  • Tower: "We've got some cross traffic on the field. Columbia, take a wave-off and go around."

    Columbia: "Um ... Okay ..."

  • This is all just a memory now....all of the Shuttle missions......gotta keep the focus and instead waste billions of dollars on the lazy and the DNA challenged scum of society, rather than on NASA. How proud you libs must feel!

  • John Young is the coolest man alive.

  • @imranite Ha, I just posted the same comment on the new "STS-1 launch" video posted today on the NASAKennedy channel, (they won't let me paste the link).

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only JY fan :)

  • must feel so good finally stopping after millions of miles

  • WHat a cool as a breeze landing, great piloting.

  • Dude if you think that sterilise yourself stop your tardness from spreadng

  • @knmurphy1 yeah like god

  • they always ferry the space shuttle from one place to another on-top of the modified B747, called SCA, or Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, because it's the economically easiest way to do this, and if you notice, when ferrying the shuttle on the SCA with an aerodynamic tailcone, to avoid terbulences around the SSME pod.

  • The hell? They carried the Shuttle ontop of an airplane? lol, did not know that.

  • @xBiocide yea whenever they land somewhere besides KSC they have to ferry it back on top of another plane. most of the time it just lands there by itself though.

  • i thot that space shuttles had drag shoots

  • A lot of things changed as the Shuttle program progressed. If you watch footage of the first few launches, you'll notice that the external tank is painted white. they stopped THAT I think because of the massive weight savings. I think that they instituted drag chutes when the Shuttle Landing Facility at the Cape went active because even though it's 3 miles long, it's still a concrete runway that doesn't afford the extra stopping room that the dry lake bed at Edwards does.

  • 95 % of landings at Edwards are on runway 22 which is concrete and 3 miles long also. The reason the chute was added is the axle and brakes were seeing to much stress and wear. So the axle, and brakes were beefed up along with nose wheel steering. Then the chute was added.

  • @IamTheEditor Yeah, weight was the main issue. Something you wouldn't think would weigh so much....does. haha...

  • The drag chute was added with the introduction of Endeavour in 1991

  • smiley face = )

  • listen to the background music.

it's a blatant copy/rip of "Single Serving Jack" by the Dust Brothers created for the film "Fight Club". i'm sure it was ripped because they couldn't get the rights to use one of the most awesome technobreak songs out there.

  • wow
