Modified checkerboard on 4x4 like this:

U2 D2 R2 L2 F2 B2

This looks pretty cool. If you consider this 4x4 like you are solving it (scrambled 3x3), it is a checkerboard. You can apply the same concept on other even-order cubes

and then just rotate the middle layer

Continuation of my last comment, here is an easier way of doing the "better way" of a fisher cube checker pattern. With the white side facing you, do: R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U2, turn the cube 180 degrees, with the white side still facing you and do R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U2 again. now, just imagine that the cube is in a solved state, and do what you would do to make it into a "boring" (normal) checkerpattern. All this is easier than it sounds, just practice it a little bit!

hahaha i finally figured out the "better way" to make a checker pattern on the fisher cube! :D if you know how to make the pattern where only 4 of the sides of a rubiks cube is checkered, you simply apply it to the fisher cube, where the yelloe and white sides are "un-checkered". In a full algorithm the "better way" to make a checker pattern on the fisher cube would be, with the white side facing you: R2 U2 R2 U2 R2 U2 L2 D2 L2 D2 L2 D2 R2 L2 U2 D2 F2 B2. You're not doing the complete checkerboard for the 4x4 or 6x6. The top layer for 4x4 should have the 3x3 checkerboard on it, and the 6x6 has the 5x5.
