thats how they got tagged love metal. journalist had a hard time fitting them into a genre. ville liked the term and then named the following album after it.

On most non-fan websites they're labelled as both "gothic rock" and "alternative rock" - both of which are ample terms. It doesn't matter what the band themselves think about it, genres have specific parameters etc. Eg, Cannibal Corpse couldn't just say they were "pop rock", since they're clearly death metal - even if they denied it and refuted it for their entire career.

Not everyone likes HIM. i've heard someone saying that they liked HIM untill they realized that the lyrics of their songs are based on the exact same thing but with different words (wich they are.. mostly about lost love and stuff).

but i do like the way they express that feeling. i love HIM

Of course not everyone likes HIM :| You could say the same of everything. I don't even pay attention to the lyrics really - I mean sometimes they suck, sometimes they're quite clever or eloquent, but I only really care about the sound of the song. HIM have a unique sound, which is why I enjoy them. They're the only rock band I listen to, actually - the rest of my music is ambient and electronica.
