  • Hey what oil did you use and is it the same gear ratio as the open diff of a 96 s14

  • @Khmaisnooze what year is your 240sx

  • will a 95-96 j30 work good for a 96 240sx

  • no volume? the j30 vlsd fits perfect onto the s14 with no mods?

  • I have a stock s13 vlsd+HICAS with abs do you know if a j30 driveshaft will fit it? planning on doing a 5 speed swap. Thanks

  • Hey josh what are the torque specs in an s14 for the driveshaft bolts? the axles? and the two bolts that unite the differential with the subframe? thanks!

  • 240 sx

  • hey josh is this included in any of the dvds you sell? if so which one? thnx

  • @mav3rik5 No this footage was going to be a video but ende dup not working out - I plan on doing a full rear end video next year though.

  • Why not clean it up before you install it that thing looked terrible.

  • @Silviastein Some people dont care about that stuff - It wasnt mine.

  • how much oil u need to fill up

  • @gist864 All depends on what diff your using - check your FSM - if you dont have one download them free from my website.

  • haha excuse me man! I did not put enought attention, yes I was trying to ask that haha thanks and sorry for my stupit comment

  • hey man, why dont you chanse the oil without down the lsd?

  • @fedrozx are you trying to ask why we didnt change the gear oil without taking out the open diff? That is because we are doind a swap from an open diff to a J30 VLSD.

  • @joshds25 the j30 diff fits the s13 s14 chassy with no mod ?

  • @Hebert6760 On mods needed are listed in description & below in the comments

  • for an s13, will the driveshaft fit with no problem or will it need to be shorter since the diff is longer?

  • @f14tompil of course it is always "best" to use the correct driveshaft but it has been done and worked just fine using the longer one - so reads the internet - not me.

  • @f14tompil Most of the time people don't need to do anything with the driveshaft.

  • got this last question if you shim the vlsd will it hold up better and last longer before it does not lock any more

  • @b13kouki you should shim it per fsm - I would shim for less clearance but no over spec!

  • any particular gear oil i should use

  • @b13kouki I use redline

  • does the vlsd ever heat up to the point were only one wheel works

  • @b13kouki it works like all oem vlsds - the answer is yes if your using crappy gear oil and driving the piss out of it.

  • - 92-94 J30 diffs you need to use the J30 axles (half shafts) or swap the output shafts with the stock 240sx

    - Later model 94 J30 have the 6 bolt output shafts and axles so use these with no mods (which we did in this video)

    - 95-96 J30 will work no mods needed - You can use the stock 240sx axles.

    - All the J30 diffs listed above is .75" longer than the stock 240sx diff & have a 3.916 gear ratio (will still work with no problems)

    - Stock 240sx ratio is : 4.0836

  • @joshds25 I just swapped it out but the when I put in the VLSD I couldnt fit the closed end of the wrench on there because the input shaft part is too tight. I did alright with just the open end though. Thanks for the vid though helped a lot!

  • @69albanian69 I use a craftsman ratching wrench with zero problems - not sure why you guys are having such an issue

  • I always use a ratching wrech with no problems at all s13 or S14

  • @joshds25 All right thanks, I have a ratcheting wrench and a regular 14mm wrench but I couldnt fit either on the J30 Driveshaft bolts so I was thinking I maybe cannot do the same on my s13.

  • I couldn't fit the closed end part of the wrench on the driveshaft bolts when I pulled a J30 vlsd, I had to pull out the driveshaft and cut the bolts since I could only fit the open end on there and I ended up stripping those bolts. Is the s13 open diff tight like that too? Will I have that same problem taking out my stock driveshaft bolts like I did with the J30

  • Awesome video.

  • THANX MAN

  • so it wont be great for drifting then see im new at this so i dont no that much

  • @b13kouki yes it should be just fine

  • its a VLSD just like the rest of the VLSDs - its not a 1 or 2 way

  • hey man does it really work for drifting the j 30s vlsd because im looking to do the same thing

  • coool vid , but no sound :<

  • Its in fast forward - if you want music play a cd - I hate it when people put music on videos like this

  • @yohnpbeatz I think he meant sound as in you guys giving some commentary or something about the process. I agree random music in videos like this are annoying.

  • @1Enkyo No sound I was actually making a VLSD install video and it turned out bad - as people there were not be very video freindly so I scraped it and put it up on here for viewing pleasure. The VLSD video will be coming out maybe this summer.

  • @joshds25 YAY!

  • i couldnt get the bolts that were with the bushings so i just left the junkyard....

  • Not sure what you are talking about here?

If its about the blts being tight - yes they are - I always use a pipe to get more leverage.

  • did you remove the gas tank? and did you have to use the j30 shafts i know u have to switch the diff cover but what else did u have to use?

  • No we did not remove the gas tank - the mounting bolts on the rear are a little hard to get to but just dont use an extension and you should be good.

As for the J30 diff - we used a later 94' J30 which uses the same axles (halfshafts) as the 240sx.

93' and early 94' J30 diffs use the 5 bolt halfshafts.

Later 94'-96' J30 diffs use the 6 bolts halfshafts like the 240sx.

We did not switch the diff cover. You will need to on a S13 chassis though.
