May Ian's soul rest in peace. Nothing will bring him back to life. I hope his wife will find the strength to move on. Please pray for her. I feel sad because they were joking about shark while at Denis Island. My dad told me a story about a shark while working there. It killed a dog and they managed to captured and dragged it out with the help of a vehicle. It was an injured shark, probably sick to hunt for food. Never heard of any human killed by shark at home before these two incidents.
I just think its common sense to do research before swimming in tropical water. I know I do, I go to Florida a lot, I love swimming but will not entertain swimming in New Smyrna Beach a local spot to us, its just too dangerous for me, but I have a keen interest in sharks anyway. I understand that this is 1 of only 3 attacks since the 50's, but there are always going to be sharks in waters like these, its just unfortunate...
They need to get rid of that shark. If it is a white shark, it has no business there and should be eliminated. There are hundreds of beaches, diving and snorkelling area in Seychelles and they've been safe till now. The shark needs to be eliminated because it has lost its fear of human. The water needs to remain safe for tourists and local. It's the same tourist industry which allows Seychelles to have 50% of its territory under protection, maintain great 2 world heritage sites.
@jaalexis2002 The shark is in its natural habitat, why on earth should it be hunted? You take your life into your own hands when swimming in tropical water. Its ridiculous to start hunting just because it has killed two people, well who knows, it could be 2 different sharks? Its all guess work, sharks migrating from South Africa will come straight through the Seychelles. If you are splashing around, and you generally are when snorkling then you make yourself a direct meal for a hungry shark
@plazmanian Thousands of locals and tourists have been splashing around in Seychelles for years and years without incidents. Sharks are protected in seychelles against finning because we do protect them. What has happened is out of the ordinary and we need out of the ordinary measures. There are many reasons why people go into the sea, it's not just for leisure. In view of the specificity of Seychelles, our activities, facilities, livehood with the sea, we cannot permit such a killer beast.
@plazmanian I completely agree, accept sharks don't usually eat humans! they don't like the taste, its much more likely they just mistake humans for other types of prey. To hunt a shark in its natural habitat is barbaric! If you don't want to be bitten then don't swim in its lunch box!
Anyone with a minute amount of knowledge with regards to lieing will know that his reacton at 0:19 os a blatant lie. "Yes of course, yes" blink look away
@plazmanian It was common knowledge and accepted that a shark made the attack on the 1st of August. It was the first ever and that is in a country where people swim, dive and snorkle for years without such incident. It was well stated in Le Figaro etc, local news of 1st august and in the Seychelles nation magazine 2 and 4 august 2011 that it was a shark attack and this had not happened before. Something unknown to Seychelles, it was a first time someone is attack by a shark close to the beach.
I see what you guys are saying, but its not like this guy begged to be asked questions. The media came to him...not the other way around....and not to be crass, but it was only a 2 week period since the last attack at the same place....and that was no secret.
I don't like this mans comments or the way he is delivering them. Gemma specifically said she asked the receptionist about the possibility of sharks in local waters and was told confidently that it was safe. I dont know if this man has perhaps misunderstood but he should not be broadcasting such views to the worlds media when family and friends are still coming to terms with what happened and grieving for Ians loss. Ian was a great guy, he would never go against advice of this nature. RIP
