  • The Vintage Modern cab has the same speakers as the Hendrix cab, but they are different speakers than the 1960AX.

If you want to save some money on a GREAT 2x12 or 4x12 cab, check out Sour Mash cabinets. They will build with your choice of colors and grillcloth, and they use WGS speakers. Check out my Reinhardt Sentinel videos - I have a Sour Mash 2X12 with WGS Green Berets (their version of the 25 watt greenback). Great build quality and it looks and sounds awesome!

  • I looked and it said that the Vintage/Modern Cab has the same type greenbacks that the Hendrix Cab had. Your's sounds good. I might get a Whitebox 2x12 or 4x12 and put some Greenbacks in that instead of getting a Marshall Cab. Whichever is less expensive. LOL

  • I like this cab and the Marshall TV Cab with the Greenbacks. This cab is supposed to have the GB speakers that came in the Hendrix Special Cab right?

  • My cab is a 1960AX. It has the Celestion 25 watt greenback speakers, but they are not the Hendrix speakers. They are the standard 25 watt greenbacks.

  • Oh I wish I was a catfish, baby!! hell yeah rock on brother!

  • Right on, brother!

  • why change the pickups. What were the 57 original pickups like? no good? whats better about the fralin pickups over the original ones. im looking at one of these strats, and have a Jimi Hendric Super100JH amp, so wanting the best sound i can get ofcourse.

  • Lindy Fralin does a great job with his pickups. I like this set because the middle pickup is reverse wound, so the 60 cycle hum is cancelled in the 2 and 4 positions. The stock pickups sound good, but are noisy in all 5 positions. The Fralins have a very authentic 50's tone.

  • verycool for a hendrix fan like me (great playing and interprétation.)

  • Thanks!

  • catfish blues?

  • Yeah, more or less.............

  • perfect gear

  • Thanks! I enjoy this combination.

  • Voodoo Chile!

  • Long live Jimi!

  • Beautiful guitar and tone. I think however if I were left handed I would still have to play a right handed strat just for the added sound possibilities.

  • Thanks for the compliment! My first good guitar was a right handed '74 Strat and I found the controls to be a little harder to work with on top. Sometimes the part of my hand below my thumb towards the wrist would accidentally turn down the volume, the knobs are in your arm, and the end of the cord plug sticks up a bit too for your arm to lay across it. At this point, I would buy a right handed neck and a pickguard with a reverse angle in the bridge pickup position to get more of a Jimi tone.

  • Is this guitar the same as the american vintage that's on fender's site right now?

  • Yes, it is an American made '57 Reissue.

  • Ooooh yea! That's what Stratocasters were made for. It makes me sad when i see people trying to play Metal on Strats. Great test, im gonna get that guitar when i have enough cash.

  • Thanks! This is a great, classic combination.

  • can i get AC/DC Sounds with this amp?

  • Yes you can, especially with humbuckers.

  • @LeftPaul1 oke fine i own a sg

and what tubes would you prefere for an early 1976 50W Plexi for those Hard Rock sounds?

    thanks for your answer

  • Right now, I'm using JJ KT-77's in this amp. They break up a little sooner than the EL-34's and sound great!

  • nice tone, what year was this guitar made?

  • Thanks! I bought this guitar in 2000.

  • @LeftPaul1

Was it actually made in 2000, or before that?

  • I believe I bought it in the fall of 2000, so it most likely is a 2000. In fact, it was actually one of the last solid color 57's made in regular production. They offered only sunbursts after that.

  • hi is this malmsteens amp?

  • Yeah, I believe that he plays 50 watt non-master models. This is one of the last of the point to point wired versions (1973).

  • respect for lefties! =)

  • Right on.......

  • i play a strat with 69 pups and fender blues junior,it a nice sound but id like a marshall,im thinking of getting a haze 15watt head and cab-not to loud..

  • Great tone at a reasonable level is half the battle.

  • Hey what year is your strat? I like the 57 reissue's but can't afford the 82-84 fullerton's lol.

  • I bought it in 2000. Everything always gets better with age, eh?

  • @B2Rockin

    I got a 62 reissue. good stuff.

  • Yeah, great guitars.

  • Nice! White with gold hardware would be sweet!

  • Yes, there's definitely something to be said for the Strat/Marshall combination. Rock on!

  • great tone dude.

it sounds a bit like jimi hendrix's tone

or is it jst me? haha

  • Thanks! Strat/Marshall combination kinda lends itself to playin' a little Jimi! :)

  • Fender '57 Reissue Strat with Fralin Vintage Hot pickups

through my '73 Marshall JMP 50 watt head and Marshall 1960AX cab with greenbacks Ten cent camera microphone

  • if either was at fault itd be the strat, no such thing as a bad jmp but goddam those amps is good with any guitar

  • With the Marshalls I own, you can run pretty much any guitar though them and it will sound great. The Strat is obviously a very versatile guitar and Rock musical history proves what magic can be made with this combination.

  • it is not the pickups or the guitar ,.. it is the amp..get a fender twin ,you'll sound lot better...have some respect for that guitar. marshall and fenders are not too friendly except for rare occasions like Richie Blackmoore ....i blame the Marshall not the Fender..ouch too muddy .

  • Are you kidding me.......Marshalls and Fenders are not friendly? Have you ever heard of Jimi Hendrix? Jeff Beck? Eric Clapton? Robin Trower? Buddy Guy? Yngwie Malmsteen? Eric Johnson? ZZ Top? Thank God for Jim Marshall. If it wasn't for him, all Strats would sound like the Beach Boys! By the way, you misspelled Richie Blackmore's name.

  • i agree but i dont think marshalls sound better than fenders, there just different

  • Exactly. They're 2 different animals, each with their own purpose.

  • great tone and playing!!!

  • Thanks! I enjoy this combination.

  • yeah, but some of jap strat in 89' era better than mexican and some of MIAs! believe it.

  • My MIJ '68 reissue Strat was made in 1988 and has been my main Strat since I got it. Back then I paid $400 for it. I also have a '94 American Standard Strat and my '68 fits my hand better and it actually "Stratier". Not to take anything from the '57, but the '68 will keep right up with it.

  • my strat is a 1988 MIJ Strat and i love it dearly... it could do with a rewire but i dont want to ruin it. lol. in my opinion it is better than any modern american one that i've played, doesn't beat my original 65 Jaguar though ;)

  • I hear ya! They're great guitars.

  • Great !!! Excuse me.... This Strat is Japan or USA, and year made please...... I'm a great fan of Fender pre CBS and CBS 70's and Custom Shop new. For my opinion the original Fender is USA and not Japan..

I'm a lucky possessor of a Stratocaster USA 1979 Sunburst with original documents and case. A dream for me.....My sound is great with an a Valve Marshall JCM 800 1983.

5 Stars for you !!! Marco.

  • Thanks Marco! This is an American made '57 Reissue. I bought it in 2000. My first left-handed Strat was a '72 hardtail - I wish I still had it today! I also have a 1983 JCM 800. Check out my other videos with the white Marshall combo.

  • i have a '57 strat too, i like the tone of it...except for the bridge pickup, too thin and bitey.

how much better are these than the stock pickups do you think?

excellent playing by the way, jimi is smiling down on you

    peace and happiness

  • I agree - the stock bridge pickup is a bit thin. I really like the Fralins - the bridge pickup is a bit hotter to make it fuller. The set of pickups is calibrated so they're the same volume in each position, plus quiet in the 2 and 4 positions. I would buy these again. I might also check into the Fralin Woodstock set.

Thanks for the compliment on my playing!

    Peace and happiness....happiness.......happiness

  • does it play smooth and flexibel?

  • I like the size and shape of the neck. The vintage size frets make it a little harder to bend than bigger frets, but I prefer them. The overall action is smooth.

  • this is seriously my dream combo. 57' RI strat, and a marshall 50watt w/ celestions. Dude all you need now is a BK Butler tube screamer and a THD hotplate so you can crank it at bedroom volumes.

    cheers, man ... sounding good.

  • Thanks! I have a drawer full of overdrive/distortion pedals, so I can add just about any degree of distortion I need. In my book there's nothing better than a Marshall half stack- the older the better!

    Rock on!

  • good, sounds a lot like mine, the 1973 lead 50, handwired, i done a clip or 2 with a red harmony strat,, sounds killer,

  • Thanks! They're a great amp. I'll check your clips out too.

  • Nice

  • Thanks!
