I was part of the ships company,i remember how proud i felt after planes launched from the deck of the Super Sara got those scum who hijacked the achille lauro.

@1963TNT Amen! I was on the Sara then. I remember getting ready to go on liberty in Guam, while sitting in the Light Shop. They passed make preps for underway....we thought they'd goofed, then the first night transit of a CV thru the Suez, that was a crazy time....do it again in a heart beat!!

Yes I remeber the Kadafi event. I were attached to va-85 the black falcons.

This had to been after the Kadafi ordeal because the helicopter behind the island is flat gray. . I was in HS-3 and stayed up for 48 hours painting it in case of rescue mission for downed pilots. We even had a mount made for 50 cal machine gun installed. You will notice other helos were gloss white and gray.
