@DrClutch100 Your problem was likely in the 3D settings. When he said to uncheck everything, there were only 3 boxes to uncheck. Newer versions of DeSmuME have a 4th box that, when I unchecked it, led to your exact problem with me. Try keeping it checked. That fixed it with me.

I just want you to know, it's awesome that you are varsity football player who watches Soul Eater (Excalibur for the desktop background FTW) and play pokemon. Love it when people go against the stereotypes.

Also, none of this worked for me. Playing Pokemone SoulSilver and for some inexplicable reason, none of this changes the speed at all. Yes I did it all and yes it's still disabled/enabled (frameskip, sound bus, 3D settings, etc) but it is just as slow as it is with all that as the default.

@JR7GAMERS agreed with ebbitt13, a ton of people have all sorts of troubles playing black/white on no$gba such as they use the codes but it wont work or they get a black screen at the 'new game' selection which so far doesnt have a fix. im unable to use no$gba for that reason so im stuck with desmume and at least i can play it. once i find a fix for the black screen ill definitly use it its SO MUCH FASTER.

It's a lot faster but the stylus pad doesn't seem to work properly.

Might just be the game though, wanted to try Overlord: Minions. Game starts up just fine, the intro goes well too and then the game itself is laggy as hell and completely unresponsive.

Desmume is garbage. NO$GBA is the better emulator. Yeah you don't have to input codes to make some games work on Des. But in exchange you gotta suffer through slow ass game progression. It's funny how how no cash is the exact opposite. :)
