  • This version of this song seriously changed my life.

  • i saw the show a couple days earlier in l.a. i waited outside for 5 hours to find a ticket on the first night and got shut out. waited outside for 5 hours on the second night and got shut out. waited outside 5 hours on the third night and finally got in. this song was the end of the acoustic set, transitioning into the electric, just as the ecstasy was kicking in. hands down, without a doubt, by far, no doubt, unquestionably the best show (out of 250+) that i have ever seen in my whole life.

  • takes one back to pumpkinland :o)

  • Is this from the old Soma in San Diego? I saw them in 96 and they came out in their pjs and played this version. F@#kin amazing.

  • Take me with you....it wont be long...they are just prepering us Jeff...New York ,China...its coming to fruition..God help us please..we are waiting.

  • I have this video too. isn't it bridge school benefit from like 96-97? I remember the first part of this set they play acoustic in the pajamas.

  • whoa, i don't remember ever hearing this version. it'd be awesome if there were a studio version. we didn't get rocket when i saw em in phoenix in 12/96

  • the original is way better

  • never heard this version so thanks for sharing :) man i love this band so much!

  • The shows of this era were incredible (MCIS small theatre shows in winter of 96). I saw them at the Academy in NYC on January 12, 1996 -- same version of Rocket was played there, loved how they reworked it. Still prefer the original but this was imaginative ...

  • this is billy at the height of his genius and SP at the top of the world!

  • You can hardly recognize the song but it's amazing. Rocket is actually the only song on Siamese Dreams I don't like but I love this version. So you see, you can make millions and millions of songs out of a song (-: and you see that the Pumpkins are wizards of causing all different kinds of emotions even with one song.

  • fantastic! What a band!

  • I really enjoyed that performance. From 3:30 on could be its own song and hold its own.

  • extremely beautiful.

  • This was from San Diego at a club called SOMA (no joke) from January 30, 1996. I have more of this concert under my youtube name Gish1973

  • best version of rocket, by far!

  • I'd pay good money for a studio version of this. Rocket on Siamese Dream was my favourite 'Pumpkins song, until I heard this version.

  • haha when i read this at first i thought it said "best version of rocket, by fart!"

  • it's from the short tour they did in early '96 at theatres in select cities. one acoustic set and one electric. the acoustic set got

electric at the end, and this is that. you can tell by the HUGE drum kit (covered in black cloth).behind jimmy. that was the

kit they used for the second set.

i saw it at the palace in la 2-6-96.

best show i've ever seen. by far.

  • Hey guz can you fix the title it irritates me. It's "alternate" not "alternative".

  • @ jonesov:

There's nothing wrong with using alternative in the title.

  • technically it's ok, but idiomatically it's incorrect.

  • I'm british, so to me it is.

  • wow! amazing pumpkins best band

  • it's not from siamese dream tour but Mellon Cpllie. I'm shooting early 1996. notice billys bald head and mellon collie's 'flwoer' lights

  • wow, this blows me away

  • This version ....eargasm.

  • I love this version!

  • this is an awsome version of this song

  • Wow, when is this from? It sounds very Mellon Collie influenced....

  • i loooooove this version.

  • love how they change thiers songs all the time its great

  • Pobrecillos... estan acabadisimos.

  • Dude! What about Machina and Adore... those were cool. Jimmy leaving was definitely not the end. And he came back you tool. He was kicked out because he was addicted to HEROIN.

  • nice song, but they must habe been high here, Billy sounds like he swallowed a frog and can't even remember the lyrics clearly. Don't get me wrong I'm one of their biggest fans. I used to rock out with them since siamese dream came out. I guess I just expect their best.Rock on Billy.

  • Billy doesn't do drugs. If you were a fan of SP you'd know that.

  • If you were a real SP fan you would know that he did up until mellon collie. wee taad

  • Retard, read my post again, Jimmy Chamberlin was kicked out shortly after their keyboardist OD'ed in a heroin incident during the Mellon Collie tour.

I said that Machina and Adore were great albums, Jimmy came back for Machina but that was post MCIS, Adore had electronic samples, drum machines, Matt Walker did some stuff.

If you were a real SP fan, you would know this.

  • "IF YOU WERE A REAL FAN" fight ftw!!! If you were a real fan, you'd make Billy's face with the jelly on your PBJ. What now bitch?

  • 8 years ago, he did. I said he doesn't DO drugs, meaning not anymore, retard.

  • Actually Billy did do drugs a couple of times and quit about 8 years ago (you can actually find a youtube clip with him saying this) I know that Billy would experiment with drugs a little. During the recording of Gish he took so much acid he would studder.

  • This was from the San Diego pajama party i thought.

  • this was like.. january of 96. from a 2 night stand in NYC i believe

  • Billy has no hair? He shaved it off during the Mellon Collie era...when was this?

  • yet another great performance by SP

    Billy's amazing<33

  • i love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fuckin time capsule..god damn i miss the old days

  • The greatest hits was so mediocre. It's time they released a box set of rare songs. I'm not talking rairties and b-sides on itunes. I mean like the phsyco tapes and Metro shows.

  • Best Pumpkins song ever. I was sad when this song didnt make it to their greatest hits album. It totally should have been on there.

  • all i can say, is fuck greatest hits albums, they completely ruin the concept of actual ALBUMS and when they leave off an essential song like this, it just makes me want to support the idea of greatest hits albums even less.

  • this is the greatest thing i have ever heard. when he goes into the verse "soon, i'll find myself alone" i feel like im going to explode with emotion! damn billy can make your day.

  • i know what you mean! i got chills!

  • This version of this song is the most beautifully poignant thing I have ever experienced in my life.

  • Oh my god ! It's an airplane ! ..It's a bird ! ... It's a meteor ! No,they're Smashing Pumpkins !

  • This is beautifull.

  • AWESOME!!!! They are the best, no doubt about it!

  • fuck fuck

  • One aspect about the Pumpkins that I thought was great was that they would write alternate versions of their songs to perform live. That way, it gave the fans something new to experience instead of just the versions that were on the albums.

  • I remember seeing this one Adore interview thing where Billy says something like a song has infinite possibilities and a version is just one take on a song. It makes me feel bad for people that go to live shows and pay a lot of money for the same thing they could get on the cd. Like a Britney Spears concert where she doesn't even sing haha.

  • you should hear the "to sheila" version they played in 1999, it's in my favorites section, check it out it's amazing!

  • Teh Adore album played live simply made you go fuuuuuucccck Teh wailing Once Upon a Time and Shame during 1998 sounds timeless nine years on. Seems a shame that teh album didn't shift much and classed a failure as it's my favourite!!11!!

  • i love this version, so awesome.

  • Hmmm... Out of curiosity does anyone know where to find audio files of SP's live stuff? I know Tori Amos has a website with all of the bootlegs available for dowload, but haven't found a site like that, if there is one, for SP.

  • rspaa.niluje.n e t

  • lol, Tori Amos.

....who the hell likes tori amos??..

  • Apparently not you.

  • i'd rather have my own penis cut off than listen to Tori Amos.

  • Other then the vocals it barely sounds like Rocket in parts. Awesome, it's like a totally different song almost.

  • This is awesome! I actually like this version as well!

  • yea, this version is pretty awesome.

  • hell fuckin' yeah!!

  • fucking awesome so beautiful raw energy and vibrant sound format thank you for whoever captured this and put this format on you tube. this is a pure expierence heard by a lucky few but now enjoyed by many

  • I hate it when people call it Siamese DreamS (in plural form) in stead of Siamese Dream. Other from that, great version of Rocket, thanks for posting. I have the audio file from this I think.

  • This version sounds so mournful, but still excellent.

  • I think this is live from the Phoenix -- a club in Toronto... seems familiar to me.

  • if the security are assholes - and the bartenders hot but really bad at their job - then it is The Phoenix in Toronto.

  • Sounds like the version from (about) 1-12-96 in NYC.

  • but it isn't! lol.

  • actually it is!

  • great

  • Excellent. Just great. Thank you. Never heard this before, but I do like it a lot. Looks like they're playing in a 60's LSD lounge heh.

  • Maybe it was recorded prior to him shaving his head but after he started wearing a bald cap to see what he would look like.

  • Okay so, he didn't have hair in the Zero video, and that video was made in January of '96. He shaved his head in late '95. I'll assume this was sometime on the Mellon Collie tour in 1996, before Jimmy was kicked out.

  • I have this video since ever!! I dont know where I found it... but now I'm sahring it with the world!

  • did u film this!...luky,..wen was this?!

  • Didn't film it, just going by the fact Billy shaved his head already...and looks like from what they're wearing I'd say like 93/94 just prior to Mellon Collie release maybe? (haha dork like that) but yeah love this version of Rocket!!

  • Doh! Forgot he still had hair in the Zero video, grr so yeah guess this is shortly after Mellon Collie release..95ish? lol
