What is with everyone here? Fry is not talking exclusively about religious types. He's talking about how almost everyone expands these two words: including blacks, Muslims, Christians, homosexuals, you name it. No, rationalism seeks the best solution to an impossible-to-conquer question. How do you solve the debt crisis? Is there a mathematical formula that will answer that question or some other scientific solution? Will we ever know when it is actually solved, or will there be fallout our actions to try and "solve" it?
We don't know; but we can argue, and through rationalism come to a conclusion that will (hopefully) result in the best outcome. Rationalism is a process more than a finale.

The difference between the "extremists" and the "moderates" is not that the "moderates" have a "deeper" understanding of religion, the difference is that the extremists took that mode of non-thinking to it's illogical conclusion.

Well this applies to both the religious and atheist. Atheist says: I'm offended by that because I don't believe in god. Theist says: I'm offended because I believe in god.
Honestly everyone is a bunch of cry babies. Learn to let things go, as long as you are not being forced to do something against your will then just shut it. There has been and never will be a good reason to harbor such hate over world views and beliefs.

So atheism is the new religion? Everyone's too busy clamouring to praise and play sycophant to the "gods" Fry and Dawkins that they forget how mindlessly they are following doctrine without any personal input other than believing they must act snide and hate Christians.
Do we really have so much spare time as to waste it blasting others' belief systems in the hope of furthering our own? I thought atheism tried to combat being told "what to do" but all I see are anti-Christians in their droves!
