  • This isn't fake. Difficult to do but not overly hard to learn. We used to get taught this sort of thing for rugby all the time. Not sure I could do it with a ball flying over my head, turning and then STILL having time to aim the lateral!

  • it wasn't any sort of lateral, the ball was headed out of the back of the endzone, someone jumped out the back without stepping out (your only out of play when your foot touches out of bounds) and bounced it back to the guy who caught it in the endzone. He never really had possesion, but even if he did, you're correct in it would have been a backwards lateral.

  • Technically, the first guy didn't even have possession of the ball so he couldn't have lateraled it. It was more of a tip.

  • No, a pass in the air can be batted in any direction, unless it's a backwards pass batted forward by the team who threw it. This was perfectly legal.

  • forgive me if i've got this wrong cos i dont know the exact rules to american football, but surely if he catches the ball in the zone its and he's not out its a touchdown so he didn't need to lay it off. and if he wasn't in play the ball was out and the score shouldn't count or is it just the initial good catch that amazes everyone and not the lay off that followed?

  • i believe he jumped in bound caught it and laid it off to his team mate because he would've landed out of bounds. think of it as a tipped ball and another player catching it.
