Your synchros are gunna love you. And your two piece tailshaft. And your stock stub axles. And your stock clutch. Get a BMR Fabrications one piece aluminium (yep aluminium, not aluminum, somehow you crazy kids in America dropped an i out of there somewhere) tailshaft, while you're on the phone to them order a set of stub axles and cv's. Then ring summit and order a TrueTrac and then order a set of 3.91 diff gears. And don't forget the Textralia Z-Grip clutch. Trust me, I speak from experience.
@dynamytedave It doesn't really sound like you are speaking from experience.
LOL Thanks for the advice....I just need to find a money tree now.
My stock clutch acutally lasted 66k and about 100passes before I started having problems. My tailshaft isn't aluminum though, the tailshaft housing is. My DRIVESHAFT on the otherhand, is still the stock 2 piece. 450/414 to the wheels, 150+ passes on sticky tires, and haven't had a problem with anything Same goes for the stock stubs and axles.
@gconnoyer Gimme your email address and I'll send you some happy snaps of blown rubber couplings and shot driveshafts. If that's not experience, I don't what is. How many k's on your car? Mine had about 115,000km's on it when the clutch decided to take a holiday. I replaced it with another standard clutch and it gave up after about 15,000kms. Then I upgraded to a Textralia Z-Grip. That's when the driveshaft and rubber couplings clapped out thanks to the harder launches.
My car has about 133,000km's on it...and the clutch was replaced 32,000km ago because it was slipping and not disengaging. If you're saying a Stage 3 Monster or Mcleod RXT isn't enough grip to break parts then I need to upgrade to the Tex.
I don't need to see your broken parts.
My rubber couplings aren't torn or cracked, but I am getting a DSS One piece.
I'm not really sure what you're bickering about, Stock driveline, and nothing broken....the end.
@gconnoyer I'm not bickering champ, I was only trying to offer some advise on upgrades that you will more than likely need to undertake given what you have done to the car and the type of usage that the car is seeing. I travelled down that road, and if I knew back then what I know now, I would've upgraded the parts and not suffered any failures. By the looks of things, I may drive mine a bit harder than you drive yours.
@dynamytedave i don't see any track videos from your experience. stock everything in the drivetrain has lasted just as long in my car as it has in gregs and we are identical mod for mod. if i was keeping my car i'd throw another stock clutch back in it since they are so cheap. carry one in the trailer just incase...unless the car absolutely dead hooks the clutch drivetrain and clutch are fine. and i've dead hooked before and it just drives through the clutch.
@drgbyu Umm, probably because I don't need to validate my masculinity by posting in-car videos of myself on a run. Just because I have no vids of my car on the net, doesn't mean that I don't know what I'm talking about. I'll offer you the same as your buddy above, send me your email and I'll furnish you with all the details and pics you require to enjoy your meal of crow.
Why did you put it in neutral while the car was moving? I see people doing that all the time and I'm curious to know why? I was taught to only put in the clutch right before the car starts to buck while coming to a stop. Never into neutral while the car was moving. Not trying to bust on you, sorry if it seems that way. Nice GTO
@IrishChris1979 because there is no reason to leave it in gear. Unless you need to extra help to stop from engine braking (leaving it in gear) there is no reason. Waste of gas.
@gconnoyer In my corvette when I leave it in gear from a down shift I check my instant mpg computer and with the rpm's at 4k it says I am getting 99 mpg, meaning it is using very little gas. I was also taught this when I got my Class A CDL about nine years ago. They said at my school >After we teach you the right way, anybody who throws it in neutral while the truck is moving automaticly fails the course. They said you do not have full control of the vehicle while it is moving in neutral.
Sorry, I ran out of room. It's cool though, I used to do the same thing and I never had an accident. I guess if you rev match while going back into gear it wouldn't be bad for it. Again, sorry if it seems like I'm starting an argument with you. I just wanted to know the reason and it was the same reason why I used to do it. Thanks for the response. -Chris
Well, thanks for the replies! Best of luck with your amazing GTO :)
As soon as the 05's came out, I loved the GTO right away. The 04's aren't bad or anything, I just like the hood scoops, split dual exhaust and the LS2 engine obviously. Enjoy it.
hahaha No but I DD my car so when I'm not at the track I try to pull as many MPGs out of a 400whp car as I can. I could give a shit less about wasting gas....wasting money when you dont have to is what I worry about

What does she put down to the tire man? I just bought a stock 05 GTO and plan on having Tick performance tune my car. They are within an hour of me.

@IrishChris1979
I agree you do have more control leaving it in gear.
Depending on the track I'm running on and the shutdown area I'll leave it in gear but just driving on the street I just throw it in neutral.
