Yup - it sparked world wide interest but in Montana it IS legal. :) If you Google "Montana riding horse drunk" you'll find all sorts of references to the commercial.
the cowboy and I ride our hores to town and tie em up outside the bar have a few drinks than head out. it is sooo funny to see the way people look at us when we ride in town!lol
@paradehorsegirl Out west it is common to still have horses, wagons etc,...in towns occasionally. Drivers gotta be prepared for anything, It is their responsibility. Last summer I saw 4 saddled horses waiting patiently outside of a local bar in the afternoon. Side note, If you hit a cow on open range you gotta pay the rancher for it. But the meat is yours (if there is any left to eat that is good, that is.) Love it out here!
That's awesome that out there you can still have horses in town. I'm in Iowa, have horses, and I would do it myself... But the people around here... I don't wanna endanger my horses with these crazy drivers! haha
@MapleSV DId you see how small this town looked with deserted streets? Probably there are NO taxis there.Besides,a taxi wouldn't have made that neat of a service announcement.
We had a similar case in Iowa. The rider was arrested on a public intoxication charge. Of course, you would have to ask George Jones about lawn mowers
That is cool the only bad thing in our part of the country in Iowa you can still be pulled over by the man for operating under the influence on horseback(providing you stop when asked and not disappear through the neighborhood back yards and into the timber :)
Can't believe this is done by Montana Dept of Transportation. Looks like something a beer company and madison ave ad guy would put together. More of a reason why USDOT needs to quit wasting tax dollars on stupid commercials and let the states take care of their safety programs like MT does. Quite a concept I know, I stole it from some guys named Jefferson and Madison.
I would love a ride home like that. But I would keep on riding, past home, past all of it. Back to a simpler time.

Most of the commercial was shot in downtown Hamilton, MT. on Marcus Street. Speed limit is 25 mph. I believe the horse was doing about 4 mph. ;-)

The spirit of the PSA is correct.
However, having ridden across America, riding at night w/o a rear-facing strobe light & in city streets is suicide.

It doesn't matter what you're "operating", if your drunk while driving in Alaska, it's a DUI.
Cool commercial though.

APHA also posted this on Facebook. It's getting a bunch of flak because people are concerned that horses will get hit by cars, etc.
I'm like, guys. If this was such a horrible thing, then WHY would APHA do this? lol
I don't know. I like what they're trying to do here in the video. :)

@crowleysridgegirl Everything probably shuts down by 5PM except the bars! The horses name is Outlaw Rooster.

Im pretty sure the a-hole cops in my city would still give a guy a dui for that!

If the horse knows where to stop to pick him up, he has been to that bar waayyy to many times.

If you're going to ride a horse after you've been drinking, a helmet would be a good idea...

That's actually pretty cool. No one in Michigan would've thought of that at any means (the MI gov't that is).

The horse's name is Outlaw Rooster - he lives in Stevensville, Montana and has a FaceBook fan page.
