blown apart by a landmine, but pieces of his body - mostly internals - were gathered and sent to a doctor for his gene thereapy experiments. And so, Grey Fox was born.
