The tv series skips india. The producers thought that people would be board with sharpe as a private. They are making eoisodes in india. but they changed the story because every one has aged.
its sharpe tiger i just finished reading it a very good book where he fights the tippoo and his solders the tiger striped men in seringapatam (south of india) give it a read =)
Why? Because it is so unrealistic and historically inaccurate. Wellington, the supreme commander suddenly gets chased by French cavalry (where are the scouts/ guards?) in the beginning and when the main character is slashed in the back with a saber, he doesn't even feel pain. Look at the French, they look like idiots, and their horsemen never wore white hats. I can keep talking about more. Watch it if you like, but it's full of junk in my opinion. That's what I think.
While you can have what opinion you want, just one point...
While I accept that this was a poor depiction of 'French' Cavalry, you are potentially wrong. The cavalry could be lancers without their lance (not unusual) and wearing an oilskin covering over their csapkas (sp?). I initially balked at the scene as it is NOT how it is written in the book... even so it is a good first effort (this was the first Sharpe film - I believe - so they had little budget)
The films are pretty awful, but the books are a great read. Wellington (at the time General Wellesley) was unhorsed, at the battle of Assaye in India. He took part in a ditch Cavalry charge. The books start in India and end up in Chile, but all are historicity accurate
of course the french didn't wear white hats but look closer and you will notice they are covers over their hats worn to keep them smart the british also wore covers over theis hat in fact most nations cavalry wore helmet covers
It's 006

ITV did them - loads of them. And they're really good!

TheoriginalDRBOB 3 years ago
Amazon should have them. Search online, should be easy enough to find. There are box sets in most stores too.
