  • Best performance of this tune

  • Not something you show up to a metal gig with

  • How in the fuck do you string that som bitch?

  • what is this instrument?

  • @xjoshx18 It is called a theorbo, or "chitarrone" (Italian for "big guitar"). It belongs to the family of the lute, from which it differs for being significantly larger, for being strung with single strings instead of double "courses" (the lute is strung almost like the modern 12-string guitar), and also by the so-called "re-entrant" tuning, i.e. the first two strings are tuned lower than the third.

  • @SchweizerKatze A greatest instrument, really thanks for description >.<

  • what is that lute called? it is divine

  • nylon sound - wonder what it would sound like using gut strings

love Piccinini. (you could 'tag' him)

  • its sounds like a piano when you close your eyes.

  • bellissimo!

  • That's amazing, but I'd hate to have to tune it. lol.

  • sounds like Zefiro Torna by Monteverdi, nice play :D

  • incredible piece. Dunno why but i started imagining it in an acoustic guitar and with lyrics...

  • @nyckelwound -this type of muzac should be played on outdoor loud-speakers and given time to resonate through the air!!excellent vibratones and natural nueance and carries well in theatres as well......so go buy some loud speakers and get cracking mate!!

  • I absolutely loved that, thanks for sharing.

  • At least 6 people dislike. Is there anyone that can explaining why? I vote 14 *.

  • Nice, Tommie! I must say I've never heard this piece played so fast, but your way with it is light and it works. Thank you.

  • I love this. Very well played and a good choice of piece to play!

  • where would you take lessons for that O.o

  • i wouldnt carry that in case in a airpoert might think you have a gun

  • I want one! I'm sold.

  • absolutely beautiful... favourited, added to playlist, liked and commented this video truly deserves it

  • @sd42790

Bach also always borrowed materials from other composers.

You could check a book named Bach the Borrower by Carrell Norman to learn more about it.

  • I couldn't help but notice that this piece is remarkably similar to this ciaconna by Cazzati: watch?v=ZFMUuFrO4b4

After a little Wikipedia research, I found that Piccinini came a good deal before Cazzati. Baroque plagiarism perhaps?

  • @sd42790 Baroque composers borrowed from one another all the time. It was considered a way of honoring a person. At least, it was common in the late Baroque period. Cf. Bach's organ concerto: watch?v=GimqpQrmMkI with Vivaldi's violin concerto: watch?v=mHD70QEo6YI

  • you're a f*cking genius

  • That is a MONSTER lute, just saying.....

  • hermosa pieza y muy bien ejecutada

  • Don't play so fast Tommie, give every note it's importance ! And look at the okd pictures : put your pinkie behind the bridge ... that will result in a completly different sound and way of playing. Anyway, you're talented !!!

  • GOOOOD JOB! :)

  • veeery nice!

  • Never mind lol, I saw the video of him explaining the instrument.

  • Wow... I really like the sound of this instrument. And he played it really well, but I have one question, how do you play the lower strings? It looked like there was no fretboard below them?

  • This is so delightful!

  • im going to play a little chaconne, ON THIS HUGE MOTHER OF AN INSTRUMENT!!!!

  • wau!! Suena impresionante!! hermoso instrumento!

  • This may be the greatest thing I've heard today.

  • outstanding !

  • Wow! Tommie Andersson it's so beautiful! I thouth Piccinini is bed musician but I was wrong! Thanks to you I know the Truth

  • that must be a big case

  • Aww I do love this, such a warm, welcoming sound. Thank you.

  • Wow! This is just lovely and beautiful! I love the 'beat' you have Tommy.

    Tack!

    Per-Olov

  • Wonderful playing. What a dream instrument, too. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • It is a pity Τυχη did not also bring you humility.

  • what category is this music under medieval?renaissance?

  • Late Renaissance - Early Baroque, I think.

The composer lived between 1566-1638 (according to Wiki)

  • OMG, how tall is that lute?!

  • Bravissimo

  • great job i just wish it had more bass

  • hej tommie! härligt att ligga i soffan med hörlurar och se/höra dig spela på detta fantastiska instrment! Kan man nå dig här? har du en e-postadress? hälsar karin hedbrant

  • This is my new favorite tune. Love it.

    Beautifully played.

  • Stunningly beautiful instrument!

    And thepPlaying without fail.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • they can't touch a lute family instrument , is like a violin player who wants to play a guitar, they just will fail because they don't know how to play it , to see a real virtuoso player search Paul O'dette.

And there are not high maintenance cost.

expensive instrument?? about 4000-5000 euro like a concert guitar made by a good luthier.

  • Just perfect

  • Nice! That's a cool instrument.

  • When at 0:22 the music starts, it was wonderfull :).

He is a talented player :)

  • Actually it starts at 0:23.

  • Isnt it at 0:23,5 ?

  • Well at appx 22.9 he moves and at around 23.5 you can hear the first note, so yeah, guess your right.

  • did you saw his coment ?

  • oh god the only thing i didnt liked is that it was too short

  • Gorgeous stuff. Lovely playing and a fine instrument. First heard this played by Jakob Lindberg many, many years ago! Thanks for posting...

  • Nice try

  • Imagine shredding on a lute.. 13 strings sweep, now that'd be awesome. This is also cool, are the 5 strings at the bottom only to be played open? There is no fretboard behind them.

  • I'm so amazed and jealous. I *wish* I could play such a beautiful instrument so beautifully. Fantastic job.

  • I like SOOOOOO much that piece, so beautiful. And Tommie andersson is the therobist who played it best on youtube!

  • The long strings create a VERY interesting sound, it's not dumb at all. It's just not functional for todays music.

  • Calm down, I said it looks dumb, didnt say it sounded bad.

  • How does it look dumb?

  • Well stupid or dumb would refer to something that doesn't fulfill a purpose. Ugly is something else. I was wondering why you thought it was dumb. I am not trying to be insulting.

  • I can't even get my mind around what it would take to write music for such a complex intsrument.

  • i cont knew this indtrumet but is good

  • beautiful!!!

  • it´s sad that such instruments are not played regularly today anymore

beautiful tune and very well played

  • They are played regularly.

  • i mean that they don´t be used in the popular music today

  • Yes well; if you want to great music for it look for cds by hopkinson smith or rolf lislevand, maybe some paul odette. search 'theorbo' or chitarrone or theorbe on youtube to find more.

  • What a nice tune, like it more everytime I hear it!! (And what a GREAT instrument) Thanks Tommie!!

  • Exellent playing great Piccinini! Thank you for shre!
