Wrong sir... he was a siberian husky first of all and was not found on the streets. He was bread although he was never meant to breed himself. But ya he was a "dirty face" not a wolf. 100 percent husky.
Balto was a Siberian Husky with a "dirty face". But he wasn't from a long line of great sled dogs or they wouldn't have neutered him at a young age--they would have wanted to use him to breed. He was still great. One musher said that Balto lead his team safely through a storm so bad he couldn't even see his own hands. He's still the same hero, whether he's a wolf or a dog. I'm pretty sure that's the whole concept of the movie.
If you guys were true Balto fans, you would know he is a Siberian Husky. His build supports that and just because his markings dont does not mean he is part wolf.
he's half wolf..I know this because first of all I have met with his "owners" relatives, second of all I studied him in college and third of all, you can tell just by friggin looking at him!
Balto was a purebred Siberian Husky. The part wolf thing was an added plot device in the movie. Togo was the lead dog for the longer part of the run from Nenana to Nome, he was mich better known than Balto before the run. Balto was the lead dog for the last day and a half, he guided the dogs through the night and avoided danger very well on two separate occasions, saving the team. Both dogs were great, and both should be recognized.
A movie is a movie, a movie can be based on true events but not everything in the movie is going to be the same 100% tings are going to be exaggered/ added/ changed... made more suspenseful or interesting, I'm just saying not everything in movies are 100% accurate even in movies that made after a book.
Why are people surprised or disgusted that they stuffed him? Haven't you ever been to a museum with stuffed animals? I mean if you can't handle Balto, a legend and a hero, being stuffed, then do yourself a favor and never visit the Museum of Natural History
LOL sadly guys i dont wanna ruin your hopes and dreams, but Balto was actually a none mixed full siberian husky..thats right he was never mixed, also Togo did much more then balto..poor togo, and balto was neutered so he never had puppies, the movie was great though :)
I feel sorry for Togo, he was the true hero. He went 200 miles in the harshest conditions, and he got absolutely no admiration at all until people found out the true story. Actually when they were putting up the statue of Balto Seppala asked them about Togo, but the press dismissed it.
I'm not blaming Balto, but if anyone should have had themselves a statue, it should have been Togo.
From what I read, Togo led the most miles actually twice what he was meant to. Balto led the last leg, the musher had lost his bearings and relied on Balto to find Nome. Movie is the best though, they made it into a friendlier if somewhat unrealistic story.
Balto is actually full husky, siberian husky, they made it part wolf for a catch in the movie, and to leave room for a few sequeals, and balto was marroon, and, there was no rosie
In real life, Balto was trustable and had a home and owner along with his own team of dogs. People liked him and didn't tease him like they did in the film.
@bigBoltfan1 Thats a lie. Balto started off as a street dog in real life, then when people found out he was a tame wolf dog, they decided to test out how fast he was, and because he was such a fast dog, they put him at the head of a sled team that brought back medicine in the 1900s.
@4everTailsFan11 Balto was not part wolf as depicted in the movies. He was actually full Siberian husky, bred by Norwegian musher Leonard Seppala. In the early 1900's mushers in Alaska began importing and breeding SH's because they were faster and more agile than their Alaskan Malamute cousins, which were bred more for strength so they could pull heavy loads for the Aleut Indians
Yeah. Seppala is a hero too, but he shouldn't have treated Balto like that. Balto did everything humans asked of him and did it GREAT. It wasn't his fault if people messed up the facts about what really happened. He and Togo both deserve credit, along with all the other dogs and mushers on the serum run.
there are people in life that deserve to live forever. Balto and his team deserved this. so does James Camran( director of Avatar,Titanic, Aliens, True Lies, Terminator, and T2) , Abraham Lincon, and other people that have done great things.
@MrSlywolf7 wtf are you going on about. inform yourself will ya? togo is the one who ran most miles, balto (A HUSKY BTW jeezes) only ran the way to the finish. balto was also slow and not a very adequit sleddog. even his musher said it. they named the movie "balto" because it sounded more commercial and he crossed the finish line. urg. typical balto fan
Awww this makes me miss my old dog. RIP Balto!
