i wish i could find the mike-tim (kevin bacon)-darren storyline on youtube. mike was investigating the muder of darren's girlfriend. tim was the main suspect. darren was the son of a senator. this would be roughly 1981. in a reenactment of bacon's death scene from friday the 13th (or a reenactment of nancy loomis's death in halloween), mike lunged from the back seat of a car and slapped his hand over tim's mouth. in the commercials it looked like a horror movie preview.
I think GL was in the top 5, because General Hospital was definitely number one (Luke & Laura mania throughout the whole year of 1980, BIG TIME!! Lol!!). General Hospital of course won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama for that year (1980) in the spring of 1981. Guiding Light won the following year in the spring of 1982.
I can't believe they told Holly to stay in that room where Roger would be able to find her. And then Holly answers the door to what is obviously Roger with a Spanish accent? It's like Landshark on SNL. Love this stuff though. Did Lisa Brown have a cold at this time? Nola also has such a dowdy outfit on.
well, to be fair, we see it through the vantage point of camera angles, too...in the story it isn't "suppose" to be noticeable to the cast...they're suppose to be so consumed with other things they're not looking toward the fireplace with any degree of regularity.
Doug Marland was a great soap writer. He new the importance of character development

the fashion of 1980 wasn't necessarily the best. Too bad I was born that year.

That "bug" is so obvious...I remember that this storyline introduced the Reardons...

Roger Thorpe vs James Stenbeck

Wow, the parallels between this and James trying to abduct Paul on ATWT suggest quintessential Douglas Marland.
