  • Great playing-- even better Canadian accent:)

  • When you said that Strat had Texas Pickups, I thought about SRV straight away. Then when you played Riviera Paradise, I was like, yeah, SRV fan ftw. Nice amp and great playing man! Cheers!

  • @joshua9312 Sorry, I mean Lenny.

  • Maritimer, I see?

  • not much of an electric player ? :D still you own two very expensive guitars :D

  • Great chops and great sound

  • @veerchasm1 Thanks a lot man. Good to see this vid is still getting views and such. I will upload some vids more recent than 2009 soon. Ive been puttin a lot of practice in.

  • @RobbyBobbins Hey Robby. I understand that P90s are single coils, but I meant the typical SC found in most strats or teles. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for answering the other poster's question

  • @joshmacfarlanemusic is Vox AC4TV good for metalcore? :D sorry for noob question :) i just wonder if i use it with boss ml2 sound it good or not? do you use it with effects?

  • @SilentKRock Most amps would not sound good with the ML2. This is not exactly the most high gain amp out there which I think would be needed for "metalcore". Im sure you could get some sounds out of it that you would dig though

  • @SilentKRock Honestly kid it depends on your idea of metalcore. If you mean like the style of underOath with is actually what metalcore is then yes. Although an Orange Tiny Terror would do even better as they have a better distortion and that is also the brand of amp that Tim from underOath uses. But don't get caught up on watts. 15 to 30 is plenty for any genre. even in an arena. because in an arena you'd have to mic it if it was 4w or 300w. So I'd suggest for you an Orange Tiny Terror.

  • @SilentKRock Josh is also very correct about the pedal thing too. No metal distortion pedal really sounds good. If you want raunchy metal tone. you need a good amp and crank that bad boy to 11! well 10, but 11 sounds so much better. That's why the low wattage is great. could you imagine a 300w amp cranked all the way? No thank you! So you could get this and blast it or an Orange. You could even look into the Marshall Class 5. But it's too high for the price. I want the AC4TV myself for church.

  • @SilentKRock I would say not good for metalcore......

  • haha a very slow whole lotta love solo in there, good demo man

  • @MattCupz Right when I was trying to work it out ;) Thanks a lot

  • @joshmacfarlanemusic no probs ahah, ordered teh stack version yesterday. cant wait for it to arrive.

  • Is this amp louder than my marshall mgfx30?

  • Is this amp loder than my marshall mgfx30?

  • Lovin the bottle of Keiths!

  • @cnjemmons Ive had one or two of them

  • whats the differnce between the vox ac4tv and ac4tvh(the wide one)?thanks!btw thats not shitty playing..

  • @TheOldGooseberry same tubes the only diff is that the ac4tvh has a 12 in speaker......this one has the 10 that is the only diff

  • is it loud

  • @ecgedsel Compared to what? It can fill up a small room pretty well, but its a 4 watt amp. Dont expect mind blowing volume. It does push a decent amount for such a small wattage amp though

  • are you canadian? I see an alexander keiths on your table haha

  • @McScottson Yeah I am! Im from Ottawa. Great place :D

  • @joshmacfarlanemusic HURRAY CANADA! YAY VOX

  • k. idk if it is an actual song, but if the song you play at the very beginning is reminiscent of a song...what is it? It seems like everyone who demos an amp plays it lol.

  • @LProcker9798 that song right at start is Lenny by Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • @LProcker9798

Sounds a little bit like Little Wing.

  • what was the first song you were playing, for some reason i cant remember the name of it

  • @SumThenfancy Hey! First song is called Lenny by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Thanks for watchin!

  • you can put a dist. pedal in this little amp??? sorry, my english is bad =)

  • @grungesin95 Hey, sorry for the late response. It takes pedals really well, as long as you set it clean to begin with

  • Next do a review of that Keith's. Say stuff like "compact design", "budget friendly", and "perfect for dorm room use".

  • Is there a way to safely hook up headphones to the output on the back? (Sorry, music and amp noobie here)

  • @foobarmaru yes there is

  • You're playing just the guitar and the vox ac4tv amp right? That's a freakin' awesome sound your making there.thumbs up

  • hey guys i need some help! i really like this amp, but! is it loud enough to gig with without being mic'd w/ a blues drummer?

  • @p3droski i've got the ac4tvh with the box and it's loud enough for jammin with the whole band...its loud enough too for little gigs ...i dont know if this amp without the box is agressiv enough for an whole band...just try it in the store

  • How much does the amp hum at 4 watts?

  • @DSilvergun Hey, it really depends on exterior factors. Depending on the pickups in your guitar and the electrical devices (Lights, computers etc) around you it may hum a bit. Its not an overpowering hum, more of that warm sound that tube amps make when theyre turned on.

  • can u play led zep with that? great vid btw

  • @Baxiguo Pagey used an AC30 in the studio a lot apparently, so you could probably get something resembling a Zep tone. This amp is definitely Vox in character.

  • It seems like a fun amp to play. Your chops aren't bad at all your on your way just by whatever I'm hearing here in your vid.

  • Keiths all the way!

  • Hey man i just got an ac15 i have this buzz problem is it just from lights in my room? feeding through the amp? It bugs the hell out of me.

  • Hey, I appreciate your contribution! I'm kinda really leaning towards a AC15 with the 10" Celestion blue alnico. I live in a small apartment with neighbors, I was just wondering what your opinion was on purchasing such an amp for the purpose of mellow bedroom practice? Thank you.

  • @tonymedina34 If you have neighbors be carefully I own the AC4tv8 (the one that antenuator goes to 1/10 watt) And It has a big sound!!!! I thought my neighbors will kill me If play more than two hours without stop....

  • @Niampazampabigband do play just with an that amp or what?

  • @dubbly1 no I have another solid state of 15 watts that has a crap sound, but in terms of volume is completely silent comparing to the Vox ac4 tv 8, and I have a Peavy classic 50 made in USA (and old one) of 50 watts alltube, and I often play with some heads (Marshalls and create) with 4x12" (when we practice check out my videos with "Partner Blanca")

my comment was only and advice for the people thinking in buying one of those amps to practice at a flat.

  • hey man awesome review pickin up a stack on the weekend your video helped alot with that decision :) quick question your probably sick of though... how does it handle metal distortion???

  • I love these amps. However, I have a beef with both Vox and Fender concerning the use of the phrase "all tube." Yes, they have preamp and power tubes, but unless they have tube rectifiers, they are not "all tube, but part tube and part solid state.

The AC4 and amps like the Fender Super Champ are marketed as all tube when this is clearly not the case. If you want all tube, then an AC15 or Fender Deluxe Reverb qualify. The AC4, Champion 600 and amps like them are not all tube. And that's a fact.

  • Unless it has a tube rectifier, it's not all tube. Love the AC4, just sayin...

  • I own Vox amps and love it too, just like i said. I was just taking issue with these amp company's marketing wanks playing fast and loose with the term "all tube."

I love the AC4 half stack with the 12 inch speaker cab. An amazing improvement over the combo which already sounds great.

I had to rule it out though, when it came time to shell out some money last week. In the end I went with the Fender Super Champ XD. It's a fantastic amp and much more useful for me then the AC4, for now anyway.

  • @OnlyVees

This is wrong. The rectifier is not part of the signal path. It's a rectifier; look up what they do.

  • Man, I really like the VOX amps, but it just seems like Fender tube amps like the Blues Junior and Hot Rod Deluxe always sound much nicer. Thats just my opinion, though.

  • I was over at a friends house and noticed he had a 16 ohm 4 12 cab. I hooked up my ac4tv combo and it sounded absolutely incredible. It was amazingly loud for 4 watts; could even get over a reasonable drummer. The dirty sounds were every bit as good as the cleans. I think this is a great circuit; the speaker could possibly benefit from an upgrade. When you hook it up to the right cab; it doesn't sound small at all; and of course takes care of any problems of the cab rattling.

  • Very nice sound in the demo. Mine was delivered today and it sounds nothing like this. I also don't like the way you have to use the volume control to alter the type of sound (clean/dirty). In my opinion it should be possible to have a clean or dirty sound both at the same volume. The dirty sound on my amp is horrible. The metal casing vibrates horribly (mainly but not only whenever I play a D). It's a lovely looking amp and I want to like it but I feel it's going to have to go back.

  • The fact is that this is a TUBE amp, and it means that the only way to control the dirtyness is the volume ^^.

Ah, and if you want to have both clean and dist at the same level, go buy a 2-channel head.

  • If the amp had a master volume then the problem would be solved, wouldn't it?

  • It might work if you use the output selector switch to get a clean sound by going on 4 watts at a lower volume, and for a dirty sound use 1 watt at a higher volume

  • Even doing this, the dirty sound is pretty horrible. Not exactly Black Sabbath.

  • You may just have to use a pedal for it, I might get an AC4TV, but I think I'll get the head and cab version instead of the combo

  • It's definitely a nice amp for everything other than metal. Trouble is, I want to play everything from Floyd to Sabbath.

I've tried distortions from my Boss ME50 through it but it isn't quite right..

Some people say proper pedals (rather than digital modelling) sound fine through it. Maybe that's the problem.

The main problem it doesn't sound good is probably my ability. It's easy to sound good if all you're doing is bashing out distorted power chords/riffs. This amp will force me to practise.

  • @CDeeRoll buy a vox satchurator pedal cos' they play one through this amp in the official demo and it sounds great

  • Cheers - where is the official demo?

  • I agree with CDeeRoll about the digital modelling; i own a big muff and when I fed it in the amp, it's just smooth (and not mental trebly fuzzy) sustain and so-creamy sound. But I think it won't suit metal anyway, the overdrive is too "voxish". And for the volume issue, I have a clean boost pedal, I use it when I have a clean sound on the amp, and with the boost it gets nicely overdriven.

The overdrive pedals (aka BOSS SD-1) sound nice too.

  • Comment removed

  • I love the sound you're getting with the PRS SE at the start, nice and fat with a slight hint of bite

  • Keith's all the way!!! also I'm seriously considering getting this amp now great video! :)

  • ok...can you play it live? How LOUD can it get at 4 watts cranked up fully?

  • If that's shit playing, I don't know what to call mine.. :(

  • I am looking for a good tube amp that's affordable. I just need a good sounding amp cos i am getting an effects pedal board called Boss ME70. It's also a pre-amp.

Would this amp be a good option?

  • great playing

  • Ok, so I'm after a classic Jimi Hendrix sound

allthough at a bedroom sound level, and so far I've concluded that this little amp is what will get me closest. I've checked out, though not tried, the Marshall Class 5 and Haze 15, but they all seem to loud for bedroom playing. What would you say? Does it give you that sweet Hendrix sound? How does it work with stomp boxes? Have any of you any other suggestions on other amps I should check out? Thanks!

  • What was the Stevie Ray Vaughn song you played?

  • that one was called Lenny, great song

  • lenny is an AMAZING song.

  • @joshmacfarlanemusic Yeah it was writen for lenny from motorhead.

  • @christhekiwi12 hahahaha :D

  • @christhekiwi12 The song lenny that he is playing was written for Stevie ray vaughns guitar. He named it lenny.

  • Can you play over drums with this amp?

  • you would need to make some sort of platform to play this amp over drums, you could hang it over a drum kit but it might fall and break the drums. In my opinion your better off playing this amp next to the drums rather than over them.

  • lmao

  • @christhekiwi12 :D Best response ever

  • Yes but it you have to crank it on 4 watts which means it'll be dirty.

  • Will this amp be audible beside or at least in the same room as a set of drums playing? Like for band practices and such? I'm planning to buy this online and the problem is I can't test it before purchasing. Advice much needed. Thanks for your help!

  • would anyone recommend this with a mt-2 metal zone with the keeley mod for playing speed/ thrash. i need a good sound that is quiet enough for an apt. any help would be appreciated thanks.

  • I just got this amp a few hours ago, and it is incredible. Smooth clean vintage tone, awesome marshall sounding crunch, and awesome bluesy breakup. But even on the 1/4 watt setting i wont be able to really crank it at night, its loud!!!!!!

  • Cheers dude, nice review.

  • why get another amp when u have a deluxe reverb? lol

  • Haha, the DRRI is my go to amp, always. But I needed something I could get a nice tube saturation out of, and to crank the DRRI at bedroom levels just doesnt work when you live in a townhouse. Deluxe is my fave amp though, always

  • true. you definetely can't get the full tone such a low volume. Im about 90 percent set on buying this amp tomorrow, and had a question. Do you think this is a good amp for clean hendrix like tones, and chili peppers funk? sounds like it has a good amount of compression, and i absolutely love the tone

  • Yeah you can for sure, on the fur watt setting it gets a nice clean, throw in a strat a la frusciante or hendrix and you got it man.

  • nice! thanks man. im going to sam ash as soon as i get paid tomorrow!!!!!!

  • Dude, you pulled some sweet tones outta there. You actually play really well, too.

  • Got this amp a few days ago, and I am loving it more and more as time goes by. I run a BBE sonic stomp maximizer after my pedals, and it helps for EQing and really opens up the tone. I think it sounds better through the 10 inch speaker than hooking it up to my Marshall 4 x 12 cab.

  • Thanks for your answer, based on your video, I went out and bought one. It's excellent, it'll be perfect for band practice too in my friend's garage, just right.. I wish that they made a 45-watter with the same decor and no frills, just volume and tone. Amps like Fender's Hot Rod and even Blues DeVille have too much extra stuff on it. I wish they made a 45 tube amp, one 12" speaker and just volume and tone or volume, treble, mid and bass and that's it, no master volume.

  • Hi, Marshall Amp Man, check out Dr Z's Carmen Ghia, just volume and tone, and only 18watts, but incredibly loud and a sound to die for, just a thought.

  • look at bluebreakers jtm 45 tiny terror. just a few off the top of my head

  • can u plug it into a cab?

  • yes 16 ohm

  • really nice demo. So is the various wattage settings similar to a solid state doing an overdrive?

  • the volume going up is like a solid state doing overdrive. The wattage turns the "loudness" down if that makes any sense. Basically at 1/4 you can turn the volume all the way up and make it crunch like crazy but it won't be too loud.

  • How loud is it at 1/4W, compared to a SS amp?

  • dont know what SS amp is but its loud enough so you can sit near it and play if you put the volume down to 1/4

i almost only use the 1/4W, 1W sometimes if its day and i want a good clean sound, and only 4W with guitar volume put to minimum just to see how that fully cranked tube amp mute sound sounds. great sound

  • Solid State amp.. transistors one.

Thanks for the answer.. It still feels like a bit loud for a living room I think

  • i always wear earplugs

  • the popularity of these amps is for two main uses: recording and home practice.

around the house you can get tube responsiveness (play softer get clean, hit harder get distortion) at lower volumes to not bug everyone. RECORDING: get great big sound at lower volumes. mic'd these amps sound huge and true tube sound. i now collect low watt tube amps (usually around 5 watts) for recording and can get balls out overdriven sounds without it being painfully loud or getting noise complaints. the RULE.

  • Hey All,

I am planning to get this AMP. However i have 3 questions about it.

1 Can this amp sound clean at higher volumes?

2 Will this amp handle Heavy Metal Distortion too?

3 Is this amp loud for 4 Watts? If yes can i do a gig with it in say a 3000 square foot Auditorium?

  • 1. no unless plugged in to a bigger cab...but i dont see how it could get that loud.

    2. with a pedal yes. w/o no.

    3. I have a 5 watt fender champ and there is no way that a 4 watt can handle, although tube, that much space. Get something bigger at least say 15-30 watts tube...dont need much more than that unless you're a freaking crazy gigger.

    4. however...there is always the option of mic'ing the amp in to the house.

  • you couldn't hook it up to a cabinet thou?

that would give it more headroom, i'm thinking of doing this

  • you could, i think it has a external speaker cab jack...but ive hooked my 5 watt in to a 8 ohm 2x12

not that much of a difference in sound, it was louder, but not by much (in contrast to gigging with it.)

  • says in some review it only takes 16 ohms

  • i was talking about my 5 watt champ

sorry for the confusion : )

  • Hi there...

1 this amp only as a volume and a drive control, and it's on the same knob, which basically means that when you crank the the volume a bit, it will distort, so at high volumes it will easily overdrive.

2 it overdrives easily, but you won't even be able to play something that will need a little more distortion, unless you have a distortion pedal.

3 no way man, not by himself, you would have to mike it and plug it to a PA

    cheers i hope it helps

  • I do have a VOX Satchurator distortion Pedal, DO you think that can do the trick

  • Yes, that will provide some distortion :D, but if you r not sure go to a music store that has this ac4tv, take the pedal and try it out, to see if they sound good together...

  • Thanks a Lot Man, I am going to try this amp out 2moro, I was just waiting for the weekend so I could check this AMP Out......India has very few options in terms of Good Tube Amps, I mean something of this size.:) Hence i got to stick with it.

  • does the Ac4Tv takes pedals well?

  • i'm considering getting one of these, as my AC30 is just too loud to use out of a band practice, do you recommend??

  • your playing isn't shitty!

  • Have you played the Fender Pro Jr. ? what was your impression if you did?

  • Yeah I have played one, we sell them at the store i work at. Same basic idea as this except without the attenuator. Its a nice sounding fender clean though, it must be cranked up pretty loud to get the overdriven sounds though unfortunately

  • Which sounds best in your opinion. Is the clean better on the Pro Jr or AC4TV? same question for overdrive. thanks dude

  • pro is better clean, ac is better OD, ac is more versatile

  • at 2:07 i ceamed my pants

    what perfect tone

  • Guitar Center currently has this on sale for $199, 8/20/09. I like it better than the Fender Champion 600.

  • wow thats a fantastic price

  • Well, after watching your video, I went back to GC and got it. Thanks man for your video. Incredible tone I'm getting with it, specially with my road worn with MIM TEX MEX pickups.

  • good amp to play arctic monkeys songs??

  • Very good. It gets that nice clean sound they usually use.

  • Nice playing dude... do you know if there is a big difference between the 8" and the 10" speaker regarding the sound? Is it worth it to upgrade to the 10"? I got the 8 by mistake...

  • well the 10 inch will be much fuller sounding and will project the sound a lot better, you should be able to hear quite a noticeable difference

  • GC has both and I played both. The 10" is certainly fuller sounding and punchier. But, the 8" didn't sound bad at all though, and it blows away the Champ 600. I was able to talk the salesman to sell me the 10" model for the same price as the 8" model of $199 out the door with tax already included. :)

  • damn what is that first song you play, it's on the tip of my tongue

  • That would be Lenny by SRV my friend, thanks for watchin

  • sorry make that 3:00

  • another you, by John Mayer ;) If its the on on about 3:30 your talking about

  • No, I was talking about Lenny.

  • those this amp have and headphone output?

  • no unfortunately no headphone output

  • Nice Keith's in the background. Good choice.

Picking up this amp in a week.

  • Great demo; now I really want one of these.

    dammit.

  • is this amp loud enough for a bedroom jam and would the head and cab version be better than the combo even though its like $100 more?

  • Hmm well if youve got the extra dough might as well spend it, the cab has a 12 inch speaker compared to the combos 10 inch so i think itll be worth it for sure. The combo is just so portable though, I love it

  • Thanks,do you know where this amp is made?

  • Comment removed

  • great demo, playing well. like fact you played and not just talked explaining, also fact straight into amp. did good job

  • lovin the beer next to the amp

  • it does hum a lot thou, even so much that it feels like a problem on this side of the screen.

    how bad is it?

  • not bad at all in real life really, the fluorescent lights make it hum alot through the cam, and im on the neck pup of a p90 guit, so some hum is expected

  • I got this amp today and it hums just a little, great amp!

  • i also got it, yeah, it doens't hum too myuch

gets warm thou, im a little worried for the tubes.

i love the way there's only one volume knob and when you turn it up over half it gets disted, that's an honest amp, none of that gain and master and digital bullshit.

    pure tube warem

  • aw real tube sound, breask my heart they couldn't bring any of this to the VT series.

i'll never get another modeling amp, from now on its strictly tone tubes and effectpanels or through the computer

how loud is it compared to the sound you get? it sound pretty loud but looks small enough for a bedroom with thin walls

    thinking of buying

    thx

  • i want this amp, not sure if i should get the head with cab (which is pretty expensive) or just the combo?

    any suggestions?

  • u should probably get a combo, much more moveable, then a stack.

  • Thanks for the demo!

  • Great demo. I'm waiting for the UPS guy with mine as I type. I've got a Frankenstrat w/ the Texas Specials too, but I'm guessing those P-90s are at least in the same ballpark.

  • Comment removed

  • Ah good one man, I didnt know this was a review on my clothes.

  • Nice tone and playing. I'm loving the John Mayer Trio at 4:43.

  • how loud can this amp get with a good cabinet?

  • Thanks for doing this. Good playing also.

    Cheers,

  • please add a video of this with a strat, would love to see it

  • Wow! I never heard anything made by Vox that wasn't at least decent, but from the tech specs, I'd never have guessed it would be capable of a tone this bright. I think with my solid maple extension cab with the vintage 30 in it, this would be perfect for recording. Any time I wanted a little extra gain, I'd use my SD twin tube classic. It needs a mid control though, otherwise I'd be drowning out vocals. That's a mod that anyone can do though. Nice job Vox! Good demo too! Thanks...

  • ye that's true. the vox logo has always given me thought.

they have ac30s around all the guitar stores and they stand there brilliantly in the middle like old relics while the marshall amps hang in the corner.

even the digital DA5 had its upsides. and the VT sound nice creamed. But you can't get it clean as good or mix as much as you'd feel

  • Yeah, I guess Vox is kinda the end-all for me too. Pricey though. I actually played through this ac4tv since I posted that comment, and it was a little buzzy with the breakup. I think a ragin cajun 10" would clean that up, and then add an external cab with an old 15" jensen (if you can find one) and this would be a nice amp. But you still need a good tube preamp with lots of knobs on it, because this amp is bare bones. The VT series are by far the warmest hybrids I've ever heard, creamy and rich

  • ps forgot to add,way better guitarist than i am.keep rockin dude!!!
