Thank you all for your kind comments. Sam was such a cool cat. He is missed every day! With regard to medications -- no he never received any for the seisures. In Sam's old age he was treated for hyperthyroidism. He also developed heart disease. He was relatively stable and happy up until about one or two days before his death. He went into congestive heart failure and had very much trouble breathing. So in the end, it was his heart, not the seizures.
I am so sorry about Sam. My 17 yr old has been having intermittent seizures since fall. Some days they happen every hr or so then they disappear for a while. Lately they have gotten very violent and contorted. Did he get any medication? And did the seizure finally take him? I dread having to take him in for "that"...he seems absolutely fine in between. THanks for sharing this...it helps when you have it going on with your own pet.
I think my cat may be going through this now. What did you do to treat it? Is there medicine or anything? She's staying over night at the vet now. She also has thick blood so they're saying she may have a tumor, bone marrow problem, cancer...every horrible thing you could think of. She's only 3 yrs old. Was it the same for you?
I am very sorry to hear about your loss :( but 16 years is amazing :) just wanted to know if there was anything you ever gave Sam for his seizures? We have a cat that is 6 years old and she recently started having them ...
My old cat suffered from Seizures as a kitten, he wasn't given enough oxygen when he had surgury. Luckily he overcame them and lived until he was about 11-12.
How sad :( my cat acts like that for about an hour after he has one of his more serious seizures, it's so sad watching them go through it, everytime it happens I think he's going to die. Not fun. Mine is only 2 and has lived 20 our of his 24 months I've had him with seizures :( He will not live long, maybe 2-3 years, but the seizure will kill him, or the toxicity of valium will :( So i am trying to give him the best life possible.
My cat just started ths behavior i think is vestibular disease and we have started treatment also the beginning of spring triggers this and loud noises we noticed
My cat does the EXACT SAME THING! Holy crap, I'm so relieved! I thought she was in serious trouble!

Sam passed away on Jun 26, 2011. He was 16 years old. He had a very happy life, despite these seizures. We miss him very much.
