What a memory. I remember my parents, my sister and I driving home from a vacation about 1964. We stopped at a small restaurant sat down and they were playing this song. I was 12 at the time and never thought it was too corny or romantic because I was a teenager. Today's teens are brainwashed into thinking that this kind of music is corny, ditto jazz, classical, practically anything of real merit. So here I am at 59 still grooving to the same song. I wonder if they'll have that same experience?
I can't belive that i found this song!!! I have been searching it for years! It's amazing song and how I know since now, Patti Page is very good singer!
There is nothing wrong with being young and loving old music...Heck I love Chopin and he died over 150 years ago. Music is ageless. Guess what? I love Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Aerosmith, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Johnny cash, Aretha Franklin, Maroon 5, Green Day, Garth Brooks, Fiona Apple, Beyonce , Lady Gaga and Usher just to name a few. If you like it and you think it's beautiful then it is beautiful. God bless the music makers.
So grateful to have been alive and young when vocalists like Patti Page, Gogi Grant, Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield , Nana Moushouri & such artists were topping the Music genfra. Even happier to have reached this period in my life where I can press a Utube button and listen to the Ladies & gentlemen who inspired my love for excellent attention to details vocalists, who carried the music with Grace & Class.
Ahhh... listened to this as a child, and 60 years later...still a classic and so glad to read the younger people enjoying. Humans age, and it is real... but somethings are eternal.
This song is a classic. I didn't know, before, that Patti Page sang it as well. I am honestly not sure which version I like better: Audrey Hepburn's or Patti Page's! :-)

@shshowarth Im also living with depression, its not easy, I also have been listening to this music hoping it will take me back to my youth when I did not have a care, today I really hit a low, even thinking about you know what,Im a good person It seems to me that being honest and careing does not work for me, people will take but have trouble giving, I can have days when I cry and I have to really work hard to get me going again, this takes a lot of doing and it drains my heart , lets talk.
@critchley3819 I know how you feel, when i was about 15 till 20 i felt worthless, i had no friends and i always thought god doesnt care about me i always felt alone and sad but than i thought maybe i think in the wronge direction i must start to exept my life like it is and make the best of it and now i feel better i know its very difficult to stand up again and if you dont make it alone you defenetly find people who help you up just dont give up god is wiht everyone if we ask him for help
@LieorDie24 I dont want god to help me, I have never met him, and he has not once ever been there when I needed him. so now I get more from making friends like you.
@critchley3819 Hmm but you should give him a chance in my life he was ther it was not long ago i had an accident during a climbing toure a 80 cm big rock fell down on my komrades and no one got hurt and the guy who held my rope didnt drop it i dont belive that it was just luck and i think God helps us if we want him in oure live if we always ignore him and not believe in him than sure hes not helping us because why should he if we dont care that hes alive
@LieorDie24 I do honestly respect what you want to believe in and that is how it should be, I only believe in good and I learnt this from my parents and from honest lovely people that I have meet that are real not from a book, take care my friend and strive for peece and happiness, dont worry to much about god, make it on your own and this will be much more rewarding
@critchley3819 How could i i cant just say i dont want to believe anymore why should i turn him my back when i believe in him hes a friend of mine and no one lieaves a friend
@LieorDie24 Point taken, yes it is lovely that you have this if it gives you peece and happiness then it is the truth.I would like to tell you a very strange story.First I need to tell you that Im not a nutcase or stupid. When I was twelve I saw a craft in the sky over the house I grew up in (Sydney)this was not from this planet and if it was they are keeping secrets, this has left me wondering all my life,Im nearlly 60 but it is still fresh in my memory. This event has left me confussed about life
@critchley3819 Oh i thought you wher in my age but back to what you saw in the sky it could have been a angel maybe whatever it was it didnt harm you so if it was a spiritual creature it wasnt a bad one
@LieorDie24 Mate you are so wrong, you need to get your head out of the bible and open your brain, what differance does the age make, an angel? that is the most stupid thing I have ever heard, what I saw was real, have you ever seen an angle or have you ever laid eyes on god, please do not reply to this as I have no tollerance for fools,I have been honest and staight with you and all you have done is waste my time, a fucking angel that is priceless, get a life.
@critchley3819 Are you off youre mind or whats wronge i never said i live the way the bible says me all i said is that i belive in God and Angels are real and i never said that i care about the age between people youre the one here who takes my time because you only think in one fucking direction now do whatever you want but dont think bad of people who have their way and i have a life maybe you must get one i have no depressions anymore so why should i have problems i belive thats all
@shshowarth the latest thing for depression is vit D. they say you need about 3000 to 4000 IU a day. Your multi only has 400 IU so you may need to supplement. Luckily every vitamin seller now has vit D in 1000, 2000 and even 5000 IU sizes
As someone who remembers this from the movie Breakfast at Tiffanie's I am so touched that there are so many younger folk who appreciate this classic music.
Lord. This was our song back in high school in 1959 or thereabouts. Used to stop and stay at a wonderful diner where we'd play this and eat hamburgers. Long before McDonald's or anything of the kind.
proper singing in a perfect style -where have they all gone - or rather why are there no young singers with magical voices / thanks for this great posting -david
Patti Page has given the world so much. Songs like this never go out of style. And you know why? Because time and effort and genuine talent was devoted to making songs that touch the heart and soul of people. She is one of the greats.
@EmoChimp1 ha im 29 and i still love this song i grew up with music from the 50s and im happy because it has its magic youre right and its really nice that people in youre age still hear such music and that you not only grow up with todays hip hop and rap music music of the 50s has a soul and it makes me dream
@EmoChimp1 Bless you! So many other people your age do not appreciate good music! I am so glad that YOU do! I believe that you are the exception to the rule! :-)
A very good morning to you from the UK! You may, of course, be a UK resident but making an 'educated guess', I suspect not, having noted your time of posting, 3.15 AM (UK time!) Pleased to hear you echo my thoughts on this rendition. Kindest regards to you and yours. GTP
i was born into the wrong era!!!! i am 20 but i feel like i should have been 20 back then!!!! actors and singers were big stars back then not the two minute wonders we have of today!!!!
Have just listened to this for the first time and have to say that this is one of the best renditions I have heard of my all time favourite, romantic song. Are.........memories!
@GTP1940 Likewise, I also just heard Patti sing it for the first time. I'm a major fan of Sinatra but I have to say his voice just doesn't do this song justice. Her voice is absolutely luscious.
Composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year's Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was originally sung in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's by Audrey Hepburn, although it has been covered by many other artists. The song also won the 1962 Grammy Award for Record of the Year. It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961 and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremonies in 1962.
I used to love this song. I decided someday I would live by the "Moon River". Things happened and I gave up my dream. An totally unexpected job transfer and thelast minute purchase of a house sight unseen, and here I am within walking distance to the Mississipi decades later. Now I have my "Moon River" and I can pretend to be Huckleberry Finn.
@chinkyirish thanks. The thing is that it just happened because I wanted it and I didn't have to do anything, life just happened. It's just beautiful and so powerful after winter ends (the main road here crosses a dam), it's amazing. May your dreams also come true.
Yes, it is on her album "Say Wonderful Things" released summer of 1963. The album plus the 1964 Columbia LP "Love After MIdnight" are available on a 2 on 1 CD from Collectibles CDL-CD-7958.
I've been listening to many Youtube versions of this song. Its clear to me that the top 3 singers of this song is Frank Sinatra, Pattie Page, and who ever it was that did the voice over for Audrey Hepburn. The only person alive on Earth today that can possibly give this song its due would be Susan Boyle. But this song is so blue and lonesome, she might cry. And the Audience would too.
@redfire20003 Thank you. Just now listen once. I will need to listen more than that becuase a good song and singer is like eating at a banquet, one must take time to sample everything and thouroughly enjoy every little nuance.
@MrPanetela Lily Allen, Johnette Napilotano, Nora Jones, and Hope Sandoval could all do this justice. Oh yeah, of course Annie Lennox would be great doing this.
What a memory. I remember my parents, my sister and I driving home from a vacation about 1964. We stopped at a small restaurant sat down and they were playing this song. I was 12 at the time and never thought it was too corny or romantic because I was a teenager.

@1caramarie how lucky you are!most can only dream, happiness all the way to you :)
chinkyirish 1 year ago
@chinkyirish thanks. The thing is that it just happened because I wanted it and I didn't have to do anything, life just happened. It's just beautiful and so powerful after winter ends (the main road here crosses a dam), it's amazing. May your dreams also come true.

@1caramarie it just shows that any dream will come true, in time. I just liked your comment. :)

Have You listened to Danny Williams, It is the definitive version of MR and leaves all others in the shade.
redfire20003 1 year ago
@redfire20003 Thank you. Just now listen once. I will need to listen more than that becuase a good song and singer is like eating at a banquet, one must take time to sample everything and thouroughly enjoy every little nuance.
MrPanetela 1 year ago
@MrPanetela Audrey did her own singing for Breakfast at Tiffany's. :)
detectmendacity 1 year ago
@MrPanetela Lily Allen, Johnette Napilotano, Nora Jones, and Hope Sandoval could all do this justice. Oh yeah, of course Annie Lennox would be great doing this.

"Moon River, wider than a mile:
I'm crossin' you in style someday.
Old dream maker, you heartbreaker,
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin'your way.
Two drifters, off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end,
Waitin' round the bend,
My huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me."
