and i thought the Newiedi should really be labeled as a lancehead rather than a pitviper, as lanceheads are conspecific to the south americas vs the north america and the old world vipers... I'm not really experienced when it comes to south american hots, but this is based from my own knowledge of the Bothrops species i've studied......

@needlelust I can't spell. A lance head is a pit viper so that one is safe. I reedited this video many times since this one here. This one is sloppy and was edited for general viewing. The Clelia eats Bothrops Directors cut is a lot cleaner and looks a lot nicer. I actually have a whole documentary on, "The Snakes of Paraguay." This is just a part of it. A very early edit.

@houston56able Staged in the wild. We caught both of them at nearly the same time and then put them both down together about 4ft. apart to take a picture of them. The bothrops moved and the clelia attacked it. So yes I never claimed it wasn't staged but we didn't go to any great lengths to stage it. We only had the clelia for a few hours and had just found the bothrops where you see it.

The aggressive behavior shown by the viper before clip where it shows it being wrapped up in the Clelia was awesome! I LOVE animal behavior! @Jakal1391 Vipers skulls are very light. This allows them to be able to strike fast. The Clelia has a very powerful bite and it crushed the head and skull of the viper. We could hear it. That killed the viper shortly after the Clelia had it by the head. It was very grisly.

The name of the Bothrops species is Bothrops neuwiedii (not neuweidii) as it is correctly spelt in the English name Neuwied´s Pit Viper. It is named after Prince Maximilian of Wied. The castle of the noble Wied family is located at the German town of Neuwied. I happen to live near the town.
