The sea shepherd is famous...sorry, notorious for trying to use the rules of the road to portray other vessels to be at fault but it is clearly stated in the International Collision Regulations that all vessels are REQUIRED to avoid collision even if they are the stand on vessel, and that the evasive action is to be practiced "immediatly upon the risk of collision becoming apparent". The adi gil was moving slowly forward the entire time until it throttled up within the last few seconds.
It is clear that the Adi Gil maneuvered in front of the whaling ship. The vessel moved forward about 5 seconds before impact, and this can be undoubtedly noticed by the prop wash or jet wash (not sure if it's a jet pump).
