  • @gracebaileyfan such a buzz kill ... would like to see you try it

  • tone deaf

  • the big bang theory brought me here!

  • @SirForceMEDIA

    me too

  • i think you should play a little bit further away from the camera, so the notes will be more spaced and you'll have more control over the pitch...

  • I didn't know there was a Wii theramin

  • Oh my god 00:58

  • now do mario! ^^

  • Why the gloves?

  • @KabukiPanther Each glove has an infrared LED inside the index fingertip, that's what the Wiimote tracks and sends to the computer to convert to sound. Have a look at my other video "Wii Theremin - How It Works"

  • The wave shape of an thermin is not pure sine wave. It's a full-wave rectified sine wave.

  • @andjack Hm, where did you get that info? I've sampled waveforms of an Etherwave Standard and Etherwave Pro Theremin and they didn't really resemble a full-wave rectified sine wave.

  • @kenmoore well, those are not "pure" Theremines either :)

Mark Keppinger explains it good here: "How to Build & Play a Theremin : The Distictive Sound of a Theremin" watch?v=4KKNOLTgzuc

  • @kenmoore anyway, I really like your creative use of the Wii controller. Really nice!

  • @kenmoore Maybe its not rectified.. but a theremin definately has more harmonics than just a sine wave.

  • I love that Idea of this!! and for it being the wii it doesn't sound half bad!!! YAY for being creative!!

  • I nearly Pissed myself laughing. omg hahahahahaha quality....

  • sei un pugno nello stomaco

  • Look at his mouth and throat...he's clearly making the noise himself...completely FAKE!!

  • You're such a geek, affectionately speaking ; >

  • as Randy would say: it was 'pitchy' LOL

  • Excellent attempt...A little more practice and you are there...

  • 0:18

    Woo woo woo woo woo

    Curly, anyone?

  • oh please for the love of god send this to nintendo I need one of these.

  • Looks fun to me ^_^

  • dude has nothing on Jimmy Page

  • Nice.

  • sounds like you force fed a cat dish soap and squeezed it

  • Made my ears start to bleed T_T But I realize how hard it is to play. So uh...good attempt? >.<

  • @emz33 Yes, truly horrible intonation. I need to get a video up of myself playing it now 2 years later on the real thing... I'm nobody's Theremin Hero, but MUCH improved.

  • @kenmoore You should! This is a fun song to play on the theremin :]

  • @kenmoore sense your so good now ((don't take this wrong I like this)) how about some new vids

  • @jmaster1324 Well, having a 1-year-old daughter means it's VERY hard to find a spare couple hours where she's not asleep or needing some attention. The vids will come... but I can look at the calendar and know that it won't happen for quite some time :(

  • @kenmoore Cool, I look forward to those vids.

  • @emz33 it's better than when the actors from Star Treck tried to make music, anyway. :D

  • sorry.

  • @crsrusl As in "sorry I was being totally rude" or "I'm sorry that you suck"? Read MarkRosengarten's comment, that guy's my hero :)

  • you suck.

  • lol that was cool. gj

  • LOL he's playing a ghost

  • Space, The Final Frontier these are the voyages of the starship enterprise, it's everlasting mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new lives & new civilizations to boldly go where no one has ever gone before!

  • You forgot the rest of the oral intro! :P

  • @PaulMaccasBiggestFan Hahaha. I think he said ecetera at one point. =)

  • @geniusABBY Oh, you're right. :\ I thought he cleared his throat and said "I'm sorry."

  • absolutely awesome!!!!!! love it.

  • Haha, I love your "oh man, butchered that!" faces. Really awesome idea with the Wiimote, and even if you're not pitch perfect, who cares? It certainly looks like you're having a great time. Good stuff. :]

  • dude! that just awesome! i might have to see if i could do something of this

  • Whoa, looks like there is a loooong learning curve with this one! Still - I applaud you for your effort, thanks for posting.

  • Dude you are a genius. But I'm not sure yer a musician lolz. You were pretty off key on most of it but great job anyways. I hope this idea makes you some bucks somewhere.

  • HAHAHAHA This was awesome!! My girlfriend and I almost peed our selves laughing so hard!! I'm so happy you uploaded this!!

  • You should make a premanent placement for the wii mote and mark on some stationed surface to make a scale of notes so you can be more precise

  • the creation is awesome, but admittedly I was disappointed that you didn't even learn how to play that properly... It probably only would have taken about 30 mins...

  • @finnaddict ARGGGGGHHH! I wish you could have been here to see how many outtakes there were, it's amazing I got one as close as this -- I was getting so frustrated about ready to play with my middle fingers pointed skyward! ;)

  • Sounds like something is dying...T_T

  • drunk Star Trek

  • @AnTr3Y Love it!

  • whoa - wait a minute ... a WII Theremin ? Please do tell ...

  • hahahaah hilarious man xD

  • i must say, this is actually extremely cool! if you sold the idea to Nintendo, i would def buy it!

  • Dammit Jim! He's a nerd, not a musician!

  • Lol I love how he cracks up at the end when he messes up really bad

  • crazy, i wish i was smart enough to make stuff like this :P

  • @DAVEFNLEWIS (takes one to know one) I have an Etherwave Pro and have been studying and getting lessons for 6+ months. Give me another couple months to polish up Ave Maria and I'll post it here. Also working on Desperado and some other songs.

  • It's pitchy, but so what? You know that already. Either way, it's still cool technology. :] Excellent start.

  • LOLLLLLLL What the heck?! Wii hacks are so much fun!

  • holy crap it's Schumacher's bro!

  • lol, the notes sounded like wolf link from twilight princess when you howl to play songs

  • @kaishininjou I'd love it if he played the legend of zelda chime after

  • I want one of these!! Amazing instrument and technology. BTW I really appreciated your self deprecating attitude. You were showing the instrument, not trying to show off! I admire people who can laugh at themselves.

  • Dude. Can't you write your program to have lines and colors defining basic pitch areas to make tuning and playing simpler than having no boundaries? Similar to the difference between the violin and guitar (Besides size and playing style, the guitar has a fretted fretboard, something the violin lacks, allowing definite pitches.) Your program has the advantage over the traditional theremin because you have a readout on where your hands are, allowing for more accurate pitch with some practice.

  • My latest version does have on-screen pitch feedback, and what I've realized is that hitting a pitch accurately is VERY hard to do by vision alone -- as the ear is the ultimate judge, it is the ultimate guide.

  • @kenmoore Maybe because you're trying to graph it in a 2D space? Perhaps if you made a Cube with different colored lines for different sections of sound?

Though I'm not sure how you would completely convey 3D space to the computer. Maybe have a multi-camera setup from 3 different angles that specifically pick up IR light?

Keep it up though, practice makes perfect!

  • OMG SO OUT OF TUNEXD?!

  • Yep, I agree it's embarrassing! I'm now learning to play the real Theremin -- one of these days I'll post myself playing this tune again and you'll see quite an improvement.

  • okay, awsome to hear! Cant wait!!:D

  • @kenmoore Where did you buy a theremin?

  • @nclrza Have a look at thereminworld(dot)com - they have good info on buying a Theremin. The one I bought was posted on that site, luckily the owner lives just a couple hours' drive from my home.

  • @kenmoore Ok thanks =)

  • @Stewerrvideos It's not easy to play the theremin.

  • I think Simon Cowell would have said this is indeed a train-crash!!!

  • it may be a little out of tune, but I really don't think i could do any better. plus, its not a real theremin, amd that might make it harder

  • hahahahahahaha

  • super duper awesome!

  • Pretty cool. Is there a GlovePIE script for this?

  • beautiful

  • 5 stars - for being creative, inventive and informative!

I looked up the "theremin" , that i never heard of before...sounds pretty much the same with the wii

  • Nice try! Seriously, i couldn't do it :D

  • well done! i loved it :D

  • Guilty as charged!

  • Then YOU try it and post a better video. Why people feel the need to tear other people's creative endeavors down, I'll never understand.

  • it seems like the only people who notice things outa tune are from people that have been in band for a while XD

  • good attempt. better technology.

  • Well done !

You got all the right notes (just not necessarily in the right order, LOL)

  • Yes! SELL TO NINTENDO! I will buy it, I'm CRAP with electronics. Trully amazing man.

  • he should so do the darth vader theme song on that thing

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!

  • 1st!!!! Yes!!!

  • this is realy cool!! I would buy 1

  • Have you considered selling your idea to Nintendo? I would buy one.

  • This made my dog whine and my speakers beep. haha it was cool though

  • lol

  • wonderful ! i like

  • can a wii do that???

  • Comment removed

  • @604kryptonian "Homemade Wiimote-powered Theremin"

  • No he made it. watch his video about it.

  • Off on a few notes, but good overall.

  • The only problem is the pitch... Cool idea though, props!

  • Instrument for geeks...

  • haha well true...

  • THats freaking amazing

  • awesome, i was just thinking about how to use the wii mote for a theramin the other day. This is perfect, and could make for a fun max patch as the synth. Endless choices for timbre alterations :)

  • admirable attempt, though you need a lot more practice with your theramin, you missed most of the notes... though I honestly couldn't do better because I suck at the theramin

  • oh, wait, wiimote, that's probably why... i get it now, sorry... in that case, very impressive, never thought of using a wiimote like that... but I have converted mine to be used for a regular web cam instead of just NIR blob detection

  • that instrument sounds so goofy lol

  • that must be SO hard to do!!

  • Cool!

  • Hahahahahahahaha...wtf is THIS?

    Hahahahahahahaha...

  • read descriptions before commenting

  • uhm check your intonation....!

  • This is one of the nerdiest things I've ever seen. A+.

  • I know you know where it's bad, cuz I can see the expressions on your face.... but you are a true scifi fan, so it's not like you don't care =) I think this is great!

    Live long and prosper =)

  • thats a very interesting mod of the wii , but it takes even more skill to play a theremin and not mess up the notation , you should have done doctor who , easier to play on a theremin ,

  • I DID the Doctor Who theme... see my other vids....and no, it's not easier to play -- the melody has a 2+1/2 octave jump in it, a bigger jump than I've seen in any other song.

  • Cool :)

  • lol, flat but awesome!!!

  • WONDER SIMPLY WONDERFUL the company should have you make a commercial for the Wii. great job!

  • we are not worthy! we bask in thy halo!

  • ypu could put that in front of your door and whenever someone comes in it would go off lool

  • gr8 idea! would work for car doors as well

  • cool ! ^_^

  • Thank you, you made a Cyborg Anthropologist very happy.

  • I agree with you, it´s no easy to play but you just did your first step so go ahead!!

    cheers! guiye

  • Wii controllers use inferred, I am guessing it is picking up on the inferreds shotting back at the controller, hence the gloves

  • Fucking genius....

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool!

  • Marry me?

  • Very impressive, well done. I need to use more Theremin on my songs... thanks for reminding me of that. Dare you pull off "Dr Who" theme next? v ^_^

  • Yeah! That'd be totally rad!

  • That was awesome.

  • Awesome!

  • How very creative! :D Thats what it's all about!

  • Hahahaha...this is too damn funny. XD

  • Awesome! I request the Dr. Who theme next!

  • Seconded!

  • Yikes!

  • Holy!

  • Great work

  • I actually happen to love the sound. Wooooo-ooooh...ooooo...

  • Where do I get that software?
