  • loves this but don't like the hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo

and the people in the background in the chorus when she says blackout, they go "wooooahhh"

  • is she the vocals on "titanuim" ?

  • @JackWillssLovee No she isn't.. Sia does the vocals on Titanium.

  • this is so boring

  • Pretentious crap

  • @waynepunkdude I don't understand, why is it pretentious?

  • hoo hoo, hoo hoo, hoo hoo, hoo hoo hoo

  • I wouldn't mind being the person who put the blindfold on her

  • she's coming to ROCK WERCHTER 2012 wohoo BELGIUM

  • Lana Del Rey < ANNA CALVI

    What a fucking song!

  • @mlittleee I completely agree. Anna Calvi sings with so much passion, Lana Del Rey just sounds and looks bored. I can't wait to see Anna Calvi live!

  • @justineem15 - They're just different styles of music. To compare them would be the same as comparing a hammer to a spanner. Both are from the same group but serve very different purposes. I happen to like both of them. I don't see any logic in comparing them at all. Lol... as if you can ONLY listen to one type of music or ONE singer. What poor world that would be!

  • Love the reverb guitar & western vibe, very similar to Rodeoclash.

And I agree that Lana Del Rey has a long way to go before she can be taken seriously.

  • I was watching a Lana Del Rey video minutes ago...and i just realized that both artists have a "Lynchian" universe... even if their music is quite different... there's an invisible link somewhere between both artists... but Anna Calvi his more into Rock n roll music than Lana...

But if i have to choose one ...it will be Anna Calvi... no bullshit , no exagerated hype...

I'm quite surprised to be (one of) the only to talk bout it... it's maybe because most people who knows Lana don't know Ana

  • @BohemianConspiracy Motherfuck Lana del Rey. She should not even be in the same conversation as Anna Calvi or especially David Lynch.

  • Comment removed

  • @BohemianConspiracy I apologize for the profanity, but please don't bring up legitimate artists with actual, influential bodies of work and compare them to someone who doesn't even seem to be planning to release an album. I have no problem with Lana del Rey, I just think she's miles away from Lynch and Calvi. You should check out Chelsea Wolfe or Mount Eerie's latest album for a good Lynchian vibe.

  • @minusculemajuscule haha! Too true

  • this is fucking cool

  • Great artist. And she looks so Evita's in this video!

  • b-side

    but good.

  • una maravilla...definitivamente lo mejor del 2011

  • I will get Mojo . I hear it is also good.

  • NME is the only magazine that brings new and excellent music from around the world, anyone over the age of 15 does not care about Selena Gomez or Bieber!

  • @2010peters Fuck NME, you want MOJO man. NME is a pretty pop-leaning magazine these days, alot of the bands/artists you find in there now are just commercial whores. I'd recommend MOJO, it's got a lot on older artists, but it still picks out the best of the best of new musicians too, and it spans every genre, the only requirement is that the sounds are good. And no, I don't work for MOJO lol.

  • This is a really amazing song!

  • very cool

  • ethinicity=ethnicity

  • Thanks to kcrw I know this

  • How beautiful was that !!

  • what is a guitar she is playing? is it bass or regular elektric guitar?

  • What's with this British vs. American music? I love music period and in my opinion there is no country better than another in terms of music. How can any music lover make such a statement. Music = love.

  • @TransmissionFilms Music is feeling, not just love. It's a way to release feeling. Whether they are anger, lust, love, hate, fear or apathy.

  • @TransmissionFilms because from america comes all the shitty pop music ;-)

  • wow i really like this!

  • I need a buddy to go to Laneway Festival. Dammit I wanna see this woman so bad

  • Dear Anna Calvi, As a 40 year old man, I have been to a lot of gigs, and am quite blase about live music these days. You have absolutely blown me away tonight . I felt utterly mesmerised through the entire gig. I still feel like I have been enchanted by a witch. Incredible. If you do not become a megastar there is no justice in this world.

And people actually watch and like X factor . Unbelievable.

  • Somehow this reminds me of The Smiths' There is a Light... Epic sort of feeling...

  • ST JEROME'S LANEWAY FESTIVAL!!!!!!

  • @winneyh omg see you there!!

  • Amazing song and a great album, deserved to win the Mercury Prize imo.

Look forward to hearing more after they get over the mad tour they've been on.

  • Anna is under Brian Eno's wing. Soon she may appear alongside the likes of another alt-Rock Brit group we all love -Coldplay.........I can see Anna sing a duet with Chris Martin now............................

  • @LiberTBo What a sick thought.

  • @damkring -What a sick comment from someone who knows absolutely NOTHING!!!

  • @LiberTBo How on earth are Coldplay an 'alt-Rock' group?

  • @damkring WhY don't you look up your own information asshole? From Wikipedia : Coldplay are a British alternative rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. What would you classify Coldplay as?

  • Holy shit she's amazing. Her VOICE. ARGH the tone and texture and oh my gooooooooooood

  • new diva

  • very good song and artist, the siren chorus reminds me so much of the chorus in Siouxsie and the Banshees´song " Candyman", I am sure she must have heard it

  • best thing in YEARS

  • this is my aoty more than likely

and I gotta say, I'm impressed, a female singer that doesn't need to act like a hooker to make a video

  • Excuse me, but those moanings remind me of Britney's worst.

  • Should have won the Mercury Prize.

  • @coolbritannia1979 No Best new Artist nomination Grammy's?. Very Very tough competition but album of the year in my book

  • @coolbritannia1979 Do you think ? I listened to Anna Calvi's whole record and i didn't find anything original in. All has already be heard before and in a better way by Polly Jean or others. not bad, but nothing particularly special here, to my mind...

  • I LOVEEEE YOUUUUUUU ANNA

  • If you dudes can get past the fact that she's obviously stunningly beautiful, she also happens to be an amazing guitar player. This video shows none of that. Kick ass song though...love it. Love you Anna!

  • This film has the same influences as Anna Calvi - check it out

    Black Biscuit - Official Trailer

  • She reminds me of a female Jeff Buckley

  • She sounds a lot like the lead singer from the band Girl in a Coma.

  • brilliant lyrics throughout

  • the muse with much better vocals :P

  • Muy bueno, me gustó.

    Saludos desde Argentina! ejejejeje

  • You may feel the same thing when you see the Aleph.

  • what the... black this..

    im out

  • I love the way she snarls as she sings.

  • i can honestly say now that british music is way better than american music

  • @rakgtr Anna Calvi is one of few examples, that british music is still alive, but for sure is not way better than american music. wake up! (and i am not an american)

  • @vtelenie You should wake up.. rakgtr has a point.. There are numerous examples the Brits simply do it better (and I'm not British)! I think there are more unique artists among them, the music is more real, more powerful.. Best rock bands def come from GB and so on... But well, everybody has their own opinion so no hard feelings:)

  • @13darceygirl couldn't agree more!

  • @rakgtr quite petty dont you think?

  • @rakgtr

British music has been better than American music for about 40 years now, idiot.

  • @rakgtr Thats certainly not reflected in worldwise music sales In the top 40 selling albums 10 million unis were sold by Brit artisis worldwide whereas American artists sold over 56 million units in worldwide sales. Better? That my be your personal opinion, bur otherwise its just not true.

  • @LiberTBo is it really how many copies a record sells that determines whether or not is good? cause in that case I might be listening to terrible music.

  • @rakgtr British music was always better dear

  • @XXXkisssssXXX

    I'm agree!!!

  • @rakgtr It has always been.

  • @rakgtr Absolutely ludicrous assumption. What does ethinicity have to do with making good music?

  • @rakgtr I can honestly say, stop classifying music. Notes aren't British, or Indian, or Mexican. Love isn't from a country. Feelings don't have borders. Wake up.

  • @kortag oof, I think I just threw up a little.

  • @kortag Fulsome sentiments indeed, but quite wrong. Nature and environment stamp their indelible mark; how could they not? Especially so when the music breaking new ground.

  • @kortag that's true...there's no frontiers...

The most serious scientists say that all forms of life on earth came from other galaxies... Love is an Alien...

  • @kortag Good point, cheesily made.

  • @kortag so you reckon all the music shops should just throw CD's etc into a pile in the middle of the floor rather than trying to help someone find new music they might like?

  • @kortag but certain styles do dominantly come from certain regions.

  • @kortag Hippy. ;-)

  • @kortag that is fucking deep man

  • @kortag That sounds like something a Paki would say.

  • @borjon23 That sounds like something a cunt would say.

  • @kortag Mexico has borders. Not that people stay within them

  • @maximusbiddo

    lmao

  • @rakgtr YEAHHHH

  • Comment removed

  • @rakgtr it has always been that way.

  • @rakgtr : when it comes to "british" music, there's only the music from England relevant.

There's no good music from Scotland and music from Wales is just the worst crap.

One can't even say that England has good music because all the music from the North (Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield) is so totally shitty. Bands from Birmingham and Bristol are to neglect.

The last 40 years only London bands were really good and here only the one from London's West End. East End bands are worst crap!!

  • @MrMaralisa with regard to your (totally uninformed and incorrect) comment about music from the North: Arctic Monkeys? Oasis? The Smiths? Joy Division?

I don't think you've really thought this through.

  • @duckandcover225 : It's considered to be an answer @rakgtr who claims that music has something to do with geography (or anything like that), that "better" or "worse" music has something to do with er, meridians (or anything like that).

He's been so confusing to me that I searched for revenge and tried to confuse him.

Sorry, if I did confuse you, this was not my intention...

  • @MrMaralisa Um. The Smiths are from Manchester, The Arctic Monkeys are from Sheffield, The Beatles are from Liverpool and all of those artists are hugely successful. I don't think that your argument stands up.

  • @MrMaralisa and Australian bands eat alive weak british soft serve ice cream

  • @MrMaralisa London bands are overrated.

  • @Starkardur : OVER bands are way too London rated! - A fact nobody can deny.

  • @MrMaralisa Ishall have to disagree with you unfortunately, for the sake of mankind, that is. If in fact "London" music is so superior, how do you explain The Beatles being from Liverpool? There are many more people who would disagree with you than not.

  • Dark, Creative and beautiful.

  • she and selah sue are the best new female singers of years to come, and also the most beatiful all around

  • This music makes me feel 20 years younger

  • I'm in love!

  • Mi sà che mi son innamorato.

  • Yet more evidence that all the good music is not in the past. Adele, Florence now her. UK women strike again what i going on over there? Even the pop singers coming out of there like Jessie J,Marina, Eliza etc are really good

  • @edkollin Amercian women have been ruined by hip hop

  • @edkollin Probably it's because British labels have more of a heart and an open mind when it comes to nurturing talent and don't force them to conform to a certain sound/look for marketability, which is quite a contrast to American record labels that are just greedy and absolutely nothing else. But there are unique female talents who do have some mainstream exposure, Regina Spektor and Janelle Monáe coming to mind.

@top20modernrock What the fuck are you talking about?

  • Lovely song

  • People are raving about her and I just don't get it :( Wish she would do something less artsy is all. :x

  • This gave me a heart erection.

  • She sounds a bit like Chrissie Hynde

  • This is so amazing O______O

  • Oh...

  • A wonderful surprise!

  • amazing song+++

    with respect from russia

  • her voice is even more beautiful and powerful when heard live. she's amazing and really gorgeous.

  • meh

  • When I first heard this song, it blew all the other stuff on the radio away. What a song writer. The song speaks volumes about where she's coming from. Years of hard work and of honing her craft. This is the culmination of a lifetimes hard work....Sublime!

  • @fennessy1980 I agree entirely, she is incredible, and she's only on her debut album- think how much there is to come from her and her talent!! So exciting! To be this profound at aged 28 on a first album really blows me away.

  • @librarianscales

True true. She's gonna be huge.

  • Female Elvis anyone?

  • GLASTONBURY!!!

  • I'm captivated by this small lady ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • such a nice voice, the sort of voice you really do remember.

  • I saw this video in was back in the eighties. Yeah and the railroad is a trip...not!!!

  • Brilliant.

  • 13 people prefer white-out

  • search for ADELE FT. BUSTA RHYMES!!

  • This song is really amazing! ^^

  • I love, I love I love....

  • @IROT1334 No, Im not insane, nor am I a pathetic Director. Im sorry my comment seemed to make you angry. I study film and see some similarities in some I've watched by those directors and this video, that's all. And just because something is a music video doesn't mean it should be de-valued being so, it's still an art and created, and room for expression. : ) I think Anna is wonderful, I hope you love her songs, if not the video.

  • i'd bang her

  • Good singing, nice melody but blatant Muse ripoff.

  • @JazzAd Anna Calvi has more talent in her little finger than the blokes from Muse. So, I think we can let her have the 'musical similarities' card.

  • @Leinsatiableone It's your opinion and I'm fine with it, although I suggest to discuss the matter in 10 years, when she's accomplished more than a debut album and a one time hit.

  • @JazzAd Yes, fair point. However, most musicians nowadays are eclectic with their musical tastes. Therefore, it is only natural for any musician to draw influences from others.

  • @JazzAd and Muse is original??

  • Simply fantastic sound, voice, music, and even the 'minimalistic' video!... I love this! My only regret is when MTV Italy air this track, they do not show singer's name or track title... I found it only by chance! But definitely worth the pain of searching!

  • Beautiful. Real. Just SO great.

  • My two cents?

Love the song, awesome voice and musicianship.

Would love to see her live as apparently the performances are a wonder to behold and the songs evolve into a different beast.

The video is very good, but her miming is horrible. It's like she's imagining shes performing at Wembley

  • Song: Awesome

Video: Amateur. Horrible, just horrible direction sprinkled with a few intriguing ideas.

  • awesome in the true sense of the word, truly awe-inspiring

  • i still cannot quite believe how incredibky good this song is... I'm tempted to say something a bit extreme like it's one of the two or three best songs of the last twenty years...

my favourite songs of the last twenty years:

    the ship song,

    into dust,

    the dancer,

    exit music

    kein trink wasser

    please tell me yours....

  • @evelyneverettgreen This an extremely hard dilemma!

    One- U2

    Grace- Jeff Buckley

    Neighborhood #1- Arcade Fire

    Nightswimming -REM

    Stranger- Noah & the Whale

    Transatlanticism- Death Cab for Cutie

    Into My Arms- Nick Cave

  • @swarmmaster thanks- there's one there i don't know- transatlanticism- and I'll check it out right away. Really good stuff!

  • All the artists on Domino label are superb!!!

  • @water4sure Arctic Monkeys are the best Domino label but yeah i agree ;)

  • @LenBob7 Disagree, Panda Bear or Animal Collective.

  • @theax120790 Female Richard Hawley?

  • I saw her playing this on Jools Holland last night and I'm really impressed :) it's not normally my kind of thing but I love it! It sounded better live though... she's a damn good singer!

  • Absolutely outstanding piece of work.

  • This is an astounding song/presentation.The pure intensity of her singing, yet so nuanced against the fullness of her guitar sound is ,well, amazing.I can hear why Nick Cave and Brian Eno are so crazy for her stuff.Wonderful.Some won't like it (a few dislikes),but that's OK,this is unique work, not pleasing to all and everyone.

  • where is that beauty? i don't see any
