I think the CNC could do the tapers but even with a ball nose mill it would leave some ridges that would have to be cleaned up with a chisel. It really doesn't take much time to chisel them by hand and I like working with hand tools too.

I guess it would have been pretty difficult to get the CNC to approximate those tapers?
