  • Parrot nabs a random piece of cardboard. Happens to be correct... Hes a genius!!

  • I'm just starting teaching my CAG colors. Later to follow with shapes. After that, I hope to teach her the alphabet, using those magnetic letters that come with my daughter's Leapfrog learning games. It's a long and arduous task and a lot of repetition!

  • @Dummy288 of course he recognizes them by shapes, if they can see a very tiny spot on the card what you want him/her to choose . sorry for my bad english

  • @MonkeyPsycho - Thank you for your comment..l have done plenty of tasks to prove GR's abilities in personelly knowing what he is able to do for me......and there is alot more to just recongnising shapes, vision and sounds.....so therefore iff you have time view some of his other amazing videos....

  • There are human savants that don't need to work out mathematical puzzles. Their brains are geared to see the relationships between numbers as clearly as smells and sounds. I bet parrots have some kind of similar thing going on for recognising shapes, in vision and sound.

  • wow people who doubt this are idoits its really amazing for a parrot to do this

  • I just find it so cute how intensely he stares at the picture puzzles.

  • RuLeZ1988 - well actually that is not the case with regards to GR......there are other videos on my channel where l have used cards without any shapes........

  • He doesnt read the words actually ... he is watching at the shape of the puzzles.

Sometimes u showed him the words upside down, which proves that the bird actually doesnt read the words on the puzzle piece.

  • Umm... you´re giving him the choices like domino. You always give him two choices and that one that is not right is always right with the next picture...

  • Eltremmist-how about you taking time to view the parrot doing this without the pictures there are 3 videos - where GR knows his numbers from 1 to l00- it is amazing for parrot to do that....

  • Well, I just noticed the order of the pictures, I can´t imagine how could you explain him "choose the paper when you see it second time"

  • Extremmist - l don't explain anything to him because he knows for himself which is the right answer! l put the cards in this order as it is easy for me - to handle the bird and the camera--you have to set things up--

  • hehe omg i wish i had a parrot when i was born all the way up to when i was 4 i had one but i was scared of it because it talked lol

  • Esperanza2015 - yes....l can imagine......you probably thought that your toy was talking to you...lol.....But they are hard to keep.....a lot of cleaning....they make too much mess....but l don't mind...

  • yeah, i have a Quaker parrot, not as big, but she lives in my room, and makes a huge mess. also costs a ton too, lots of food and toys 24/7, im getting an African Grey when i move out.

  • smart but outter shape lol he a fat bird lol he needs to hit the gym for a lil bit lol

  • mic9devito - but you must view his other video - 'Parrot like to exercise' - where GR is seen doing some exerise

oh ok yes he needs a gym

  • Memogrr18- You have to spend a lot ot time with them.....and build up the trust .....one day he will surprise you....

  • i have one of those birds but it doesn't even let us get near =(

  • amazing bird

  • mymuzack - OK explanation- it is all about encoding. The theory is that if you don't understand something you cannnot encode it well. Humans have difficulty doing this...example simple words in Say Foreigh language can be hard to recall....

Simple - GR has demonstrated to me as his trainer....that he is able to encode it well....

  • like u said "Acts upon future events like he knows when the Baby is about to climb the stairs and stops him by saying 'No'"

  • Yes...amongst these future events are things like....he blows the nose ...just before that particular person is about to blow his nose!...makes car alarm noise to a particular person (when he sees that person he knows that particular car alarm is associated with that person....

  • he is rather good at guessing though i would say! "reading your minor, unconscious signals". i was just reading about how this one woman, Aimee Morgana, who suggests that her parrot is telepathic. sounds crazy but after watching yours it does a damn good job of guessing even when its not looking at you. she said in the article that whenever she tried to 'project' something to him that it wouldnt work, but when she would think normally it could read her mind.

  • the bird's not trained to really do this. no offense. i watched the other videos of him and yea he basically picks whichever one you hold closer to his face, and when he picks the wrong one you just hold it there to let him know it was the wrong one. i dont see wat this accomplishes other than belittling him. think like a parrot when you are teaching him things. dont expect him to be able to read for christs sake. teach him how to speak and what it means when he says something.

  • I am sorry...that is not the case...even though people want to believe that GR choose cards close to his face....l have done the same task with cards flat on a board and he get them 100? accurate....

  • really don't get what problem people got??!! :S it's a parrot for GOD SAKE and whether it does just pick the words or it reads it i rate amy for all the hard work she put in to teach GR!! i just totally love your bird!! :D really impressive

  • xhinamax...GR Loves you and Pumpkins...thanks....yes it was hard work.....this video lead one Task to another....and a lot of observation and training....alot lot goes into this.....getting the bird to trust you, to co-operate, to get them used to the camera (took 3 years)...lol

  • WOW three years, that's pretty long indeed! lol yeah the bird trusting is the issue with my cockateil lol

  • xhinamx...give him time and things should be ok....

  • can it read??? who are u kidding! it is simply picking the shape of the puzzle missing in picture to the one attached to word. still impressive

  • Sushi123 - Sorry he is not picking them to the shape...l can confirm this...as l have used the same cards leaving out the pictures - he is able to give me the words that l ask for....

  • As far as i can see he's just picking the one he didn't pick last time, you show him starfish, give him option of starfish/butterfly, next one, picture of butterfly, option of butterfly/whatever

  • your theory about the option is wrong...watch the 'no option' videos, parrot knows his 1 to 100, spells his own name, playing snap and funny moody parrot....than let me know again about the option..

  • you can never definitivley state i'm wrong, which is why i never stated what i did as "fact" which you seem to frequently do in your replies

  • Pilkingtube - GR is 100% right and l say that you are 100% wrong.. As with regards to other peoples comment...l appreciate negative comments too..(this particular test was tested in various ways e.g. without the showing him the pictures)

  • I'm sorry but I just can't accept you saying everybody else is 100% factually wrong and your are 100% factually right, I understand you think a lot of your pet but I don't understand why you seem to just shut everybody down who thinks differently and that its a tricks for treats scenario.

  • Whats his name?

  • HL34525 - His name is GR (short for Ganga Ram)....Long name isn't it? You can view GR spelling his own name on my Channel......

  • Pilkingtube - because l don't use any tricks or know how to do tricks and l never give GR any treats to make him do these tasks - is the reason why - everyone is wrong - l don't shut anyone down....l love their views and comments -as they are comming from different angles.....But l stand up for GR - because l know what he is capable of.....

  • iLuvAkshayKumar- This parrot can do generally more than what other parrots can do.....Yes.. he talks a lot........

  • omg he is so smart! i honestly never knew parrots could do these kind of things! can he talk?

  • "magician's choice". Some times he clearly favors the wrong card and you subtly direct him to the other one through body language. Why do all your videos have music? Afraid we'll hear you giving him commands?

  • (don't know how Magicians work)...l don't use any form of Body Language...l do ask him a question and his picks the right answer...currently the music put on recently....to all my silent videos...posted since 2007...

  • it has nothing to do with left/right recognition. He is recognizing shape. The cards with the picture have a piece missing out of the bottom of them, and he is pairing that up with the piece that is added to the top of the cards with the words on it. I can honestly bet anyone that that is really what is going on. he isn't "reading" the cards.

  • pixie1031176- and also l know for a fact that he is not pairing them up by the shapes.....(but it is a good point which you made)....How about you watching the video on GR knows his numbers where no shapes are presented to him like so?

  • You can also train a parrot to choose left or right with commands

  • DaLauteNoob - OK its a know fact one can train to choose left or right with command...but GR is not taught that way.....

  • hazwan07 - GR's thinking is right....your thinking is wrong...lol....and as for me...no l don't tell him to choose from right or left....that is cheating....We do no such thing.....

  • i thnk, u tell him to pick whether left or right of your hand

  • Rayes101 - Yes...GR belongs to me.....he is part of my family.........

  • nice video :P is this your parrot bacaue if it is im really amazed!

  • l33thustla - he knows for himselve what he wants to pick........

  • I think you tell it to pick

  • Aliandrin - But to get him to answer to my question in a number of ways is a big accomplishment and one of them is also present the cards in different ways and not in one sequence...

  • There's a lot of potential for this to be worthless experimentally; the parrot could be responding to how the puzzle pieces are presented. They CAN learn those associations, but there's no proof this one has, and certainly less that it can read.

  • Tomsk66- No sorry disagree with you..watch the video again...stop at butterfly (on right and next one sheep) also chooses on right..also he thought that ladybird was the right answer but realises the answer to be rabbit (on his right)

  • do you see that is everytime right and after left and right and left...

  • lol :D so cute

  • Nel97 - Yes he does read them upside down and some other ways too.........

  • he read backwards? x_x

  • Scitech101 -Meaning?

  • ........i don't believe this. Is Dr. peperberg aware of this?

  • lovebird699 - in total a period of 8 years....

  • How long did it take to teach him that?

  • ffttbbuu - The picture cards were shown as my sound was not working...but have you had the chance to view other video's of GR where cards are not shown to him?...you are welcome to view them......

  • i get what your doing you show him a pic and he picks it... you do the next pic and the one that you did in the last pic was not correct was it

  • I think it is something all birds can do if you co-oparate really well with them but this video would be better if she could say the words x x

  • Another 5 stars I need to try these methods with KaNicki !

  • quelita28- thanks for the advice ....My own method of training is to get GR to touch the right answers- however he has proved to me (in his own time that he was able to communicate and talk to our dog ect... (only when he choose to speak so....

  • You are doing great and so is your parrot.

I am impressed. The next step is to associate those objects with vocalizations

so that he can say each one of them. This

process can take a long time, but some

scientists like Dr. Pepperberg have been

very succesful at it. Try reading into her

research with Alex and her model rival technique. It made Alex and her famous.

  • yelloworangered - Yes l have other video's but needs uploading.....where he is seen choosing for himself from full container of numbers (mixed up) and he can choose colours from a selection mixed up colours....PS appreciate you comment...

  • drewgooden23 - judge for yourself...most of time not even looking at me for cue....Stop at following he is looking otherside and not me: 0:57/5:33 1:15/5:33, NSt 2:08/5:33 he hesitate at the 'Bear and goes for right one!

    2:42/5/33 - not even looking at me...242?5:33 ,4;31/5;33

  • Amazing how much your bird's brain is stimulated. This is an inspiration. I'll try different stuff with Nibbles. =D

  • art8668 - With various tasks that l have performed with GR..... I can now disagree that his intelligence is that of a five year old......Not even a 90 year old can do what GR can do......(well maybe a genius can)

  • african greysare known to have the intelligance of a five year old child

i have worked with them before , verry smart birds..

speach in clear and can tell the differance between object like you or i, can recognize colors and ever tell the names of them when told

  • is it only african grey parrots that can learn stuff? this is the only type of parrot i see doing stuff in videos. besides that, awesome parrot

  • you know what? i belive you that is the greatest bird i eer seen

  • Why did you send this to me? This is amymint5's video, And BTW, Not all videos need sound

to convey the message. She is my friend - & videos without sound, if not music, do Not bother me at all.

  • Try again, this time with sound

  • yelloworangered - Believe you me - iff you were to do this instead of me he would do it again without any sigaling, trick or treats...no Hans the Horse -tricks used...sorry..yes he reads them upside down too..

  • I wasn't saying that you were deliberately trying to trick or mislead us, just wondering if all the avenues for your parrot to get the right answer in ways other than truly knowing them had been covered. Have you tried this with the cards in a rack? I envy your having a parrot -- they are fascinating creatures. Thanks again for posting this.

  • I would be more convinced if the cards were in a rack. You may be accidentally signaling him. You've heard of Clever Hans the horse? Also you show him the cards upside down -- does he read them both ways? Still, this is more evidence of parrot's intelligence because even if he is doing what I suggest, reading your minor, unconscious signals, it is still very impressive. Thank you for posting this.

  • I agree with you, the bird is simply following cues.

  • petenjude - But is is what you see (with demonstration) (for instance when l show him the cards - don't it make one think....is he going to get it all right?so l don't need no proof ....it is all here for every to see.....I confirm that l use no tricks or treats.....

  • this video sucks, no sound so ther is no proof

  • wikiporno - yes l know Apes can also do this...But however can Ape's demonstrate in in knowing their numbers from 1 -100 and do they know the English and the Indian Althabet, and also know 32 Capital Cities of the World, Can they Act as an Alarm for the Baby and various other remarkable task they my Parrot is able to do.......

  • apes can do that too.

  • isokessu - I think it is easier for my parrot to read than to speak....as it demonstrates to me that l know the way his brain works...as he acts upon my instructions....

  • isokessu-GR is a thinking bird who thinks for himself....When GR trains with me l find it easy for him to be trained to think for himself....He touchs the right cards rather than to speak to tell me(this is our own training methods) it works for us.....

  • why there's not sound? and isn't that easier to learn that parrot to speak from picutres than read :D

  • theres not supposed to b sound

  • that is one smart bird!!

  • fraublucher - the sound would not work for anyone as it is a silent video hence alternatively the reason why l show the picture to you first and than ask GR to give me the right answer......

  • The sound isn't working for me.

  • theres not supposed to be sound lol

  • Can you email me with the training technique(s) you used? I'm very interested in this! (soon-to-be orange wing amazon owner)

  • Nice Vid! Great Speaker.

  • alicaj-right you are Alex died at the age of 31.....correction made on my comment on this page....

  • Kretankooper.....Was having problems with most of my video with regards to sound...but still....GR is acting upon my questions to him (because of no sound - I show the card to you first and then he is seen and acting upon choosing the right answer)

  • Raulitech - I believe Alex died at the age of 31. He was famously trained by his owner. This is GR (Gangaram) who l personnelly trainned and know all his known abilities. Sorry about the sound but there are other vedio with sound

  • alex the parrot died at the age of 31 :(

  • KATEZCRAZYCASTZ - a Lot poeple think that animals cannot understand - just because they cannot speak up for themselves.....My vedios are good examples that animals can understand..People need to learn from intelligent animal vedios and learn from these...that Animal Abuse and animal cruelty should be stopped...and that animal brains are just as good as ours.....they have feelings too.."We need to learn from Animals"....

  • what a smart african grey. lol i know one that would cuss lol this birds very smart. i own two cockatiels one can talk the female cant tho

  • im convinced but no sound? is this alex the famous parrot?

  • Some humans are ignorate and refuse to learn from animals - and yet it is the humans that abuse innocent animals around the World. One thing is for sure is that l have learnt alot from GR.

  • why do we need to learn from anumals? just curious

  • Ansugib -Thanks. If l were to test this people against my parrot on a (Task that l know that he is capable of doing) I am 100 percent sure that GR will outshine them.

  • OMG why do some people have to find fault in everything. Im a owner of 3 beautiful parrots 2 of which are African Greys n they are incredibly inteligent creatures...seems unfortunate we cant say the same about alot of humans really doesn't it? My Greys are only 1 yr olds n have learned to do so much already. With enough time spent with them they can learn to do all sorts. So u lot tht have only commented on here to ridicule...get a life as atm it would appear GR has more intelligence than u!

  • Sorry my comment posted twice lol.....keep up the gr8 work with GR!

  • ruf11-Alternative from choosing just from two cards, maybe you would like to view GR choosing from several letters to spell his own name and also GR choosing to play snap - GR knows what he is asked to do - in many other ways. "Old and New cards" has nothing to do with exactly what he knows in his Brain...

  • you give him two word cards and an animal card. somehow he chooses the correct word card. then, you keep the unchosen word card and add a new one, and introduce another animal. it turns out that the unchosen card from before is the new animal. all the parrot needs to do is keep track of new vs. old word cards -- the old always win. he doesn't even need to look at the animals. now i don't mind being cheated... it's the parrot I pity!

  • asenaoth- still - even though this vedio does not have sound working - the vedio itself is just as good enough as it demonstrates GR's intelligence

  • FYI: i don't have audio on this. i checked, it doesn't seem to be my computer.

  • Starraynight, thank for comment. As you can appreciate Training is our secret (between GR and me) but we share some of his well known abilities with everyone.....(these are just a few)- in all it is not just about training, it is about Love, respect understanding and trust....and building a special bond between us...

  • What a beautiful and brilliant bird you have! Would you mind telling me how you trained him/what training method you used? I'm curious about alternatives to clicker training and I read from one of your comments on another bird's video that you use a different method.

  • Hi SteigerMark, regarding your comment on Science- well this vedeo demonstates that he knows his words here. This is what he is capable of plus lots more...keep an eye out for GR...

  • Hi SteigerMark,As far as l am concerned GR knows the impossible - and there is no cheating or pretending matter here. He has an extraordinary brain. Let me tell you that not even you or l can do what GR can do.

I have discovered how my Parrots brain works-

No Cheating, No pretending - l only speak the truth..(and that is my Secret-GR is a gifted Parrot).

  • PS All that l am doing with my hand is mixing the words up - to show that there is no cheating - there is no indication to showing or telling him to turn left or right..."This parrot is a Genius!"

  • Hi SteigerMark, Theres no sound -as for using a faulty cam. Any Task l have done with GR is all due to his all know albilites that l have discovered through training him..

There is no cheating what so ever here. He chooses himself to the right answers by turning to the right answers - All because he knows the answers for himself! Be convinced and watch more of GR..

  • In fact you pretend there is no cheating and your parrot can really read. Congratulations! Science will be very interested in your parrot; this is the most important thing since the first steps on the moon.

  • You indicate to the bird if he has to take left or right, that's the reason why there is no sound. Cheating is not allowed with intelligence tests, otherwise they are worth nothing! Anyway you trained well your parrot and he is doing very well!

  • It would be better with sound, but he's still very impressive.
