@rocdude66 lol for Cy Young, I was only naming modern day pitchers.... but as to why I didn't name Pedro... you got me there. I can't believe I left him out when he was one of the best pitchers of the 20th century
There is a trade off...yes taller pithers have longer arms and legs but they have to be stronger to move as fast as a guy whos not as big. As a GENERAL RULE OF THUMB a pitcher that is 6' should be 185 pounds and every inch added is 10 pounds and take away 10 for every shorter. Most pitchers in MLB fall within 10 pounds of this rule.
He's been able to stay healthy because of the way he finishes, look at the way his arm works across his body. His arm doesn't recoil like a lot of pitchers who wind up hurt
@CastawayAja2008 That white thing moving along the very bottom of the screen after Oswalt's delivery is actually the ball...as soon as Oswalt sees it he runs toward 1st base to take a throw from the first baseman.
Roy never gets any respect nowadays. Hes one of the best pitchers in baseball but you never here about him. Its too bad he can't get a team to hit behind him. Then he would be everywhere.
I love you Roy oswalt!! Go ahead and leave. I am one astros fan who you have permission to leave from. You work your a** off everygame and you get no one behind you. It will be better for you I hope they trade you
being tall in baseball in overrated. I have seen many great pitchers who were 5'11'' - 6'1'' who get plenty of ball movement and velocity, two things supposedly short pitchers can' t get. Who? Oh... umm... Tim Lincecum, Rich Harden, Jake Peavy, Johan Santana, Tim Hudson, Roy Oswalt, Chad Billingsley, Octavio Dotel, and if I felt like it, I could name more. If you want me to, leave me a comment.
iWell. MLB players in general are kinda a minority in itself. I know small guys are a minority, but you might wanna look at the 2010 rosters, I just got my issue of baseball digest and there are seem to be more and more guys 6'1'' and under each year. On the other hand, maybe that's just me and my wishful thinking. lol
@cageC64 its not being overrated if u r tall...obviously there are great pitchers that are shorter! but being tall gives u a couple of advantage...long arm...longer strides....can be a bit more deceptive depends on ur delivery...nobody said shorter ( and shorter...the list u made isnt exactly short..just shorter players) players are crap...its just that being tall may give u certain advantages thats all....
I've watched this atleast 100 times.

this is the guy that looks most like lincecum when he pitches, although lincecum has more separation in hip and shoulder rotation

@cageC64 they are an absolute minority. If you are tall, bigger and stronger and have a clue on how to be coached, you will dominate competition
