  • Very reminiscent of Air Wolf! The london Uk Metropolitan police had 3 of these helicopters at one time! The fly by helicopter sound sounded more like a Bell 206 rather than a bell 222 which textron lycoming turboshafts! Totally different sound altogether!

  • What a waste of a Bell 222.

  • the term is Auto Rotate not Auto Gyro

  • I think it would've been different if Stringfellow Hawke and Dom were inside!

  • I take it back - Apparently the term "screaming mimi" predates the opera singer. Though first recorded in 1927 in reference to drunkenness, apparently it goes back to WW1 referring to noise from German artillery shells, and soldiers with "shell shock" / mental breakdowns were said to have "the screeming meemies". Later the term was synonymous with "the heebie jeebies" and "delerium tremens" . The term returned in WW2 in reference to rockets. Also synonymous with "the willies" or "the creeps".

  • Yes, the "Mimi" was an S-58T ( H-34 was the military designation). They originally had a rotary piston engine powerplant that was later replaced with a Turbine engine (hence the "T' -for Turbine). I think that the term "Screaming Mimi" was also used in reference to the "calliope" rocket launchers that were attached to some Sherman tanks. I believe it was a reference to American opera singer Mimi Benzell, comparing the sound of the rockets (or in this case engine noise) to her soprano voice.

  • The nerdy guy is my teacher at my school he's teaching drama:D

  • the most expensive helicopter to maintain but definately the most beautiful of all time

  • If it was Airwolf black, it would've survived. lol By the way, Ann Turkel flying the Screamin' Mimi? Very Cool! She was Adrienne Margo in a Knight Rider episode. She brainwashed Randy, and they stole KITT from Michael. Later in the show, of course Randy & Michael defeated Adrienne & all was back to normal. :) My favorite scene in that episode is when Michael presses the Pursuit button & KITT says, " Oh, this does feel good!"...Then, Michael presses Turbo Boost, & KITT flies 50+ feet in the air.

  • I remember this scene very well.

  • Airwolf! Airwolf!Airwolf!Airwolf!

  • I could've sworn that helicopter was like the kind that was used in Airwolf...was it? Speaking of Ann Turkel, never knew she landed a role in Riptide. I have seen her in a few episodes of Knight Rider as well.

  • That 222 can fly cirlcles around that S-58.

  • I was expecting to see the guns and adf pod come out at some point when they were getting fired on haha... some turbos would've been nice also. :) 5 stars...

  • I havnt seen this show in SO MANY DECACADES-If NICK is the Dark Haired fellow,What is the name of the Blond haired fellow?-The GEEKY GUY's NAME is MURRAY,easy enough TO REMEMBER since he's got same name as that 1980s Bicycle manufacturer >=)P

  • Cody Allen was the blonde guy's name.

  • what TYPE 1960's personel carrier MODEL is that MEE-MEE HELICOPTER?

  • It seems to be a Sikorsky S-58T which I believe came out in 1971.

In the series it was called the "Screaming Mimi" possibly after the German WWII rocket artillery piece, but they never explained it.

  • @busterpiggle is that a s-58?

  • @busterpiggle The regular Riptide helicopter was a Sikorsky but a Bell 222 was given to one of the main characters as a thank you but a Howard Hughes type character in one of the episodes. To bad they didn't have it longer.......

  • No...oooo! Not the helicopter! Just watching that Bell 222 explode brought tears to my eyes - it was painful to watch. What a waste of a beautiful helicopter.

  • that was a model that was blown up...

they werent going to blow up a real one thats too expensive

  • sounds like they stole the SFX from a Recognizer from Tron

  • I forgot how totally hot PERRY KING is.... what a stud...

  • I'm not familiar with the dates, but this smacks of a predecessor (or competition) for magnum P.I. And this stuff about a hot new military helicopter based on the Bell 222 seems like a something that may have led to Air Wolf.

  • it came after magnum

  • "Avoidance System" "Tail Rotor warning", parachutes. LOL!! This was hilarious.

  • he must have thought, he was flying Airwolf !!

  • The girl in the chopper with Peter was on 2 Knight Rider episodes, but I forget her name offhand. One episode was when she was dating the high school nerd kid (isn't that illegal now?) and he drove KITT with an Atari 2600 joystick. :)

  • yeah right... Ann Turkel appears in the Knight Rider episodes

"Soul Survivor" (season 2, episode 31, 1983) as Adrianne Margeaux,

"Goliath Returns" (season 2, episodes 40 & 41, 1984) as Adrianne St. Clair,

"Knight In Retreat" (season 3, episode 66, 1985) as Bianca Morgan

and her name in this episode is Denise McKean

this series is one of my favorites too!!! ;)

  • Wow, that's right. She was married once as Adrianne and not in the other, and then she was Bianca Morgan. As if we couldn't tell it was the same actor.. What is this, Law & Order? :)

  • Wasnt Ann Turkel A PORN ACTRESS?-Wouldnt be the first time hollywood xxx-rated women landed parts on tv shows,But she was 1 of the 2 TO DO IT FIRST-The 2nd hotty was a blond by name of TORI?-She had lied had her age and *KNEW* A GUY THAT WAS IN THE BUISSINESS>:)P

  • the actresses name was Anne Turkel

  • Premeditated destruction of a 222 should carry the death penalty.

  • I still have this episode on tape specifically for these scenes. I loved the 212/230/430 models. I had read an article once about the Airwolf tv show that Bell Helicopter actually called Jetcopters who owned Airwolf and said "Maybe you guys shouldn't be doing some of this stuff." It was kind of ironic that the actual Airwolf helicopter eventually became an air ambulance and was lost in a fatal accident.

  • Aaah, the days when pilots were pilots and rules were for sissies!

Gear up at 5 feet! Lol!

  • Bailing out of a helicopter. Psht. Not a 222 anyway.

Anyone notice Gomez Addams at the end?

  • I wonder if the 430 is as maneuverable. I've never flown either, but I'd love to. :D

  • They don't call it the "oh shit handle" for nothing. ;)

Another one is the "Jesus Nut" atop the rotor mast, so called because if you lose it, that's who you're going to meet! :o

  • The pilot of the second 222 in the scene where they are trying to stop him from doing the loops looks alot Peter McKernan one of the Airwolf stunt pilots.

  • This footage is from the episode Baxter and Boz since the 222 in the footage is suppose to be a advanced helicopter called the Baxter 1000 which is almost simliar to Airwolf minus the fact it wasn't a attack chopper.

  • super

  • Some awesome flying there - good shots too. The special effects when the Bell 222 exploded were great too. By the way, when the Bell 222 goes flying into the ground, and explodes, towards the end of the clip, it is in-fact a JetRanger going down behind the hill, because it's stock footage from the "Knight Rider" episode 'Just My Bill', but un-used footage from that show's episode (an alternate angle).

  • I hate to see a Bell 222 blow up, but the effects looks cool.

  • They needed Airwolf

  • The regular Riptide helicopter was a Sikorsky but a Bell 222 was given to one of the main characters as a thank you but a Howard Hughes type character in one of the episodes. To bad they didn't have it longer.......
